mountaindog1 hey john, great video!! Can you do a video for roughly 3 individual body types and how you would tailor calories and if one cheat meal a week can be integrated? I don’t believe I’ve seen as many nutrition and eating videos that would be really helpful. I believed you mentioned always having a Saturday donuts cheat meal, even when getting ready for a show? Does this slow down your cut that much? Can you please help with some basics on how many carbs a person needs to recover without getting out of hand. I know we all are different so it’s tough. Thanks though!!

A brief summary of common exercises: 1. Lat pulldowns: Not arching your back when fatigue occurs, shifts tension to biceps. or using momentum way too much which shifts tension to the lower back. 2. Cable rows: Don't pull with your biceps, think about pulling your elbows back and squeezing your back. Again don't use momentum too much. 3. Dumbell rows: Don't twist your body, drive with your elbows is #1 key, don't turn it into a bicep exercise. 4. Barbell rows: Use straps if it's a heavy set. Don't jerk the bar, or use momentum to drive with your lower back. Keep the bar tight and close to your body, neutral back. 5. Deadlifts: Rather do rack pulls from mid-shin to target more upper back and lats, more like a shoulder extension movement for your back. Rack pull> dls for lat growth. 6. Dumbell pullover: Slight bend in your arms to lock-in position, pull with your lats and keep tension. Do not turn it into a tricep movement by bending too much elbow. Don't go too far when you come back so you don't shift tension away from your back. Form is all for basic movements. 7. Hyperextension machine: Don't set the machine too high, set it around your hips. Don't extend too much into hyperextension since it's gonna be dangerous for your lower back. Conclusion: #1 Drive with elbows rather than arms. #2 Don't jerk the weight, control it with proper form. #3 keep tension on your lats by issuing a proper range of motion. your welcome #Let the gains begin

@@mountaindog1 Wow my pleasure, Thank you! Although I'm a powerlifter I still watch your videos. However, I feel like Cable/dumbbell pullovers are unique in a way they train straight arm scapular retraction, that's why its always a stable exercise for my back. With that being said, I do think deadlifts did the same thing in a certain way by mimicking the same muscle contraction when you keep your lats tight and initiate the movement. But I guess its personal preference and you gotta chose toe most effective exercise for yourself as a bodybuilder. Keep the great work man!

Pullups. Heavy weighted pullups for 9 or more sets. shoulder width grip palms forward. Only thing that ever worked for me. Pulldowns do litteraly nothing for most naturals no matter what you do. Took me 10 fing years to figue out how much brutal intense volume my back can handle before it starts to grow.

All great tips as usual John! Two years ago I checked my back day ego at the door, lightened up the weight, and focused on time under tension with focused contractions. It brought a whole new dynamic to my back day and really brought my back detail, strength, and size up. I felt like I'd been in a physical fight the next day. It made MY back better and I'm back to the old heavy weight but with quality reps. Now I get the question, hey how'd you get your back like that? When I tell them they give me the "oh shit" look. Why, because it's HARD and they can't train like a pussy anymore.

As you illuded too in the video, both back and chest engagement can change dramtically just by sliding your hand up or down the handle. I would love to a video with your advice regarding the handle hand placement.

John started to pop back up on my feed and my algorithms, but this reminded me of the older days, I remember when I was about 17 watching these videos and I’ll be honest from watching him in the past and learning the true true passion not just the life style not just the grind but the true feeling of hating an off day and understanding why you have to take it. It has paid off so much learning the true work ethic and true science with mixed experience and help from John. Even till this day I still do meadow rows. I have gotten so much stronger so much better and get compliments from the older generation who appreciate the art and not the fab or the ego of perhaps not all but the newer generation of working out. Big love to you John miss you 💪🏽🔥. Thank you for all your help and continues help. And remember y’all even if you’re watching this and think that you’re perfect on everything, and have a big back there is still much to learn, change and adapt then change again. Even if you pull push and squat at your most there is always something to grind and drive for. Hope all of y’all have an amazing lift and many more! 💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽

11:26 exactly right. When you move away from the body, you’re adding moment arm. The moment arm is essentially a perpendicular line from the line representing the force. In this case the force is just the magnitude and direction opposite of the weight. Weights like to move in a straight line. We keep it close to our body to minimize the moment arms’ magnitude The simplest way to imagine this is looking at a deadlift - the distance between the hip and straight line path of the barbell. The further back your hip sits, the longer the moment arm.

I really wish John could have been my trainer. I've been lifting on and off for years and only seriously stuck to training this past 6 months. I'm binge watching as many videos as I can before my next session as I believe his knowledge is second to none. He lacks the ego hype a lot of youtubers present and just tells you exactly what to do and how to do it. It feels like he really wants you to improve and doesn't care about clicks. You can tell he shares his knowledge because he loves lifting and wants us all to enjoy it also. I'm so sorry his family and the world lost him.

Very important fine tuning for proper form here. Appreciate it, already making a difference in this past month. I've made a lot of these mistakes, mostly going too heavy and engaging the wrong muscles. I've also started really paying more attention to core and lower back training and that really helped maintain form/endurance on lifts like barbell row, pull-ups.

John Meadows' videos would pop up on my feed from time to time, but its only recently that I've really been watching and paying attention to them. He seems like such a genuinely nice person and I not only love his ideas,, but also how he explains his methods. Its obvious he loves sharing his wealth of training knowledge with his viewers. I recently discovered that he passed away two years ago and now I can't help but feel an extreme sense of sadness watching his vids. Looking into the guy and everything he's been through in life, its truly heartwarming to see how kind he seemed in spite of it all, but its also heartbreaking knowing how it ended for him. Rest in peace Mountain Dog, thank you for all you brought to the world of fitness..

This is hard to do especially when you're young but sometimes you make the biggest breakthroughs and gains by dropping the ego and weights down a notch or two and making sure your form is text book before the weight goes back up. It'll also save you from bad injuries and chronic issues down the road.

HomesliceDrummer so how come my brother and I can eat the same exacts foods and portions and he looks drastically different than me. How come he can eat less than me and grow more than me? And he is, i actually eat significantly more calories than him and I taught him how to workout.
