I am 76 and I bought the 2RS in August of last year. I took it on its first trip and averaged 34MPG going at 75!!! Just part of the time. No complaints so so far. Went about 400 miles on half a tank
If it helps anyone out there; I’m a Chevrolet master tech and I bought one of these. The engine/transmission combo is pretty damn solid and especially at the price point.
Typically this is not a vehicle that would ever consider, but when I saw it I fell in love with the styling. In my old age I have become thriftier and the price would help me to overlook many flaws. When I was young I would buy the most expensive vehicle that I could afford. Now that I’m nearly 70 and don’t drive long distances anymore I look for value for the money. Good luck with this vehicle, Chevrolet!
And that’s completely the wrong way to look at things , just cause it’s affordable doesn’t mean it’s not low quality lol You’re about to died soon enough at least have some class 😂
As someone who's put 18,000 miles on 2024 Trax 2RS like this one in the last 7 months, it's surprisingly comfortable and comes across way nicer than the rather basic transportation it could've been. The main thing I don't like is the lack of armrest/cupholders in the rear seat. I'm not someone who likes to drive slow, but it's perfectly adequate if you're not trying to floor the pedal. There's been a couple tech glitches, and they seem common, but nothing that has kept it from getting me where I'm going.
@@sgregorybird that’s what jd power awards on is initial quality but consumer reports on longevity and look what happen 😂 just get ready to trade for a Mazda lol
@@cormaro13 consumer reports has honestly been an unreliable source for years now. I'm going to go with the fact that I've put almost two years worth of miles on the car in less than 8 months, even though it's not my only car... and I have had no reliability issues so far. Reliability to me is the ability to get me places, and it's done that consistently. I haven't had any issues other than a replacement radio that took maybe two hours to install. And that doesn't affect the ability to be driven, I just had to plug my phone in for a few weeks. Being a first year model, there's gonna be some lemons. But generally speaking, take care of your car and it'll take care of you.
I just bought a Trax LT in cayenne orange, and it's great for commuting around town. And lets call it what it is. It's a station wagon. And there's not a thing wrong with that.
To be honest, if I hadn't just bought a base model Rogue, which I've been happy with (32.8mpg average over 10K miles in mixed driving), I would probably grab this in Activ trim! I like the size, the price, and the big screens. The lack of padding is a concern, but I bet there's aftermarket stuff online you can install to fix that for a few bucks.
Thank you for reviewing the Trax. I really wanted to buy one earlier this year, but they were almost impossible to find at dealerships. When I finally found and test drove one, I would have bought it if the dealership didn’t try to overcharge me with the notorious “additional dealer markup adjustment” price above the MSRP and other needless dealer markups. Sadly, I had to pass.
I will never buy from a dealer again because of all the things you mentioned and destination fees and sales tax the list of additional costs seems to go on and on. Facebook Marketplace from a private seller is where I will be when I need to purchase my next ride.
I test drove a Trax Activ today. There's nothing about this little crossover that felt like I was stepping down, it felt extremely competent at everyday driving. I was skeptical about the little three cylinder engine, but it's more than enough for daily driving. I was pleasantly surprised and might consider buying one this year.
I bought a pre-owned 2019 Trax with the smoker package(whatever that is), for $21k only because the new ones were still " in transit ". But my previous Chevy needed a grave. This Trax is killer, no cap. But mine is FWD, 1.4L turbo charged, and it had the perfect amount of breaking in at 26,610 miles. It's a great little vehicle
Nooo those are so much worse. Very problematic powertrain in the previous trax. It’s basically a first gen Cruze engine from like 2008 with no updates to fix all the issues they had. The new trax is much more reliable.
I have a 2024 1RS AND a2025 2RS coming in a month his And hers trax hers is white and mine is black have Had the 1rs for a year with no problems fun todrive😊
Way better looks with this model. I'm not a fan of 3 cylinder engines because of the lack of high rev power. You should certainly be getting better gas mileage in a 3cyl than what you can get in a 4 cyl (not the case here). This model does have some nice features and options for the price tho. Micah and family are quite as amazing as usual. Keep up the good work guys. 😎👍
The 1.2 is unfortunately less power AND less efficiency than the 1.3, but it is cheaper. CVTs also tend to be more economic than 6-speeds, but the 6-speed can probably go 100K miles on the original fluid, can't do that with a CVT. Car and Driver on their 75mph test registered 30mpg which is not bad. For comparison, on the Honda HRV they only got 25mpg!
Love my 1 RS sunroof, blindside mirror& heated seats & steering wheel everything but power seats good mileage, great price excellent overall car . Hit 12k miles 2 oil changes n no problems. Luv it
@@caseyhunt5735 nah just know what quality looks like lol , I own 2 Mazdas for over 5 years since I left Chevy and had nothing but enjoyment out of my cars instead of needing out of warranty work on cheap parts and trying to sum it up as regular maintenance like a ac evap core lol
@@cormaro13that’s funny cause my hubby has always been a Chevy guy and I always a Mazda girl. None of our vehicles have ever had issues and we keep them for years And years! Always way past warranty. Zero issues with any
I have had the TRAX LS for about 5 months now, I slapped a carbon fiber vinyl on the logos and the LS is fully loaded. It’s such an amazing commuter car, it’s good in snow and it’s spacious. For the price, it’s phenomenal and underrated to the max
I enjoyed your review! I'm considering one of these to cut living expenses and it just looks like a nice, stylish, practical, daily driver than still offers what I have in my more expensive vehicle which were options, but at thousands less. I can manage without the all-wheel drive, did so for many years; and we still have our Jeep for those days when the snow get deep.
I think this is probably Chevy's best product in years. My wish list is one and one alone: they need a hybrid. Something like the 1200 hybrid upgrade on the Sportage that gets you a useful amount of power and better mileage around town. Great product that seems to be selling well.
7:00 Yeah, the RS wheels are not only too low profile, but they are much too wide for that horsepower too IMO. The Activ is the trim to go with, and I bet you could to a trade plus a little cash for someone with an LT, that gives you even more sidewall with 17" wheels.
Wish Micah would stop talking for a little while, especially when Evie's giving her thoughts. When he does he's, like, interrogating her. And wish he would have solicited Evie's overall thoughts about the vehicle at the end.
Great review guys! I test drove the new trax last summer it’s definitely a HUGE improvement over the old one and the best bang for your buck! That said, it isn’t a bad car it’s just that for me wasn’t really feeling it reminds me too much of a hatchback so stepped up to the trailblazer
Haha! What a great way to show cars! Love the family vibe to it :-) Happy New Year to you and the family. We will be following your « so funny » car reviews 😂! Great job! Adding a « women » point of view…the also drive! Great job sir!
Good for GM! Hope it is a huge hit. Chevy, please put an electric motor in the rear for AWD. My neighbor has a Nitro Yellow, which looks great! Happy New Year to the Muzio family.
Big potential eyeglass market for "cat loving video editors", I'm sure! Love the car. Loved the video. Great job all! You guys are wonderful to watch, and this video highlights all the reasons why that's true!
Good review. Like the 1 RS & 2 RS. Why does the 2 RS need 19" tires?? Ride quality is suffering?? 17" or 18" would be awesome 😮😮😮 My only concern is the Trax height is about 4 inches lower than the Trailblazer. I found it hader to enter & exit, for thus old guy. They need softer armrests & door armrests.
At this price point, walk to the other side of the showroom and check out the Bolt. With the lower costs of fuel and servicing, you could even upgrade to a higher trim level.
I wonder on lower-priced vehicles what the delta is between the cost to produce what they decide to produce versus the cost to produce the same vehicle that has the few features they leave out that everyone wants, such as padded armrests, a rear armrest with cup holders and rear vents and charge ports. Is it more than $500? Seems unlikely. I think everyone would pony up the extra $500. 🤷🏻♂️
I think they just have to spend money at one point and some clever people analysing the market are telling them what people are not looking for when ordering. Personally the hard armrests are a no go, I wouldn’t care for a rear armrest though. I don’t think some padding would cost that much, they could’ve left the active noise cancellation out instead.
I've been test driving cars in this category. So far I've tried Mazda cx-50, VW Taos and Subaru Outback. Honestly, if you're just looking at base trims I'm not sure any of them unseat a Trax or are worth the premium. The Trax is kind of an insane value and is making me second guess a larger purchase. Don't get me wrong, I do like Mazda- for instance- but without the turbo it's kind of meh. Yes the interior is more premium even in base trim but overall impressions...I"m not sure I really care. Worth trying this car if you're looking.
I was looking into a trax and curreently have a 2008 Honda CRV (I remember seeing that your family also has/had a 08 CRV) how would you say the seated driving position compaires?
This would’ve been the perfect car for me but since I live in Michigan with ridiculous snow at times, I needed an affordable AWD car so I drive a Ford Ecosport and I love it. I your family’s channel btw 👏🏾
@@carlson2012abqb keep the price low, the Chevy Trax and Buick Envista top out around 32, to get AWD you have to go up to the Trailblazer/ Encore GX which top around 37-40. I work at a Buick GMC dealer so.
GM has done an amazing job with the redesign of the Trax, but they never seem to be able to make a reliable car. Been burned too many times by The General to risk buying one again.
great information and a couple of chuckles. Just dont know about camping with a dog and equipment going up the Sierras...love the price....since I am old Chevy used to mean value.....back in the day....

Happy new year to you and your family my friend, here is a cool video from my neighborhood you might like 😊
i have trax rs in korea. in south korea trax offer you a lot more options. autohold, cooling seat, armrest and cupholder for backseat, air duct for backseat and also automatic trunk. in south korea trax is more worth vehicle to get. except korean edition of trax is more expensive😂 its around 32,000 korean won doller
If it got a bit better fuel economy I might be onboard with the incredibly small engine. Looks like it gets decent city fuel economy but combined i think it’s quite similar to the larger Equinox 2.4 from like 15 years ago.
It's a 3 cylinder aluminum engine with cast iron sleeves to reinforce. It's a turbo. Learn the proper ways to drive a turbo (warmup, cooldown). Change the oil early and often. Oil is cheap, engines are expensive. Internal wet rubber timing belt. Inspect/replace at 40k miles, NOT 150k as it says in the manual. If timing gets out of normal, pistons can collide with valves (this is an 'interference' engine). And do your research on this vehicle. NHTSA site.
I'm sure they have the market research that says otherwise, but I feel like this would be a lot more compelling if they offered AWD. They might have to bring back the 1.4 for that, though, because of the extra weight, etc.
Nah, being FWD only not only reduces the costs but it allows the chassis to be completely flat without needing a big transmission tunnel. The Buick should have gotten the 1.3 IMO, or the higher RS/Activ trims, I would have paid the difference.
@BoopSnoot I agree that the 1.4 (or better) should be offered in the Buick. Everything I've seen suggests the 1.2 isn't refined enough for a premium brand. I understand the benefits of FWD packaging. I'm not suggesting the Trax should be AWD only, but I know people who might consider this little crossover, but rule it out the minute they see it's FWD only. Maybe in the future, they'll offer a hybrid or plug in hybrid that puts some electric motors on the back wheels and allows it a small EV range.
Very few people actually need AWD To me it's a deal breaker. I don't want the reduced gas mileage and increased maintenance costs of AWD. And yes it snows where I live.
@@s99614 it’s not that hard to refill and drain a diff buddy 😂 the gear oil is only $10 , get your mechanic skills up , I love my awd on my cx30 Mazda and still avg 26 plus great in ice and rain
People of lower incomes would hopefully be thankful for a new car that doesn’t push them to the edge poverty. New car warranties are a such a blessing. That said… Automakers need to stop with the shiny plastic for the shine and glare. I’ve lived in Florida and been nearly blinded in certain season and times of day. AND everybody has elbows, why not add padding, automakers?
The body styling is great, the interior is nice, and it’s a great price point. But … a turbo three cylinder 😜 the underpowered engine, with additional turbo stress, isn’t a formula for engine longevity. 💥 I would pay extra for a V6 if it was available. The price of lower gas mileage vs. engine work is a no brainer.
Well and interesting video. I love the Chevy Looks but my base model Kia Sportage EX has way more technology and features that are more suited to be called an SUV. More power and 8 spd tranny.
@RRLV434 for the money, you can overlook them. You can't with the rest of the Chevy lineup. Equinox, blazer, all the rest cost more than they should for the quality on offer.
@@MaGiKRat420 well if you find a new Tacoma for MSRP reply to this message, I may actually be interested. Because an SR5 is the price of a TRD Off-Road with markups
This logic always cracks me up. Less cylinders is Always worse? Might as well get v12s then, those must be the most reliable then, yeah? Less moving parts is literally less complicated and less to break. Turbos are also fine as long as the proper upgrades are made. Diesels pretty much ALL run turbos and some go a million miles.
Chevy, please bring back the 2019 Cruze. The Cruze has better power to weight ratio making it more fuel efficient with tbe 1.4l turbo engine. The interior materials on the Cruze are of better quality. The 2019 Chevy Cruze Premier is a better vehicle in my opinion.
I dont understand why people sucking balls to the Japaneses cars i went to toyota dealership in KC it was basically really shitty experience! They try to overcharged for a corolla crossroad that honestly it looks everything was made it in china i got very disappointed so i went to mitsubishi to get an outlander we couldn't even drive not even one!! New cars and they didn't even started so we went to chevy with a low expectation and my wife loves this car from the beginning when we test driving, we bought it and since it's been really cool car!! Drove from kc to chicago really conformable not problems at all so far we got the trax RS2 blue fountain beautiful color by that way.
That engine is so tiny it's barely even there. Apart from that, kudos to GM designers on a job well done. They should sell more of these than they can make 🤣
Thinking that the Buick Envista is more stylish and a touch more upscale than the Trax. The lack of door armrest padding and a rear center armrest is criminally cheap, at any price. The Envista has an independent rear suspension on certain trims. And WHY wont GM give Americans the option of the Trax's turbo 1.5L 4 cylinder motor that's offered in China 🇨🇳 Annoying decision, especially when you live in a mountainous ⛰️ area of the US... a 1.2L turbo 3 banger isn't enough power for a Trax with 4 adults in it. 😮
