This is the one I'm talking about...and for you and Sylvia, the forward helm might be the "comfort zone" solution while she sails and you "rest." I prefer the dual aft helms w/o the forward helm....all carbon, all electric (no diesel). Nice.

Hey Jim. Thanks for watching. Have a look at the full length Future Yacht episode. She is BEAUTIFUL! Yes, I would do the forward helm but option in the aft tiller seats. Best of both worlds!! What are your thoughts on the Outremer 52?

@jimbeglinger Windelo has a very interesting take on a forward helm, is purely electric and solar. (With a backup Diesel generator option, so serial hybrid.) Its front helm supports a social connection with the salon and galley. (Think couple's watchkeeping.) Uses basalt fibers as greener than carbon. HH does not have a pure electric, but uses a parallel hybrid. Depending on conditions and sailing efficiency, a Diesel may or may not be needed. A Windelo did two Atlantic crossings without ever using the Diesel. Gone with the Wynn's HH needed to use the Diesel from China to the Philippines.

@@navalgazingatcampdavid Front helm has a ton of advantages including much better vision to front and the shortest lines and most convenient controls. Tiller has nice feel for actually hand steering. Would work best on a performance (big) boat for lighter, better balanced forces. Most cruising is done with autopilot. The HH52 front helm is sort of a variation on Chris White. Windelo's front helm arrangement is unique so far. HH's is more traditional and perhaps a bit more seaworthy. Outremers are interesting too. As with anything, there are pros and cons of each.
