95% of owners would do better with the 340i over the M3. Better ride for a daily driver and plenty fast. Unless you are a real hard charger, the 340 is a better choice for a daily than the M3.

The problem is that most people could probably be better served by a mid or large size SUV when it comes to daily driving than a M340i. I think that’s why sales of the 3 Series have declined over the past 10 years.

I daily my G80 actually had it since Christmas eve last year. had a 2021 540i previously that on my commute was getting around 29-30mpg. my G80 "on my commute" gets around 25mpg. factor in going to other drives, I'm around 23mpg for the G80 which is not bad at all consider that the 2014 F10 535i I had avg about the same mpg. I also don't find the ride to be that harsh tbh. also even with the MP front lip, it actually has higher clearance than my 540i with the MP style lip.

Just bought one of these in the UK as touring to replace my previous generation 330D estate, absolutely loving it. After 2k miles seen 37mpg+ on longer journeys though typically mid-20s in the city. Only thing I'd love to change is lack of physical heater controls, not offering green as a colour option (bar exclusive colour at £3k+ and big wait) and if Apple CarPlay didn't need the whole screen and put Waze directions on the instrument panel. And if lottery numbers came up would be in the queue for an Alpina B3 Touring, enjoy these cars while we can

I have iDrive 8 in my BMW i4. It's mostly fine, but the thing I miss the most are physical radio preset buttons. I have them on my 2018 Audi S4 and it makes flipping between channels a breeze. The voice commands in the BMW work pretty okay, but way too laggy for satellite radio channel flipping. I don't mind the climate controls so much in iDrive 8 since I usually just set the fans in Auto. Moving the temperature on the screen works reasonably well, though still a far cry from the rotating temperature knobs on the Audi. Despite those quibbles, I might well buy an M340i xDrive when the S4 hits its use-by date.

You dont really feel the acceleration, even though its rather quick and nimble. G80 M3 is not a huge compromise in terms of comfort, of course... bit more harsh and worse fuel economy... still great though. If you can afford M3 or M4 get one, its very capable in being DD compared to F series. I guess it is cost saving. But if 10-20% of buyers opt out because of the dash-design and lack of buttons then they are not saving anything? Also the gauge cluster should have a separate housing to separate certain functions from Media. And it looks more sporty.

Still trying to wrap my head around how this is $9K more than the M240i (when you add 19s and adaptive suspension for an apples to apples). You get 2 more doors, some more legroom, a mild hybrid, and a couple more luxury options. That should be $4K max. Seems like the coupe is a much better deal if you can get away with it, and the sedan market is just higher priced.
@bmwblog

@ricochet48
@ricochet48 2 месяца назад
@@bmwblog Technically yes, but they are on the same platform with the same drivetrain. As noted the differences are minimal and don't seem to add up to $9K as noted. The extra space would be nice, but not $9K nice (and the M240i is slightly lighter and will handle a bit better).

Wonderful package. Great engine, and sadly there is no more development on new ice motors, so this is as good as it gets, and it is!. My only comment is “no manual transmission”, so that makes my only choice the M3 base, if I want a 4 door sedan with a manual transmission. If they can put the manual on the Z4, they could do it on this as well. We’ll see.

@@bmwblog I just prefer the old days when all BMW's had great steering. I must be getting old, but the other brands do a much better job at making steering more direct and natural. A base Macan with a 4 cylinder comes to mind. The X3M40 to me has a much more natural and direct feeling rack, then the current M340.

There is no doubt that the M340i is a fantastic car, but people who looking at them should cross shop with the Giula 2.0 AND a 1-2 year old Giulia Quadrifoglio. Both have a much better steering rack and chassis tuning. The 2.0 will provide more efficiency and in my opinion, more fun around town. It's not until you get to winding country roads that the M340i's more powerful B58 might be enough of an advantage to edge out the Giulia 2.0's better handling and driving feel. And even then, it's tough to use the 382hp in the M340i to fullest extent without losing your license. If you want more performance, but don't want to spend M3 money and still want comfort for longer drives, the Giulia Quadrifoglio will check those boxes and then some. A 2 year old car with 2 years of warranty left will be about the same price or even cheaper than a fully loaded M340i. The Quadrifoglio competes with the M3, and even though it was released in 2017, it's still rated higher than the newer G80 in most serious reviews. But the amazing thing about the Quadrifoglio is in its Advanced or Natural settings, it rides softer than an M340i with M-Sport suspension, and will even be a bit softer than an M340i with Adaptive Suspension set to soft. But throw the QV in race mode, and it's more engaging than an M3. Subjectively, either version of the Giulia looks much better than the M340i, and both are far more unique. You will get questions about your car every time you park or get gas. You will look back at it every time you park. They are just fantastic cars.

Allow me to dispel the hype around the M light models somewhat. I had a 2022 G26 M440 GC XDrive and feel I can compare somewhat as I just received my G80 order. For one, the G80 steering feel is far superior. It isn't even close. Second, the manual option I opted for in my G80 makes it far more engaging/rewarding to drive quickly. So, while the B58 is unreal in its power and delivery, there is a very palpable and real distinction from the true M cars... especially if you know how to drive and like getting after it on some quieter roads.

I would have a few objections: 1) Did you notice how rough and miserable leather there is on the seats? 2) the screen in front of the driver is awful, the graphics of the dials even worse as it does not remind anything used in cars. BMW promised to correct it, unfortunately never did. 3) The faff with climate control was mentioned in the video. Not only is it uncomfortable, it's DANGEROUS, which isn't off a brand like BMW who build up their reputation on safety 4) 10 quick physical shortcuts buttons (those above former climate control) are gone as well 5) the seats are stiff, most of the stiffness can probably be attributed to the miserable and rough leather which doesn't remind anything used in 5er models or higher 6) iDrive buttons' feedback is gone due to those micro touch buttons used instead of real buttons in the previous models 7) door bins aren't lined with felt, so anything you put in there rattles about. Horrible. A problem being present at least in 5er and 6er series too. Embarrassing for such a premium brand and for the price tag. Humble VW Golf has got it! 👎 8) mild hybrid is too complicated and it's another thing which may break down. Added (alleged) efficiency isn't worth it I would recommend everyone buy a used pre-facelift model which covers most of the criticism above.
