Really enjoyed this review Paul, nice job! Beautiful looking car, the only thing I’d personally like is the V6 TD. I currently own a Launch edition 2019 Touareg and it’s so impressive in its economy, power and torque. The way these big SUVs handle is bloody impressive, especially at 2500 odd kgs. Almost zero body roll and the way they hold the body flat throughout the twisties is downright impressive. The comfort of air suspension is such a luxury too. Although this R is out of my price range I’d definitely purchase one if I could afford it. The lapitz blue is a stunning colour too.
Have been holding off buying a new Tiguan R as I knew a new Toureg R was coming. I don't have the facility (or the urge) to buy any sort of electric/semi electric car but i have been curious about the latest Toureg R. This review told me everything I needed to know and I'm now happy to save the 50 grand and go with the Tiggy R. The design may be a few years old and is about to be phased out - but that's fine by me. It goes like the clappers and sticks to the road like the proverbial to a blanket. I reckon there'll be run-out sales as well before the end of the year. Thanks Paul, another great video.
AUD $ 130,000 and who would worry about petrol price, if you could spent that on a car. But mind you, 2,500 Kg is huge and can chew your fuel purely due to the weight.
I’d be interested to see how this compares to the higher output diesel R Line, yes it’s not going to accelerate like the full “R” version but I’d be keen to hear wether there’s much of a downgrade in the handling/ride. I’d sacrifice the extra power and a teeny bit of handling for less initial outlay and cheaper running costs because the hi-po diesel is quick enough for me in outright get up and go.
Any chance of quoting ground clearance when you test any SUV. I am one of those rare people that actually takes these vehicles on unsealed roads and also does a bit of light off roading. The ground clearance is one of those specs that is usually difficult to find but it is important to me. I must admit, that tyre profile is a bit concerning for unsealed road use.
Can we have a review on diesel r-line as well? The r-line version has extra 4 wheel steer and active sway bar and curious to see if there have any differences.
If looking at this as a tow vehicle, the towball weight is significantly compromised on all toureags which is an absolute shame because it would be a towing weapon.
Love the testing of this car. I am waiting to see one in the flesh but great value for money and will purchase! I'm interested in its off road ability also.
I feel like the hybrid aspect isn't as strong as it could be? For a plug in hybrid only 50km of range isn't great and this car is has the size and towing capacity for big road trips when the battery will be flat in no time
Not really sure this car worth $130k. The VW badge just can't compare with other luxury BMW or Mercedes, etc. badges. VW tries to become a luxury brand, but just can't, to be honest. Good car, ridiculous price tag. 😢
@@nhaiminhthis Touareg feels much more luxurious than a Mercedes GLE or BMW X5 and costs way less. If you prioritise brand appeal over having an actually good product, then this isn't for you.
It's no good on long trips as it uses too much fuel . The older 2019 -2021 fully loaded Range Rover sport smaller 3.0ltr TDV6 diesel HSE Dynamic, only uses 7 litres of diesel per 100ks on highway and runs at 700nm torque straight off the bat from the diesel engine with a whopping 1100 - 1200 klm range per tank on highway . You can buy around 100 k now with one owner under 20 thousand ks .
It will be a lot lower than the 11 it’s showing. You have to remember it’s probs my been idling, getting a hammering etc, not real highway figures. I’d rather a petrol motor any day than a diesel
I do not see how having a twin turbo petrol v6 that goes from stone cold to 2500-3000 rpm immediately can do any good for reliability. I wonder if there is a programmed warm-up cycle for the drivetrain.
Thank you for great review. Is there any up coming review for the lower trim model of this Touareg. Would love to see the comparison between R and R-line (diesel). 😍
Is having load sensing roof rails linked to the stability control really necessary? Who wants to put a load in the roof and then drive the car at the limit? All that's going to happen is the load will come off the roof. Anyone with any sense would just drive slower with the roof loaded. No nanny electronics required. It will be the end of the world when this car needs repair out of warranty given it's complexity. I am not a VW hater either. I had the first iteration of the diesel Tiguan (manual), and it was one of the best driving, practical and reliable cars I've ever owned.
Love Paul's videos. But, the value for money thing. He is not alone in this. Define what is value for the money on a vehicles. If you buy a new vehicle, any for that matter, drive it for 3 years, trade it and get the same amount you payed for it.That will be value. But that never happens,as deprecation factor sets in. It's a cost throughout ownership. That is not value for money at all.
This car should be a decent car for touring but I’d be reluctant to do so without a spare. Anyone had experience touring with a car that just has a fix-a-flat kit? Years ago, I had a tyre blow-out on the Hume Freeway which did a fair bit of damage to that rim, and I was glad the car I was driving had a full size spare (Subaru Liberty).
It’s such a shame they don’t even offer a space saver option. I’d even consider putting a space saver if the existed it the back with a little cover in it but I can’t travel my state without a spare tyre ffs 😂
Fix a flat / can of goo, can’t fix a tyre with sidewall damage. And, this vehicle is on 22” tyres, with very low profile… So, sidewall damage is much more probable then something on 18” tyres. If u r driving out of metro areas etc, and get tyre sidewall damage, u r then stranded on side of the road, and waiting for a tow truck. If it’s a puncture elsewhere on the tire, can of goo, won’t necessarily work. If it does, u would need to drive slow / cautiously, and limited driving range with goo in the tyre.. Due to the hybrid stuff etc, this Toureg not even available with a space saver tyre… I suppose u could buy a full size spare, or a space saver tyre, and have this in the boot when driving out of metro area. But, that’s not necessarily an ideal situation, especially if u need the cargo area for luggage etc. A full size spare tyre, is the best scenario, particularly if u r driving on bad quality roads / remote areas etc etc.. I think the diesel Touregs, come with full size spare tyre, or, a space saver spare… but, you can swap this for a full size tyre…
The front brake rotors are how big?!? Surely not almost 500mm in diameter? That would make them larger than the Porsche Cayenne GT Turbo’s family pizza sized carbon stoppers!
Diesel still makes more sense unfortunately they have to do this to suit the regulations. Hate to think the potential problems as the engine not able to be fully warmed up each time switching on and off between electric motors in urban driving.
VW is the peoples car When did a “people car” sell at $130k?? I have had Touareg’s and they are great to drive. They are expensive to maintain, but still cheaper than BMW and Mercedes
Most buyers will be Real Estate agents, business owners, lawyers etc that will be likely leased/financed over 5 years, they will take a hit in depreciation but wont care as its in warranty and probably is a tax write-off...its the buyers out of warranty that are going to cop it bad!
@@mrgarrison3516not everyone is a broke bum with no money. Those dorks end up on the china car reviews praising the knock offs of the people that have money, we bring to them the cut down peasant version lol.
130k...😳 With the cost of living crisis currently in Aus how many of these is VW honestly expecting to sell. After pumping one of these off the lights in a Stinger GT, a car for half the price I know where my money will be going.
It’s an excellent car which is still continuing overseas, only reason it’s discontinued in Australia is because sedan sales are scarce and the only thing people buy are SUV’s and Ute’s.
Dude, this car doesn’t compare to a stinger, you’re clueless, this is prestigious compared to a stinger, the quality, ride rubs rings around the stinger. Stinger minger 😂
In the video, Paul got from 0 to 100 in 5 seconds V6 Stinger has similar pace. But, a Toureg R, isn’t trying to be a Porsche 911… And, when u we’re faster then the Toureg, maybe the Toureg driver wasn’t actually trying all that hard…
Funny how u wont show how poorly it self parks. For the price tag one would expect a car that doesnt give occupants whiplash when it tries -fails- to self park. 👎👎
Only affordable for the upper end of the demographic. Economy is poor but if you paying $130k you're not going to concern yourself with that really. Very expensive to maintain and service.
Thinking about buying one. Does the R version lose rear wheel steer? Does it have a drop down tow ball? The exhaust note is weak and needs crackle and pop for a $130k missile. Is a sports exhaust option available? Nice looking big brother to the Tiguan R.
They had to drop the rear wheel steering and the fancy active suspension (keeps it flat). Something about the packaging space that the hybrid/battery takes up.
They do tend to scratch and show dust. Some can also look ‘plasticy’, but yes, seems more a personal opinion that he doesn’t like Piano black in bag car, watching all the videos.
So sick of people saying this in 2024. Go experience it first. See the quality, ride, options then compare it with your $85k Korean cars……you just can’t compare.
@@GR8Tmate see the quality?? Like volkswagen was known for that. When did I say korean cars? Or even talk about comparison? 😂😂 Another fanboy crying over here
If u r only driving in metro areas, it’s fine. If the can of goo, can’t temporarily fix the flat tyre, at least Roadside Assistance / Tow Truck, should get to you fairly quickly But, country roads / country driving, is risky with only a can of goo, as your option to fix a flat tyre. And, can of goo, definitely can’t fix a tyre with sidewall damage…
This car seems a bit silly to me. Not particularly good at anything. If you want a roomy performance vehicle, get a wagon :) Shame VW don't make a modern R36
@@kiwiklogg Yes Agree Back in 2011, for a while my vehicle was a Skoda Superb wagon, that had the 6 cylinder engine, that was similar to the R36 motor. Elegance model optioned up. With the AWD, it had great traction. It hooked up, and had fast pace etc A really awesome vehicle.
VW have already gone back to the dial switches for the steering wheel controls, except for this model. Why the hell is that? Those things are terrible and dangerous
I told the dealer, I would have ordered 5 of these if they had the real buttons on the steering wheel but I will have to go LC300 instead. So disappointing!
