Right I was able to get a 2024 Kia Niro EV Wind for about 36k and the MSRP is 39 nearly 40k. that’s a “base” model as well and I feel like you get way more. Companies are really incentivizing their own EVs and have great lease deals and include 7,500 off up front if it doesn’t quality for the tax credit
@anydaynow01

But if it were direct sales (Tesla overcharging by thousands) they would just "market adjust" from the factory as long as there is a wait list / preorder queue. We get screwed with new releases either way!

That's why you preorder the 1LT. Don't just go with whats on the lot because most if not all will be mid-trim models and the dealer will be focused on moving those models.

I drove a Bolt EV for three years, so 150 kW does not sound slow to me. :-) You asked if we would consider it. Yes, I would, if I were in the market. EPA says 3.8 mi/kWh. But my Bolt's lifetime was 4.5 mi/kWh, so I suspect the Equinox is probably going to travel farther than EPA says.

The thing I like most about the Equinox EV is that it doesn't feel like a difficult vehicle to transition into. Teslas may be astounding cars, BUT they ask the driver to adjust to a wide variety of secondary controls. Some of that is annoying, like using buttons on the steering wheel in lieu of a turn signal stalk, others are downright disturbing. Using the screen to adjust climate control stuff strikes me as dangerous. How do you turn on the windshield wipers in a Model Y? Tesla may be the worst offender on this front, but many other new EVs also tend to over-depend on the screen. The Equinox looks like its secondary controls are not that similar than the ICE cars I've driven for over 40 years. That's worth a heck of a lot in my book.
@alexanderrosario6231

@darwinskeeper421
@darwinskeeper421 Месяц назад
@@alexanderrosario6231 I haven't driven a Tesla, but I don't trust them. They put too many things on the touch screen. At best, putting climate controls on a screen is poor ergonomics, at worst... . And please don't get me started on their decision to eliminate the turn stalks and use buttons on the steering wheel to control the turn signals. Can you even turn on the windshield wipers without using the touch screen? I understand that minimizing mechanical parts saves money BUT I don't want to have to poke around the touch screen menus when I'm on the freeway and it starts raining. I don't care how great Teslas are supposed to be, I'm not driving one until they give the climate control system proper buttons and knobs.
@rightwingsafetysquad9872
@rightwingsafetysquad9872 Месяц назад
@darwinskeeper421 I'm not sure why everyone focuses on turn signals being buttons instead of a stock. It's a non-issue. Especially compared to everything else they've eliminated knobs and buttons for. And it's not just Tesla, the Chevy Colorado has the lights and windshield wipers in the touchscreen.
@rightwingsafetysquad9872
@rightwingsafetysquad9872 Месяц назад
@@darwinskeeper421 I don't see how turn signals being a button instead of a stock switch is a safety concern.
@darwinskeeper421
@darwinskeeper421 Месяц назад
@@rightwingsafetysquad9872 You could argue that using turn signals isn't important because so many people don't use them anyways. You could also argue that it shouldn't be that hard to train yourself to use buttons on the steering wheel instead of a lever on the gearshift column. I just don't see the point of why I should have to relearn how to use turn signals. Switching to an EV is going to involve relearning a lot of things, particularly if I use it for road tripping. I'm willing to accept that because of the advantages of switching to electric powertrains. I just can't think of a good reason why I should have to relearn how to use buttons for turn signals or be forced to use a touch screen for climate control and windshield wipers. Thus, I'd probably prefer something like the Equinox EV which has normal controls over something like the Tesla which is forcing me to change 40 years of driving habits.

We presently own a 2023 Bolt EUV premier. We ordered all the options except supercruise. Adaptive cruise control, sunroof, ventilated seats, dual function rear view mirror. all the camera angles the Equinox has. Out the door price was 37K and with the tax incentive, just below 30K. We use it as our commuter and it's a great car. Exactly, add into that that LED headlights do not get warm and melt snow off themselves like traditional headlights do, which were essentially self-clearing of fog ice and snow, and the high electricity levels needed to Dice and for an effective, strong heater to de-ice and defrost the windows and warm the cabin in midwestern winters and the slow recharge rate in battery performance in colder temperatures and people should understand that electric vehicles may be great for the Southern tier but the Midwest and North will always need some kind of fuel burning something in the engine to create enough power and heat and warm coolant to keep a car warm and safe in our environment.

@@Jack_Stafford Not all battery chemistries are slower to charge in cold temps and many EVs have heat pumps to precondition the battery which also reduces slower charging speeds. The reason there was a big problem with charging cars in extreme cold temp last winter had more to do with poor training programs for dealerships, sales staff, and customers; in addition to the "I don't need to read the manual" attitude of many car buyers.

I literally priced one at Chevy's site for 51.5k not counting another 1500 for transit fee. This is insane for a couple more inches of room and he just glossed over it.

Was waiting for the Equinox EV to be available but Tesla had such great deals in Q1 that decided to get a Model Y long Range AWD for $37,000 (net federal incentive) which is about 2000 more than this version shown

This was the car I wanted when I bought the Bolt EUV but it wasn't available. I have since sold the Bolt and gotten a 23 VW ID.4 Pro S AWD. After watching this video I'm happy with the VW which has slightly less range than the AWD Equinox EV. The most important spec for me is the DC Fast Charge rate which for the VW is 170kw compared to the Equinox's 150kw. Ground clearance of the VW is 6.8 inches. I do miss the 360 degree view of the Bolt and the Equinox. The VW which sold for $55,000+ new I got with 961 miles on it for $29,395. At that price point nothing competes with the VW. It just doesn't make sense to buy a new car when there are so many great used deals around.

A 20kw difference in charging speed is not important. What is important is how long the battery can hold peak charging rates.

Please tell me there is a regen paddle on the back of the steering wheel like the Bolt ! Also, would like to see more on the door handle operation. How do you open the door if/when you dont have your key fob in proximity ? Looks like there are motors that actuate the handles on all four doors. A bit complicated and expensive if a motor malfunctions, sticks ( in ice /snow). Are the side mirrors motorized to swing in if needed ? Are ALL lights LED's ? How about fully automatic up/down windows ? and one last thing.....Android Auto ? or FULL seamless integration with ALL "smartphones" via wi-fi and or Bluetooth ? Other than that, it looks like a winner.

Every Dealership will only have 1-3 of the $35k version. GM won't make many of them. The dealers will add $2k-$5k to it. That trim is just there for the PR of having a sub $35k EV.

This seems to be the largest cuv for the price of around $35K. This is just one inch less, in both length and width compared to the Blazer. The width of this car at 77 inches would be a challenge to parking in my garage. I hope this has a remote parking option.

Agree both the headlights and door handles will not work up where it snows frequently. I think the more conventional interior looks is a good move to get more people to consider EV's but I have to say the plastic on this one looks very cheap and agree with some of the comments this will look pretty used up in three years. Add to it limited charging and insurance companies afraid of EV's damaged in accidents where their 55 dollar per hour technician cost is not compatible with the skillsets needed to IE replace a damaged battery I don't see wide acceptance just yet.

Quite frankly, the MSRP of the entry model of the Equinox EV is higher than the Model 3 RWD (at least in Canada). Now I'm not saying that the M3 is better, just cheaper, which seems to be against the idea in the title. And then, let's see what the dealer markup will be on them (GM is already calling it a limited production vehicle before being on sale). Other than that, nice video and a good idea what this car could be like when is out.

The low end version is ok but the high end car is the same price as the Blazer RS and with payments similar to the Lyriq AWD. Which gets 20% more range 20% larger battery 30% faster charging and a 33-39% longer warranty. Payment interest in Canada is 0.99% to 3.99% for the Lyriq vs 4.99% to 5.99% for the Equinox and Blazer.

Others have pointed out some of the car's less than optimal design so I'll only add that the windows are so small that the interior feels like you're sitting in some WWII bunker with slits to look out through. I'll be glad when they can get mileage up enough that they don't have to have such streamlining and can make go for more boxy shapes that fit people better. My biggest pet peeve, and this is with 99% of the vehicles I've been in, is that designers seem to see if they can outdo each other in making doors and center consoles that dig into the sides of my knees/legs and make extended trips torture. Designers, put your soft padding in those spots, please. Front end styling is very much like a lot of other CUVs.
