I take the "smaller" GS out on the roads to get a feel for it, and I end up liking it a lot!
This 2024 BMW F800 GS could sneak onto the long list for my next bike....
Sorry for the blurry first few seconds in low light down below ground level in the BMW service centre... it does get better!

I'm thinking of buying it, with a higher windshield. Thanks for your impressions.

Nice review, I have three GS models and one is the 750, this is my second one. Like someone said fitting the 850 adjustable screen works well. It takes the luggage from my 1250 and I have toured Spain and all over the UK two up and it worked really well. My original was a 2019 bike and to be honest it only rode well in dynamic mode but my latest 2022 model works well in all modes. My brakes were pretty soft but sharpened up a great deal after first year service which includes replacing the brake fluid. I have heard reviews saying it doesn’t have enough power but on paper at least according to the BMW website it is only about 0.6 seconds slower to 60 than the 1250 so the 800 has maybe cut that gap even more. I did think about upgrading to the 800 but it is exactly the same just slightly larger engine and few different colours. I have an air cooled 1200 and a 1250 but prefer taking out the 750 it’s lighter and at road speeds I don’t notice any difference in the performance I need.

Interesting that the 2022 model works well in all modes. I had the same feeling after the 20K service and a software update - that the road mode seemed significantly better than earlier- not sure I notice any difference in the dynamic mode- unable to comment for the enduro modes as I hardly ever use them. Mine is a 2021 model.

@@lowlandsrider could have been my bike it was a 2019 the rain and road mode were terrible. It was ok was going along but moving off from junctions it would feel like it was about to stall then suddenly pick up not good moving right or left from traffic lights with a pillion. I expected more of the same on the 22 model considering it was a euro 5 but totally different.
@lowlandsrider
@lowlandsrider 2 месяца назад
@@SouthWest-jj8yu Thanks . Could be that the Euro 5 did make the difference. What i noticed was that in the Road mode, at lower RPMs the tendency was to be bit jerkey at lower speeds in higher gears (3000 rpm approx) but this is much better now- so effectively I can ride one gear higher for most parts at lower speeds

Would be interesting if you could compare the F750GS with the new F800GS

Nice review. This bike is on my short list. I have had an XRV 750 since 1999, and it's time to change. And this bike seems to be a perfect fit. Will try to ride it before buy it.

I have an F800R and the rear brake is useless. Another very big factor are the tires. I love my bike. It's very good quality, you don't need to upgrade the suspension. It will pull hard and it's extremely reliable. I had my seats redone because they are too slim and it's far far better if you put some gel inserts in it.
@RikkyTang
@RikkyTang 3 месяца назад
Well, I thought the rear brake was just a one off... somewhat less chance of it being a two-off! But the bike still has a lot going for it I think, cheers for your comment 👍

Thanks for the review. I'm looking for a replacement for my aging F800ST. Considered the F750GS last year but minimal wind protection (I dont want to be spending another £400 on the 850 screen). The F800GS looks the same, screen wise and I dont get BMWs thinking with these tiny screens. Also, I'm not too keen on the look of these smaller GSs. Seems sports tourers have disappeared and been replaced by adventure bikes but I need a seat height of around 780/790mm. Tiger 900 GT Low looks much better...

Nice review & bike...still happy with the VFR? ; ) Just kidding, very different bikes for very different purposes. I love a good bike restoration vid so looking forward to seeing how it comes along. As for this one, seems like a really decent all-round package.

The vFR is sold... only joking! But yes I do like this one! The VFR will get some time in the spotlight soon :)

How was it quick-shifter, smooth, or notchy?? (The previous 750s was horrible IMO)

Yes having had a test ride on f800gs I agree the rear brake is terrible. Which is a pretty because it is good bike .

seat same as the 750gs ? same as 750 with 10 hp more so upgrading gives me color tft and one more mode. i read its 227kg vs 222kg on the 750gs . I prefer 200kg myself as on my 500x

That power curve shows how much BMW marketing is manipulating the "800's" ECU, there must be an aftermarket cure for this. Otherwise, the 800 looks like very good value if you refrain from the "add-value" traps - only extra I would add is a center-stand (which used to be standard on any road bike).
@merrilywillis377
@merrilywillis377 Месяц назад
Interesting that the ones coming into Australia have a centre stand as standard? And this bike has a lot of extras included as well. (F800GS sport is fab)

I often heard the 1300 GS is much easier to handle than a 800/900 GS, which really makes me wonder. I'm currently getting my license and looking for a nice bike. What would you recommend? 900 XR, 800 GS or 1300 GS?
@ed.t.hansen6499

not the stdd brembo brakes ? same as 750gs ?

Thanks for the review. I have an F750GS, the suspension mode in that one by default is set to the driving mode i.e if it is Dynamic - the suspension mode turns to dynamic as well. This can be overridden, to set to road mode and the bike retains the setting. So the next time you start it, the drive mode might be dynamic but the suspension is still in the road mode. I am guessing this is the same in the new F800GS. Likewise of course in the Road drive mode, the suspension can be set to Dynamic. I use the BMW original adjustable windscreen bracket from the F850GSA (now the F900GSA)- this used to be fitted on the Rally models of the F850GSA as well. On this you can mount the higher (310 mm) and the touring (390 mm) windscreen. Cheers

Thank you for your comments! Yes I hope a screen can be found that will do the trick... I never have much luck with screens and so I'll bear this in mind ☺

Great review. I’m about to buy an adventure bike but I can’t decide which one… I’m looking for the F800gs but you said that taller persons(I am 185cm tall) maybe is better to buy the F900gs. I am between 3 motorbikes: the F800gs, the Tiger 900gt pro and the CF moto 800mt explore.
@lowlandsrider
@lowlandsrider 2 месяца назад
Perhaps the F900GSA instead of the F900GS? ... it depends a bit on the inseam but I think that might not be an issue for you.

Trust me , with the normal set up this bike is plenty big enough and also it is far from basic and it’s pretty quick . I’m 6ft 2 inches and the height is perfect with the normal set up.

Try both the 800GS and the 900GS. I found that the 800 is a much nicer bike on the road, better trough the turns. So I'm not going to pay a lot extra for the very rare occasion that I get to ride off road. But there's only one way to find out what suits you the best. Have fun trying them out!

Good review Rikky but I will say Derek Solo Moto UK just got rid off his because the sump plate I think it was sprung a leak which apparently they all do at around 10,000 mls I believe it was and he just got fed up with it's issues so maybe check him out before you take the plunge he's now gone back to Kawasaki .👌👍

Dont get me started on this now :) .... around 10k - water pump gone - and I dont even ride in conditions which would strain the water pump. Have heard the same issue from some others. 20K ... in the garage of all places... during the service, I was informed that the TFT is gone. Funnily enough I did see it .. the script was all mirrored and the text was red.. I thought it was something to do with the service process till the service agent informed me that it was a gonner. Luckily enough still covered under warranty. Somehow it leaves a bad taste. In August my warranty runs out and then I guess I will need to look at all the zeros on the service repair bills
