I would just like to see a japanese dual sport in the 4-500 cc range with a six speed gearbox. Fuel injected under 340 lb's. Under $9k in price. Reasonably comfortable seat. And decent suspension for us 220lb guys going over a speed bump. I don't expect or want a motocross suspension. But should be able to go over small one to two foot jumps without bottoming out. And 3000 mile oil changes. 40-50 Horsepower range. Basic unicorn bike. I've heard rumors a new drz400 is in the works. If it's true I hope they do more than slap fuel injection on it, and give it bold new graphics.
100 %. I bought the 701 and love it but would have been content with a smaller simpler bike. If this or a CRF with a bit more oomph was out I would have bought that
Come on Honda !!! Just do it for Dirt Funboys... Bring us a "cheaper" CRF450(R)L with 10.000 km Service intervals. Adventure Kit or Rally Edition A2 Licence < 48 Hp. Weight < 160 Kg Price < 9.000 € Or maybe a NX500 R (Dominator)🙏 True Lightweight Off-Road Adventure, 160 Kg - 21"/18"
@@posteroonie Hahaha !!! True !!! You are right my friend !!! Unfortunately, it is "unreal" in today's world to get under 200 Kg with abs, electronics, Euro6 etc. We just dream, that one day Honda & other manufacturers will offer bikes in similar specifications, if not better than the NEW "Singles" Kove450, Cf450MT ... Ride safely 💪😁
In the latest video you can also see the bike is fitted with a saree guard. This would indicate that that specific bike is spec'd up for the Indian market where price is more of a driver. My money says we will get different variants at different prices and possibly for different markets. Don't get the pitch forks out just yet... 😅
I agree, when the 390 ADV was released in India it did not have the adjustable suspension which was standard in Europe and I think US, KTM know they are going to have to compete with the 450MT and other Chinese bikes in the near future.
Make one version. The version people actually want. Production cost is lower due to only needing to source a singular set of parts rather than several versions.
@@michiganmoto7687 which 'people'? America? Europe? India? East Asia? Whilst we exist in our own ecosystem it's easy to forget that we make up a small segment of the international motorcycle market.
Why? Just buy a 690, it would be better than any 390. If it’s too tall, lower it, and it’ll still be better. It comes in at 150kg wet, far superior engine, chassis (proper off road, not a modified Duke) and suspension. Loads of aftermarket parts too.
@@martyn_g Because a bike exactly like the 690, but with a smaller engine, lower weight and lower price would be better for some-me included. It makes me laugh when people are unable to see other perspectives than their own.
@stefanhansen5882 I completely agree, I had a 390 ADV and 690 Enduro and love the Enduro because it was LIGHTER and more off road capable. If this 390 end up being lighter than the 690 I will trade my 690 in for it in a heart beat! If it's not lighter however I could really care less what KTM does with it.
Yeah I think the combo of the standard 390 Adv and Adv R would be ideal rollout.. I would even think that in a few year I would move from the 890 Adv R to a smaller platform capable and connecting gravel travel and odd long haul at moderate speeds when needed.. it would make the gravel travel less work in harder sections which is appealing… and long as they maintain a decent fuel capacity to allow for extended range in the more remote areas
I actually think scenario 4 is the most likely. I think it makes sense that KTM is rebuilding its entire 390 ADV platform to be in line with their 790/890 models. That is, the base model is a proper adventure bike with good suspension, ground clearance, etc. This current iteration of the 390 ADV is hardly different from the Duke right now (design language, rider geometry, tuning, etc.). Whereas the 790/890 ADVs are quite different than their Duke counterparts. This may be KTM revamping the 390 ADV to be in line with the others. The 390 ADV R variant will probably be coming out alongside the redesigned base model. Just my armchair expert opinion though.
2025? Too late, CFmoto 450 mt is almost already there. I lost thrust in Ktm announcements. They are everyday more and more depending on Chinese factories, and they cannot decide when the production will start. It is like the old joke: "I'm the boss, but who decides is my wife."
Hi Solid, great content as always. By the end of the year I have alotted funds for buying the opposite of my Pan America 1250S. I fully authorize you to help me make that decision, and hope that Big Red Honda will get their head out of their arse and get in the game with a CRF400L with suspension upgrades like yours! (giddy as a school girl at the prospects)
I'm very eagerly awaiting this one. I currently have an older 690 enduro with some adv fairing and luggage mods. It's great fun, but often too much. Yes it will wheelie in 5th on the highway, but it also is hard to ride slow technical stuff even with short gearing. It's very vibey above 100 kmh. It eats through rear tires like butter. It's not very reliable.. A 390 with a bit less power and more comfort and a 3 year warranty might be just what I need. Especially if it ends up lighter than the Himalayan 450 and CFMoto 450 MT!
COS another informative presentation. Like with any KTM, either with cast 19” or spoked 21” variants they will crazy expensive with every option under the sun but the ones you pay extra for. Going with the 450MT & smash it to bits & wont bother, just get another one. Put the hydrocarbons back in the dirt😉
My hopes are for the "19/17 regular" and "21/18 R" versions, but if I was betting my own money I would put it on 19/17. This keeps the seat height down for asian and South American markets and the plastics and styling will make it ADV. Spoked 19/17 as a factory option. Given the sales numbers so far, they may not give us the 390 R that us "Solidonians" want unless the Himalayan and CF Moto bikes put a dent in sales. Both of those bikes will be much cheaper as well... Also, you started my weekend early with a Friday video release! Woooo Hoooo!
I've commented plenty that I think the MT450 is going to kill the rest of the market. It has so many features and that second cyl will make it nice on the road when needed.
Got fed up of waiting on the KTM 390 Adventure R, so i just this week put a deposit on the CF Moto 450MT here in NZ. Plus on the day I found out it was sub $10k nzd (£5000)
i really hope they will keep both 19 inch and 21 versions so everyone’s happy. i might consider trading in my 2017 390duke for the 19 inch adv, once the new model is out. i like traveling but i don’t like big displacement engines. don’t like the costs that come with those. i’m even considering the honda nx500. i want a bike that is fun in the twisties, easy in traffic (i live in rome, italy), comfortable for weekend trips (max 300km, no highways) and comfortable to stand up on for very mild offroading
The underslung exhaust/muffler is a worrying feature also. A lot of ground clearance is lost there, and points towards a soft roader focus. I hope i am wrong
Been hanging out for this bike to replace my wr250r but if its heavy, has 19/17 wheels or suspension isn't top notch I be buying a CRF450l and modding the hell out of it to be an adventure bike.
I think in the international market it will have the 21/17 combo but unfortunately here in India they are bringing a 19/17. KTM for whatever reason is not bringing their top of of the line products to India while all other major ADV manufacturers are selling their top range here.
One of the biggest reason I want to get myself a 390 adv is the unique appearance. New version looks like 450MT which I'm not interested anymore... I'll probably still go for the older 2024 version.
every manufacturer's can't lie their buyers anymore, Itchy Boot is the proof of full size adv makes no sense for real adventure, we're supposed to have the bike that capable to travel with us to remote area alone, not required a whole bunch of dealers along the way.
Waiting for the new version. I am a tourer since more than 3 decades, not a hardcore off-roader! 19"- 17" alloys suit me the most. What, like plenty others, I was pissed off with KTM, is : it's not good "tracktable" one, at lower RPMs. It's a big hindrance in slower traffic anywhere and particularly in India. I hope, it addresses this issue by re-aligning the torque delivery curve a bit. Otherwise I am OK with all other aspects of the bike. 👍
I figure if KTM goes with the more off-road version, 21” front wheel they could be the light weight Adventure Bike leader, if not the CFMoto 450 will probably win the year. Hopefully all the Japanese bike manufacturers will see their numbers go down and build a bike that most of us are looking for. Great video, always enjoy your insight and info!!
Exhaust outlet is a bit of a water sucker. Actually a 17" rear instead of 18" is not the disaster that a 19" front instead of 21 is. A 17 would allow a higher profile tyre which I prefer off road anyway for the same rolling height/ mote sidewall cushining.
I bought the ADV 390 in September, would have waited for this as there was a hint in one of the channels about 2025 ADV 390. Hoping for a good suspension setup and the rally version for the core offroad enthusiasts.
Definitely looks like 19/17 wheels, which would be a crying shame. I'm leaning more and more towards a sub 500cc adv bike, but 21" wheel is an absolute requirement. Maybe the CFMoto MT?
I believe the 19 inch version is going to be the normal ADV 390 while the 21 inch spoke version could be the 390 Adventure ( SW) just like the current gen.
I have watched several videos describing and suspecting about the bike; all say basically the same thing and all ignore the very unusual exhaust. Were you paid by KTM for your video?
I think you’re right, there will be a street 390 Enduro, and an up spec off road oriented “R” version.😉👍. Will I be buying one 🤔? Nope ! I got burned on the last two KTM’s I owned, both had problems the importer refused to fix, or even acknowledged were problems, and just kept feeding me a line of BS hoping I’d give up. I did give up, no more KTM’s for me 🤨👎!!!
I think KTM will give us what “we need” vs what “we want”. Most of us spend the majority of the time on the road during our adventures. Dirt or paved, a 19-17 wheel combo works just great. KTM has offerings for the more off-road and for that reason I think they will keep the new 390 adventure similar to what it was.
Leave the 390 in its current state of trims and options. KTM should leverage their partnership with CFMoto by putting the 490 Adventure back on the drawing board, using CFMoto's twin-cylinder 450 motor. Make the 490 Adventure distinctly upscale from the MT/Ibex 450, by adding upscale suspension, electronics and components.
I'm VERY excited for this motorcycle, I loved my 2022 KTM 390 ADV HOWEVER If this bike isn't lighter than the ktm 690 Enduro R I am 0% interested in it in all honesty...
Looks like they are doing an adventure, road oriented and an enduro version, more off road oriented, with the 21" front, 18" rear. There is a spy shot video out there showing this.
Its gonna be a huge disappointment if its not going to come with 21inch front at least as a variant or as an upgrade option here in India. People are too narrow here and making statements like 19inch would work as they would ride it mostly on road and less off-road and could also match their height . Come on, we are looking for the best off-road weapon here and not something Okayish as you ride on road mostly and off-road motorcycles are meant to be tall and its all about how we handle it. Period.
hey solid, I see on the Australian Motorcycle News site that SWM importer pulls the pin on the Italian brand. I never owned one but have always been curious, as a GS1200 owner with a CRF300 Rally, the SWM looks the business for adventure riders here in Aus, so what went wrong? why don't I see these everywhere? from what I know, price is pretty good, they are adventure ready, I thought they are in the unicorn zone, so why aren't they selling like four X here in Queensland? Love to see your take on this mate. Awesome channel solid.
If they release a version with the 21” wheel. I’d seriously consider it. If not, I’ll be buying the crf300 Rally. Side note. I’m not a big fan of that low mount exhaust. If you’re making an “Adventure “ bike. Why would you terminate the exhaust at the bottom of the bike?
Hello solid, how are you? Love your video's! I came to Australia for a big motorcycle trip. Im getting a drz in perth today and starting to kit it out, I was wondering what insurance do you use? If you don't mind answering of course. Thank you!
Ktm should offer 2 variants one with 21/18 & the other a 19/17. If no 21/18 variant, then excel rims will do the job. Ktm should surely launch the 21/18 variant. Just love it❤
This could be my next bike, to complement my existing. Not a replacement for my CRF, but could be better to tour on with a bit of dirt road thown in. Held off on the RE and CF for this reason, hope it was worth the wait.
I bought a 390 when it first came out and dumped money into the suspension, wheels and ECU updates. Was a pretty fun bike but I treated it as a stop-gap until the then hoped for 490 p-twin R bike came out ... when that died off, I just picked up a 690 and for the kind of riding I do, it's my unicorn ... The 390 - fun as it was - didn't have enough dirt chops - or pop the front over obstacles torque - to be satisfying in the dirt. The 690 is an absolute blast to ride and is properly fun on twisty pavement as well. All that said - if KTM built a smaller R spec bike I would definitely take a look at it. But I it would have to be pretty spectacular to replace the 690 at this point ...
THE KTM 390 WILL BE LAUNCHED IN TWO DIFFRENT VERSIONS ......... THE 21x18 COMBINATION AS SEEN IN THE VIDEO WILL BE AVALABLE ALL OVER THE WORLD BUT THE 19X17 SETUP WILL BE FOR THE INDIAN MARKETS ONLY TO COUNTER THE ROYAL ENFIELD HIMALAYAN 450 AND WILL BE AVAILABLE WITH BOTH CAST AS WELL AS SPOKE WHEELS. PLEASE NOTICE THAT THE TWO MOTORCYCLES IN THE VIDEO ARE TOTALLY DIFFRENT IN TERMS OF STANCE AND DESIGN, ESPECIALLY THE 19X17 VERSION WHICH HAS A SAREE GAURD INSTALLED ON THE LEFT REAR WHEEL AND A SAREE GAURD IS ONLY MANDATORY ON MOTORCYCLES SOLD IN THE INDIAN MARKET.
SWM in the form of the Super dual done a 19/17 and 21/18 wheel version ( first the 19/17 ) and 6 months later the 21/18 - I brought a set of 21/18 rims . So I reckon KTM might do the same , one more road focused and for shorter riders and the other for more off road the 21/18 model .
The sequence filmed out of the car must have been filmed in India, as the bike has a sari guard on the left side of the sing arm! Could it be that the bike will come with that wheel size in India, while we Europeans get an 18/21 option, because here everyone is crying out for a more offroad able version?
21 inch front wheel as standard is needed to justify the value to an off roadenthusiast. I am sure all around the world there are cheaper motorcycles that are available with that.
finally a bike I would really like to own.. just to be clear where im from, big cc bikes like 790 and all are really freaking expensive to own,so small displacement are the way to go. If ktm makes this then theres a chance they will give us a 250cc variety as well, which we do get on the duke platform at my location. So really excited for that. The now adventure 390 and 250 are pretty shitty for what it is in my openion. W do get the crf300 rally but thats like super expxpensive, they cost about 16grand(in dollars) so you can only imagine how much more others are gonna cost.
What really irritates me is not so the wheel combo but the under-engine exhaust. Why having off-road size wheels (21/18) and than fitting the exhaust at the lowest place ever? Costwise it may make sense but contradicts offroad capability, especially through deeper water, to a large extent.😢
BMW used to market the F650 with 17/19 and a 'Dakar' variant 17/21. The F650 twin also had a cast 17/19 variant. Like you say, GG/KTM/HQ not ready to race?
Regardless of wheel sizes, I think sticking with a single is going to cost them sales. With the likes of CF Moto, kove and the other brands bringing small twins to market, I think the single cylinder Kato is going to be left in the sales dust.
Hate to be the bearer of bad news but KTM did the same thing 7 years ago with the release of the original adventure. All the spy shots featured a lightweight dual sport but closer to release they added ugly headlight, tons of bodywork, cast wheels and more weight everywhere. Went from being a bike i wanted to a bike i have no interest in.
I thought KTM screwed up on the 390 when they had the "upgrade" from cast aluminum wheels to spoke wheels that needed tubes. A proper upgrade would have been tubeless spoke wheels. The manufacturers need to start finally listening to our howls for a lightweight off road oriented ADV bike with 50 HP for highway riding when needed, because the Chinese (CF Moto, Kove, etc.) are about to eat their lunch. The marketing weasels at the big moto manufacturers insisted on making their small ADV bikes their intro bikes because they didn't want to gut the sales of their more lucrative mid and full size ADV bikes. The Chinese aren't in that Big Moto cartel so they'll provide the bikes we want to the best of their ability. I wish BMW would make a G310GS Adventure, with a 5 gallon fuel tank, spoke tubeless wheels, aluminum bash plate and upgraded suspension. They could charge a LOT more for that bike, even with the 34 HP engine. It's good enough for the little bit of highway riding that I do.
If they don’t produce it with the 21/18 off-road capable bike it will crash and burn. The market is screaming for the more off-road 21/18 spoked wheel. There are too many other options hitting the market in the small displacement category that they will lose buyers like crazy.
For Asian/Indian market it'll be 19" cast wheel version and for international market it'll be 21" spoke. The spy video is from India. Our test mule is 19 cast wheel. Highly unlikely there'll be a 19 spoke wheel version.
I reckon you could be onto something there Solid. I think there will be 2 variants. An Adventure and an R spec. Got to say I think cfmoto have beaten them to the punch with the value packed 450MT.
I think will see a offroad version. But CFmoto will win the race with a parallel twin vs KTM/Royal Single. Unless this KTM comes in 80lbs lighter then the CF/Royal it will be a tuff win..
actually the old one can do serious offroad. you dont have to belive me, go see cris's video on the 390 adv. what he went through with that bike...........without damageing any part, it really wont be any concern anymore
Its an interesting one dad an I had two 390 advs which got rejected for refunds with issues over here in the UK with, the condensation issues in the tfts (big problem in humidity at altitude) an fly by wire problems. An pdi issues. They now dont cover the tft in the uk under warranty. The shame of it is they were the ideal package for what we wanted, a lightweight adventure travel bike thatd take the occasional bit of geeen laning. The gutter was the tech that let the bike down. Im on an 1150gsa an have a a 300 Rally as well a himmy n other bikes like the gsa1200s vstrom etc. I think they have a chance to find the sweeet spot not just for the off road peeps but for those of us that want a lightweight adv travel bike, in retrospect the 300 Rally was to focused for trail the himmy for me was to heavy for what it is an the 390 was a bit off a sweet spot. Would love them to put a better tft on and 19" tubeless spoked wheels. I never thought id look at the Ktms again but my old man just got diagnosed with some prostate stuff so until we know his treatment fully im looking back at finding him a comfortable and lightweight bike. The new one looks cool but i question how comfy that bench seat will be for long distance over the old version could be a great opportunity for a Norden version.
@@chroniclesofsolid no problem at all thanks for the brilliant video another thing we has as well was differing vibration levels between the two of them.
spted in india so it will b a ktm and 19 17 setup is for india for u guys u r gonna get 21 18 as r model or rally model .. but in india ..we will launch it in 19 17 inch first then r and rally model
