Jeff discusses the stator and flywheel on the 2024 KTM 300 XC-W TBI and the 2023/2024 KTM 300 XC TBI.
This also applies to the 2024 KTM 250 XC-W TBI and 2023/2024 KTM 250 XC TBI as well as all the 2023/2024 Husqvarna equivalents and 2024 GasGas equivalents.

Jeff, you are a good man. You have worked hard all your life modifying KTM's and doing dirty porting work (yes I remember) to keep customers happy. It's great to see your shop grow and have a great parts/sales staff to take care of getting us quality parts. You can then pound out great tech videos and get out to ride more often. I appreciate you don't sell junk at your shop. Get what you pay for comes to mind. Thank you!!

Yea he really is. His shop has always been great help with orders and the videos are so educational. It's frustrating when people just think he is here to advertise. I mean for all the free knowledge he gives it out I don't mind him trying to make a buck. Motorcycle business is not easy. Thank you for all you have given Jeff.

I got a 'Ricky Stator' for my 2023 300 XC.... there is a week or so turn around time. You can also get them from MotoMinded with a core charge..... just send your stator back for a credit so you don't have any downtime. They are getting around 75w...... compared to the 30w stock stator.

Ricky Stator has a rewind option that works well on my TX. I asked them to supply me with a new rewound stator as to not have to send mine to them. I had it in a couple days. I can now run a headlight and fan with no trouble as well as quick start stops. I still have small jump pack leads installed just in case. Dan at True North has some really good testing info on output.

I put a 9oz flywheel weight on my 23 250 XC and I pulled it off immediately after my first day of riding with it. Unless your bike is a dedicated 1-2 gear HARD ENDURO bike I would t do it. It changes the motor characteristics drastically. The bike lugged great, but it felt like pulled out a turbo 1000cc razor motor out and put in a non turbo diesel engine. 1-4 gear are SCREEMING just cruising down a two track road and then 5th doesn’t have enough to pull. While it lugged well, it completely killed the snap and liveliness of the bike and made it hard to load the flywheel and get the front end to pop over stuff. The worst part was that 1-4th gear had such an aggressive engine brake feel, it was almost unbearable to ride. Letting off the gas on a down hill wanted to throw me over the bars. This was tested on some slow and flowing single track in American fork canyon for reference

Keep in mind that while the xc stator is quite a bit lighter, it also has a bigger diameter; this might lead to more rotational inertia , which might bring the 2 flywheels closer to the same overall feeling on the motor. Appreciate the in depth documentation on these machines.

We do not see what you are talking about? The XC stator IS a smaller diameter! The overall diameter with the 2 flywheels is the same, they have the same starter thus the same outer ring gear diameter. The bigger flywheel and the magnet draw (load in the motor) from the additional windings is a significant reason the W is more mild compared to the XC. Also keep in mind the rotating mass is the flywheel, the stator itself is fixed. 👍😉

Sprry to ask because you stated in the video. Are you sure the W puller is a 26mm x 1.25 puller? RH or LH? Do you sell them? Btw, love the channel, i have a new 24 W 300. I also have bought 2 slavens Lectrons since 2017 from you.

On my 2023 GAS GAS EC300 I learned that it had a lighter flywheel than the 2023 KTM 300 XCW. The GAS GAS power delivery was much more aggressive as a result. The crankshaft part numbers for both bike were identical. The Flywheel, stator and pickup coil were different part numbers. This is because the Flywheel on the XCW was deeper to make it heavier so the stator had to accommodate. I swapped all three components into the GAS GAS so now it’s essentially a KTM 300 XCW. The power delivery is much much better as a result. So I explain all that to ask this, can’t the flywheel stator and pickup be swapped on the 2024. I have to believe that the crankshaft and the engine cases are exactly the same.

This was my thinking as well. I have a 22 GG. Was thinking of the same thing. I would assume its the same as your 23. I do have a fan, but that is it currently. I'd like to plate it and have been thinking for adding a clutch weight. Did the new FW change things a bunch. Maybe the route I take over the Clutch weight as it would allow a easier light addition.

Yes, AND the voltage regulator! But you will be paving new ground because unknown still if the OCU (canbus) is tied into the main harness? If we are lucky, then the charging system is separate from OCU

Ricky Stator rewinds the stator for the XC. Just received mine back today. Testing shows that it puts out about 75W.

Hi Jeff, awesome info as usual. This one was quick and to the point which I appreciate too. What is the stock stator output on each bike? Is there enough output on the stock XC-W to install a fan kit without upgrading the stator? Thanks.

Hello: I ran a fan kit on my `23 XC with no problems but that is all the stator can handle.

Jeff what's your thoughts on clutch weights vs flywheel weights? I added an 11oz clutch weight to my 23 tx300 heritage and any noticeable difference seems minimal

The goal of a flywheel weight is to add moment of inertia. Adding weight to the outside of the flywheel, like a flywheel weight adds the maximum inertia per oz so to speak. The clutch weights are often a flat plate and so adds comparatively less inertia per oz

Does anyone know if the same is true for the 2024 450 XC-F versus the 450 XCWF/EXC-F stators ? could the EXC-F stator be used in the XC-F bike ?

No. The crankshafts are different.

I am getting ready to take delivery on a 24 TX 300. This issue was brought to my attention just going through you tube videos. This is concerning. I ride a mix of single track woods and open desert riding. Is it possible to put the rotor/flywheel from the XCW/TE on the TX/XC? I can see that the stator is not interchangeable but what if you replaced the whole thing? I know this would add flywheel effect but not sure if that would be the end of the world given where and how I ride. Comments?? Need a solution to run fans and lights etc.

No, won't fit the crankshaft. Ricky Stator has a higher output option.

@slaverace1 What is your opinion/take on the TSP compression heads and re-map options for adding increased bottom end response & also over rev to the stock TBI XC's? Are these items worth the investment? Thank you in advance! I have a full system Pro Circuit exhaust set up which does some of this already, & live in the Boise, Idaho area, @ 2,700 feet & up.

EXC and XCW are the same models with PDS rear suspension. The XC has linkage.

Hello: The KTM owner's manual spec says the alternator is 12V, 110W.

Great information to know before buying. Seems like a bit of a “screw you” to the consumer to make it difficult to swap parts. Also seems like it would increase production costs to not have more in common as they appear they should…

Do you think KTM has obtained their level of success by adopting a "screw you" mentality, do you think that they wouldn't save money in manufacturing costs by sharing parts, and still be able to achieve the desired end results, where possible, hell no, you sound like another typical hater making comments based on your emotions instead of intellect.

I doubt any engineer has "screw you" in mind when designing new bikes. They use the components they determine will work best for the model application.

@@slaverace1 not using the same parts when they could, and they could in this instance, increases costs and makes it more difficult for the consumer to modify the bikes as they see fit. Intentional or not, the consumer is getting screwed.

At least KTM could have used the same stator in both bikes , wow how cheap they are. The bikes need a fan and some riders like a front light, so most owners will need to change out the stator costing us more money . KTM has been fixing somethings and screwing up others. thanks KTM.

Hello Ringo: Sorry, no offense, but KTM did not cheap out or screw up anything. The XC is a race bike, not a trail bike, and the O.E.M. ignition is designed for maximum performance, not for lights, fans, etc.

@@goodboyringo9716 Hello Ringo: It's not my opinion. KTM SX/SXF/XC/XCF models are all listed as race models by KTM, not by me. I agree that many guys use them for trail bikes, but if your going to use them for something other than what it was designed for, you will have to add components to fit your needs.

@@slaverace1 ... Ok , I see I can't win here no mater what I say . So, let me say this , I'll be riding trails and what ever else comes my way with the xc. Just a few years back the trans between the xc and xc-w were different but KTM didn't tell anyone they changed them. KTM should be informing the public of these types of changes and other things. How hard would that be?
