Sometimes its just luck, but keep watching i'll make some vids to help people to get a jump start on how to fish in Hawaii. I really want to help the new and up coming fishermen and women and hope to teach them enough to get them started and give them a foundation or plat form to work on.
20LB Braided line and 10lb or 15lb mono leader would work. With that you can catch Papio from half pound to 5 pounds with a little skill. But remember Papio has to be 10 inches or longer to keep
Hey Miguel Big Island has lots of fish more than Maui. Your island has lots of good areas to catch GT because of how deep the ocean is. Maui shoreline is shallow. Also kayaking is awesome on the Big Island. Maui is not an easy place to catch fish because of the strong currents and winds which can change on you on a dime. Also we have to compete with lots of tourist in the waters and more divers and fisherman's. But that our reality here on Maui, but we try to make it happen regardless of the obstacles. Trust me its not your Island. Your so lucky!
