2024 Mazda CX-70 Review | The Biggest 2-Row In The West?

When Mazda introduced the CX-70, the similarities to the CX-90 were immediately clear. Now that we've had a chance to look closer, those similarities are that much more obvious but is that really a bad thing? The size is the same and for a 2 row model that means a lot of dedicated rear storage space with more organized storage available beneath the load floor. The engine options are the same and in the PHEV and Turbo S variants we drove they are both welcome offerings to move you down the road and onto your adventure/activity. The interior has some slight variation to it's 3 row sibling but there's a slightly different aesthetic applied to the CX-70 that will attract folks wanting a sportier feel. If you're shopping for a 2 row SUV and you don't mined one that's on the large end of the spectrum we hope this video will help guide your decision making!

To be frank, if they gave us the CX60 as a CX70, many of us would've complained that it is not significantly larger than a CX5 & CX50. So I understand why Mazda gave us this instead. They chose to err on the side of "larger" because America. They are a small company that makes really good, premium feeling cars but they also have to reasonably save costs when they can while expanding their line-up. I also would rather buy a CX90, unless I really didn't need a 3 row and the CX70 was heavily discounted.
@AAutoBuyersGuide
@AAutoBuyersGuide Месяц назад
Whether they brought the 60 or the 70, there would be model overlap and if I had to venture a guess I would assume it's because Americans tend to like bigger over smaller. -Travis
@user-ox9jj5rt2x
@user-ox9jj5rt2x Месяц назад
@@carbzav8017 I think the assumption was a wider and longer CX-60 with a more refined rear designed rather than that bubbly rear so it would have been bigger with the new powertrain but that just didn't happen and now Americans only have one size choice for that powertrain whereas Europe gets two. Mazda was right in going bigger, but they didn't actually make a new car...it's a new name because of SEO

I continually feel bad for car reviewers who are doing these reviews as if this thing is really a "new model". It isn't. It should have just been a different trim for the CX-90 as a Sport variant or something. There are some reviewers going over the top with their "NEW MODEL!!" nonsense and I'm actually embarrassed for them. Shame on Mazda for what they did here. Just a lazy effort in my eyes.

@Xkelletor
@Xkelletor Месяц назад
My problem with this vehicle is not even the lazy effort by Mazda to make two cars that look identical. My problem is the pricing, why would I skip on an MDX with a V6, 10 speed and SHAWD for this with the same price? A more reliable and easier to repair vehicle. I bought a cx9 signature 2021 model and loved it, this time I’m going a different route.

Wife and I were really excited for a mid-segment Japanese premium PHEV to finally give us the "Venza PHEV" we always wanted, but this... this isn't it. There's no way we're toting around a gigantic wart of a vehicle that's nearly 10 inches longer than a Subaru Outback, and doesn't even get 2 miles per kWh EV range. Truly abysmal market analysis and product development from Mazda, a surprising blunder for an otherwise amazing brand.

So the only difference between the 70 and the 90 is that the 70 doesnt have the 3rd row? While it feels weird, I think I like that better than the trend of adding "L" or "Grand" for the one with more seats, or "Sport" for the one with fewer seats. This is going to be much easier to google and actually get the car you're looking for.

I like they retained the sliding and reclining seats. Sometimes you need to prioritize passenger or cargo space just a bit, and the sliding could help with that. Also like the size as Grand Cherokees and the like don't have enough cargo space. Just wish they had offered in a true soft-roader trim like the Pilot TrailSport. Needs a bigger fuel tank too.

@18bogeyfree Месяц назад
Good job nice review. Yes the bottom line is why not just get a CX-90 and leave the seats folded except for the rare time you may need them? That's the logical choice. Only real reason to get a CX70 over the 90 is that you just happen to like the slightly different trim looks of one over the other. If they had the exact same trim, seat, and look options for both......it would be a no brainer. Get the CX90

Travis and Nick, If this is a two row CX-90, does that make it a wagon? 🤔 Speaking of wagons, just like the new Crown Signia, this CX-70 is S-C-R-E-A-M-I-N-G out for a 40/20/40 second row for easy transport of skis and other long items. Why is that key feature disappearing from so many modern cars in this premium price range? 🤨 I will credit Mazda for including a sliding second row with adjustable seating angle. Once again, both those core features are inexplicably absent in the otherwise impressive Signia. 🙄

@@AAutoBuyersGuide Price of cars has little to do with the depth of residential garages. In fact, just from personal experience I'd say that the depth of garages has shrunk over the decades to the point that new construction McMansions with 3 and 4 car garages are barely deep enough to fit a Tesla Model3 let alone the every growing CUVs of today.
@dimcorner
@dimcorner Месяц назад
@@AAutoBuyersGuide I disagree. Average garage depth are between 20 and 22ft. Mine is 22ft. That gives me only 2.5 feet (shoulder width basically) or less front to back IF you center the car perfectly. Not a lot of room to walk around and even trickier if you actually plan to move stuff from the back of the car out to the house. I have rented a Pacifica (4" longer) and I fit it into the garage but can not open tailgate when car is inside and have to walk sideways in front/back to get around. I haven't been in a +$1M house to look at their garage but all the +$500k homes here are about the same in Atlanta. :-/ As for the tailgate it's not the height, it's the swingout. I have a Q8 eTron and it fits good but not much wiggle room to park (I can be off about 6" and it's ok). But the Cx70 being 8" longer the is no margin and less room to walk around it.
