I use SP Minnows a lot for striped bass in Northern CA. For some reason fish ALWAYS get hooked on the middle treble. Some of mine I remove the tail hook all together for a little more wiggle of the plug (as well as easier unhooking sometimes the tail hook snags the fish during the fight) and they still catch. I always change the split rings and hooks out the box though because the stock ones fail alot.
How’s it going Braddah Dan, shity weather to fish ah recently. Question, did you make any modifications to your SP minnow like changing trebles or rings? If so what did you change?. Mahalo!🤙
Awesome fishing videos, thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge! For the younger gen., would be nice to see you doing more catch and release.
Beautiful fish !!!! Is there a particular color of sp Minnie you prefer ? Also, when targeting Omilu do you prefer incoming or out going tide? Thanks for your great channel .. even your theme music is top notch .
FG KNOT for the braid to mono? If not what size snap swivel do you use I’ve always use the FG knot for 50ib braid / 50ib mono and the casting through the eyes with the knot doesn’t give me much distance.
Connect the mainline braid to a 2 eye swivel rated 80Ibs and up and then attach a mono leader to the other end of the 2 eye then straight to the lure or a snap swivel rated 80Ibs and up.
Island Hooking right on! and do you find that moon phases of the previous, present, or future days that you are fishing affect the activity as well? From my experiences "shore casting" I've kinda found that moon phases have and effect. But how bout for whipping?
It does but now a days it doesn't concern me anymore. Especially now that I only have certain days to fish I just go fish regardless of the moon phases. Unless its AKUA Night then I don't go.
I hook the main line to a 2 eye swivel first than I use 80Ib Mono leader and attach it to the other end of the swivel. then I connect the lure to the Mono. Sometimes its best to get the floating ones so you can wait for the wave to come in and then let the lure ride the wave. Its all about timing the waves.
50Ib braided mainline is more than enough unless the area you are have really big fish all the time and lots of coral reef than you might want to go 65Ib but play it by ear. The Spheros or Saragosa reels are good. I'm still testing out the Diawa BG 5000 so far so good.
Yeah Dan! Nice Fish! Congrats! Whats your set up for rod and reel? Trying to figure out my Shimano Twin power 5000, w/ Okuma Cedros... Looking at 30lb test 50lb leader... roy (@rokulures)
Shimano great reels. Okuma I stay away from them for now. Broke mines after a month using it. Broke in half where it joins when casting. 50 is good, can really pressure the fish. But 30 works as well depends if get rocks or sand. I use the Ugly stik 9ft because it works well with the Diawa sp minnows and i use the Diawa BG 5000 because of the water tight housing and it holds lots of line with 50Ib Braided.
The 6" floating ones? Those havent worked for me i fee like i dint get enough distance but then again kona side of the big iskand is out fished already
