I fish the same water as you and I got rid of my metaniums and bantam. The metaniums especially, I found them too finicky if trying to get the best cast out of them. Very smooth bringing in a fish though. I honestly find the curadp 150 mgl a better reel for our waters over the metanium. My zillion sitting on top of a Laguna Trident is the ticket though. Casts a mile, smooth retrieve, light enough, and all around great. I also love using the Alderberan and custom lite. Both are great for our coast.

I really enjoy the casting distance videos. The comparisons are very interesting. I am an old timer and I find your casting technique different than mine. Your are able to achieve much greater casting distances than I am able to achieve. I come from the days of Garcia 5500c round bait casters. I would set the spool tension to a slow drop of the bait in free spool, then cast. I am dragging my thumb on the spool as the cast is being thrown. My thumb is constantly monitoring the backlash and fluff of the line as it exits the reel. I watch you set the magnetic brakes then cast and completely remove your thumb from the spool. I just have a hard time doing this. The results are your getting an extra 10-15 yards per cast. I need to improve my casting with these new reels.

I'm a Big Shimano guy but I recently picked up a Daiwa Zillion and although they may not cast as far as most of my Shimano's, they're very user friendly and are great for anyone from a novice to a pro to throw without backlash. Mine only took 5 minutes to set up and I was casting a very good functional distance without problem.
@chaoyang9080
@chaoyang9080 Год назад
Zillion is a must have reel. You don’t need anything or experience to pitch a lure accurately, cast a lure far, skip it perfectly just with a simple dial of the brake. No more spool tension adjustments anymore. It is so versatile. One rod one reel fishing, this what you need.
@findingthetrackway4875
@findingthetrackway4875 Год назад
That's one thing the video definitely showed, which is easier to brake adjust. The Zillion can long cast and quickly adjust the brakes for skipping. While the Bantam and Met can be a bit bothersome. Then there's the possibility of dropping the side plate which is going to happen.
@THEREELTEST

@caseydangar4414
@caseydangar4414 Год назад
I have the same reels as well and distance wise the bantam blows my zillion out of the water and does it with much less force in the cast. Control wise they are close when casting short distances but when you get past 50 feet or so, the zillion becomes a handful and my bantam just does it so effortlessly. The problem I have with my zillion is similar to his problem. When I try to cast with any real distance with my zillion, I'm constantly going between blow ups every other cast or going another step down on the brake setting and getting a controlled cast with considerable less distance. So I've stuck to just pitching and flipping only with my zillion and maybe some intermediate casting here and there. But the bantam is just an all around great performer. And the infinity drive for me is absolutely a difference maker. But I did not notice it until I was reeling in decent fish. When it's under heavy load, you can really tell the ease and smoothness of the infinity drive vs my 2018 bantam that does not have it.

If they were the same price, I would've bought a Metanium over the Zillion. But the Zillion is cheaper to begin with and I found an open box (new reel) for 195. I can't pick a Metanium for 250-300 more dollars. It just wouldn't sit well. Not to mention, I don't know if I fish enough to justify a 425-500 dollar reel. I was gonna settle with a Tatula or a SLX. Probably the SLX. But for 170 off because a box was opened I had to go with the Zillion. Either way, this comparison makes me happy. I'm sure the reel will cast further than my Calcutta 100 92, my Abu Garcia 5600, or my really old Daiwa MA15G Magforce reels. In case anyone is wondering, I've done 99% of my fishing with my spinning reels. That said, the supposed ease of the Zillion should suit me well.

The two palm very similar as well. The Bantam feels similar to the metanium 2020 and no where near as bad as the giant silver brick aka the 2021 Antares DC
@bassnbonsai
@bassnbonsai Год назад
Yeah the zillion is the biggest the Bantam would be next and I considered the matanium to Palm the smallest but in all honesty the Bantam is the most comfortable to Palm the only downsides to that real is how heavy it is how heavy it is
@jimt5683
@jimt5683 Год назад
So how does the zillion palm I have a small hand, how big is it compare to 2016 scorpion 70?
@findingthetrackway4875
@findingthetrackway4875 Год назад
@@jimt5683 in my opinion, the rod plays a big part of the equation. I have a rod that neither my Met B or Zillion feels all that great on. However, put a Curado DC on and it's like hearing Angels sing. I was wondering if the Bantam sat differently, or was a little shorter before buying for this particular setup.
@bassnbonsai
@bassnbonsai Год назад
Well I haven't had the scorpion 70 but I'm assuming that is the same frame as the curado BFS and nothing palms as small as that real but the zillion definitely is comfortable to Palm but does still feel a touch on the big side compared to these small reels the metanium is probably the closest to the corrado BFS but in my opinion The phantom palms slightly bigger than the metamian but it's a more comfortable call me feel overall it kind of like has a spot for your thumb to set instead of your thumb just up being on top of the real

I have all these. But I’m not going to fish with Zillion sv when I need to bomb cast heavy swim bait/chatter baits. It’s gonna damage the plastic foot inside the sv spoon. So for heavy stuff, give it to Batam, curado etc. SV and dc reels are perfect for skipping lures and use for windy conditions.

Think it is going to be the bantam, as my zillion outcasts the scorpion DC (not by much but definetly noticeable. Maybe around 3-5m with 1/2oz Spinnerbaits on a MH rod). As the bantam at least here casts further than the zillion it should definetly cast further than the scorpion as well.
@caseydangar4414
@caseydangar4414 Год назад
I can attest to the bantam casting further than the 21 scorpion dc. The 21 scorpion dc has a really heavy braking profile compared to other earlier versions of the scorpion dc so it's not a monster caster distance wise in my opinion. But its a very controlled caster. Its a dream to fish with when extreme distance isn't needed

If distance and a smaller form is your highest need, the Bantam is your choice. If it’s the ability to throw various lure weights with little to no adjustments and a more haste free experience in windy conditions, choose the scorpion DC.

USA fishing line measurement vary from manufacturers. That said the actual break strength and stated diameter on the box/website may vary too. Most lines are stronger (actual break, without knot factor) and thicker than stated. Pretty much you got do your own tests and find what fishing line works for you, which is stupid. That braid seems thicker and more in line with 50lb braid. I personally run 50lb PowerPro Maxcuatro and it seems more like 30lb line diameter comparing vs other brands and have enough line to bomb most frogs without spooling out. This is the only line in my experience that has the stated strength, yet it's thinner than what it claims.

@@THEREELTEST okay to say “fanboys” is a stretch dude first of all there is a lot more people that either know of shimano or are fans of shimano lol you’re like talking shit without blatantly saying it. And on top of that a lot more people probably know of shimano, people that aren’t even really into fishing even know about shimano dude if anything shimano and Daiwa would be like direct comparison of Apple and Samsung as rivals (apple=shimano. Daiwa=Samsung) but regardless they both catch fish and both do their job really fucking well. I love both company’s equally and there are alot of Daiwa reels that are better than some shimano reels just as there is alot of shimanos better than Daiwas but I will give shimano one thing their $300-500 dollar range reels usually tend to be better in my opinion and also Diawas braking system is a lot more friendly as the mag force is more heavy on braking than the SVS infinity but the SVS infinity system is more of a free spool experience as you only tighten tension knobs to minimize side to side play both have advantages and usually the magforce allows for more consistent casting but the SVS does allow for more distance which is really good for bottom working baits when you really need that long cast but, I prefer daiwas for power fishing as I feel like mostly i almost never backlash working a square bill or chatterbait working docks or shell beds power fishing. But my point is just as you have different rods for different techniques and reels, different company’s do different techniques better than the other where the other doesn’t excel as well.
