Kevin Kelly is the founder of Wired Magazine, a futurist, author, and public speaker known for his insights on technology’s impact on society.
Working out how to live a good life is complex. However, having rules from someone much older and wiser than you can make this a lot easier. Kevin has condensed a lifetime of insights into a few hundred sentences in his new book, and today we get to go through some of my favourites.
Expect to learn why you should do everything you can to avoid being a billionaire, how to have a more optimistic outlook on life, whether you can trust websites with the word ‘truth’ in them, why you are more likely to be defeated by blisters rather than mountains, how to understand yourself better, the best way to turn bad days into good ones, how to understand yourself better by being irritated by other people and much more...

Chris, I am only four minutes in and I am so grateful for this interview already. I NEED to hear this right now, as I am hopefully at the tail end of a decade that has been non-stop challenges and negativity. I'm not suicidal but the joy for life has been sucked right out of me and it has been very hard to stay positive. I already feel encouraged and I have barely gotten into the episode. You are inspiring and I appreciate you and your channel so much! ❤

Some really brilliant, and inspiring ideas... Disagree with the Conspiracy chapter, 'there's no them', i would definitely point to the WEF and their agenda's, which are just clear as day at this point, as an argument against that... but that chapter aside, a very valuable podcast. 👍

Fully agree. Most people just cannot handle the idea that culture is planned, it's too disruptive for them. Read Tragedy and Hope by Carol Quigley as an initiation, then try to find out who owns the bank of international settlements. There is definitely a Them.
@mowthpeece1

LMAO!!!! You people are incredible. You've confused planning, which happens in everything from what you're having for breakfast to the Monetary Fund, for conspiracies, which are criminal by definition. And Conspiracy Theories, which are psyop mind control devices designed to turn you against your government, media, medical establishment, religious establishment, universities, etc., by scaring you away from the air you breath, water you drink, food you eat, medicine you take, etc. But hey, if it makes you feel important for "knowing what the stupid sheeple don't know" then have at it. You're just getting farther and farther away from reality. And don't that THAT not a plan, too! LOL!!

Love Kevin Kelly, so I knew I’d love this, however, Chris’s insight, intelligence and self awareness in the pursuit to be the best human he can be, elevates and changes this conversation to another level. It’s also fresh and not redundant. 👏🏻

Regarding the mindset of dealing with bad days: I heard this piece of advice once that I've since used to tune my mindset. "Today could be your best day ever, and you just don't know yet. But believing that it could be already puts you closer to it being true." When I start any day thinking that, or remind myself that even despite setbacks, there's no reason that isn't still true, it puts me in such a positive mindset to approach every other activity or task in my day.

55:33 You CAN be kind with a random act to a stranger. But when it comes to dealings with an associate there must always be an escalation in value exchanged. It starts on your part with a smile and good energy and then its THEIR turn to reciprocate and raise the bar. Anyone who comes to you for a hand out without offering value first is someone who is JUST looking to take. Even if your resources were infinite your dignity should guide your response.

My cousin had a tiny bit of fame when I was a teenager. He was in a band that toured with Busted, so of course all the Busted fans also became his fans. He couldn't have a cup of coffee in the train station with his parents. I know from that point that I never wanted to be famous, ever.

"Being right vs. being kind" has a lot of nuance that wasn't explored here. Is a CEO kind when he fires 100 people to save the jobs of 200? Is it kind to tell someone something that makes then feel bad in the short term but improves their long term outcome? In most professional settings, we want someone to who finds the kindest way to be right (e.g. a doctor).

The wealth for time is very subjective, and to me, most people I admire are less about free time and more about producing, working till they day they die, always looking for new ventures. Not saying it’s healthier or better but seems to me that the people with the most free time are the least happy and interesting.

Wired was a great magazine when it first appeared. Genuinely interesting articles and different viewpoints on niche unfolding issues. Now though, it’s nothing more than a predictable and boring mouthpiece for the establishment regurgitating the usual dogmas.

Heaven and Hell. If you are living in your car and you want to, you are in Heaven. If you are living in your car and you don't want to be, you are in Hell. All just a point of view. Making love and rape are just "consent", I want to or don't want to. The secret is in being on the right path.
