Very cool test. We dont often see something like this with such different types of guns with different barrel lengths. I've always thought of a 22 mag pistol with a 4 1/2'' - 6'' barrel to be equivalent in velocity to a 22 LR in a 18'' -20'' rifle barrel and that's pretty close to what we see here with the semi auto Walther
@@ToolsandTargets Definitely changes things for EDC crowd IMHO. Thanks for showing people that there are always options other than what is commonly used 👍👍
Another great test on your part T&T. Both firearms were impressive but that Walther was really nice. The speed difference was really significant. Looks like this ammo is a real keeper. Thanks for all you do. Be safe and keep the faith.
My wife carries this round in her Ruger LCR 22 magnum. That is the only gun she will carry and with this round I think she she is covered. Great review.
Wow! That is eye opening! Nice round, very surprising! I would choose that Walther WMP all day long! A couple of mags would do some damage with a quickness! Get a similar length or longer Rough Rider could get better results too but that capacity on the WMP 😎👍💥💥💥 Good stuff brother!
Love seeing 22Mag semi-auto's. Always wondered why they didn't make them, but they've started to now. Hopefully we see some more good one's in the future. It really is a good self defense round IMO. Only prob is that similar sided guns exist that shoot much more powerful rounds. (Why carry a weaker gun when more powerful ones exist that are just as easy to carry/conceal?)
Thanks for the Bar Keep 22wmr test, I was apprehensive about buying the 22wmr cylinder. Now I will get it. Are you going to use the Bar Keep in the upcoming CCI "Uppercut" 22LR test?
I would choose the Barkeep. I like the fact when using a revolver if you have a miss fire, just squeeze her again. NO JAMS like an auto. Just my likings. People carry whatever they want. Thanks for sharing this video.
Thanks Tools!!! The .22 wmr has fast become one of my favorite calibers. This Critical Defense ammo has become a bit of a unicorn in Northern Kentucky but I finally found some lol. I had to order the gold dots in this caliber and shew, a lot of hair in that dog buddy! They sure are proud of that chit, I’m a little ashamed of what I paid for that stuff lol. We sure appreciate this content brother. These 2 rounds ain’t cheap.
I was sitting here looking at my Heritage revolver when he said that’s what he was shooting. So, with a box of CCI Maxi Mags my little Heritage 4” barrel revolver should be pretty impressive. 👍🇺🇸
You are quickly becoming one of my favorite pew pew RU-vidrs. Man every video I've watched is awesome. And the cherry on top of the cake from one southern boy to another I love your accent man. Keep up the good work brother.
I really appreciate your 22magnm test Tools ! You might remember I've been using 2 of my Rough Riders (I've got 4 now) with the mag cylinders for carry and house guns. I like cowboy revolvers and I like the 22 magnum round. I've been loading up with the CCI 40gr- flat nose FMJ and the 40gr hollow points. Both rated at 1875 from a rifle. I really like CCI ammo. It's always been very reliable. I might have to try some of these Hornady cartridges. My local shop had some the other day, but all the boxes were damaged. So I passed and picked up some more CCI's. They did want $2 more a box for the Hornady. And as for which of those 2 handguns I'd pick- I see no reason to pick one over the other. I'd carry the auto as my main gun, and use the Barkeep for backup. But I'm sure either one would solve most problems I might run into. Thanks man for doing these real world test on ammo and tools. Not everyone uses a 9mm or even a 38. My Mom and wife both have 22's for their defensive handguns. As do many people I know. Hec, I've got several handguns in bigger calibers I do rely on. But I do sometimes grab one of my 22lr or 22magums. Your test are just confirming my trust in them to get the job done if necessary. Thanks for the time and effort you put into your channel !
Thank you for taking the time, and the expense to produce a much needed evaluation of this round from two very different handguns. Here in my woods, we use my "HBI" test media. "Hog Body Intrusion". There are feral hogs and coyote that run my woods alot. Mobile media on the hoof. Of the three Rough Riders I own (6.5", 4.75", and 3.5") the birdshead 3.5" is by far the most accurate of them all. Using .22Mags in the 3.5", it has done in 7 hogs last year, with only one requiring a follow-up shot. If it can drop a 200 pound boar, I believe it would severely damage a 150 pound tweaker just as well. Though .22 cal is not my regular carry caliber, if it's all I have on me at the time, like with the hogs, well I'll certainly use it. Again, thanks for your untiring work to bring us all real world testing and evaluation of the weapons and ammo available to us.
Great test as usual! I have the same ammo loaded in my PMR 30 and in one of my Barkeep’s. 30 rounds of that ammo in the PMR makes for a great option. Keep up the great work Tools! Really hoping for a 4 hour live stream soon, having withdrawal.
🇦🇺😎👍🏁🇺🇸Happy Wednesday my friend….I’m a friend of the 22mag🏁……noice…200 feet / sec deeper penetrator ….the revolver is just like a 22 lr….the Walther is the business🏁✌️🤠🇺🇸
Great comparison between two quite different “pieces” . Down under we can get these at $22.50 for a 50 piece pack ,about the same as we used to get a bucket of the colonels finest, they disappeared for a while but are back on the shelves, happens to be what I believe as the most expensive.22 magnum ammo available here . The Walthers are available here also ,the run at usd $68 bucks more than a ppq so usd $850. I was thinking keltec now im swayed towards the Walther. Thanks again very much for the informative demonstration !
If I were to choose one for *carry* ... it'd be the Barkeep. In that application, it's about concealment for me. And it's performance wasn't too bad. So acceptable penetration + pretty good expansion + concealment = Barkeep.
Nice performance by both! I sure wouldn’t want to be on the receiving ends of either one. The .22 mag is no slouch. Great video as always my friend 👍🇺🇸
Very cool test yet again. You never disappoint with the gel tests. I have a TAURUS 942 IN 22 WMR that I occasionally carry. It is an 8 shot revolver. I really like it as a backup carry option for pocket carry. I have some of that Hornady ammo as well. Great results again. I am going to continue carrying my Taurus with the Hornady ammunition. I am still on the lookout in my local shops for the Federal PUNCH in WMR. Maybe I can send you some for a test if I find it before you do. Great job again. I really enjoy your content. Looking forward to what you will do next.
Love this test, also great choice in the tools you chose for this test. I was very impressed with the performance of this ammo I think it did great. I have not seen any of that Hornady WMR locally but the way it performed I will be looking. Thank You have a good one my friend I will see you on the next one.
We have the hornady loaded in our Taurus 942 for carry, and in our 6.5 Heritage staged in the basement (laundry down there)...it is a good, dependable round especially in a revolver, and the missus can control it with ease...
Would be great to see the Heritage out again, maybe the 6 inch with the WMR cylinder and see what the long barrel does with that. I love hearing the four clicks on the hammer on those.
I wasn't even aware the WMP existed, so I learned something right from the thumbnail. Also great to see these rounds working so well even from such a tiny firearm as the Barkeep.
Nice. It was just released a few weeks ago. I did a little range review vid here if you haven't seen it.😎👍 ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J7q8apmWR8c.html
My pistol wouldn’t feed reliable and jammed nonstop. I had fail to fires and fail to ejects as well. The magazines wiggle up and down over a quarter inch when locked in place causing feeding issues. It was verified by my local gunsmith. Sent the video to Walther and was told it wasn’t correct and to get it back in for service. No calls or emails from Walther. I called last week to ask where my pistol was again. I was told they were waiting for a barrel since I asked it they could either refinish the bare metal it wore down to from a 125 rounds. I was told the pistol was going to be replaced of the barrel didn’t show up by last Thursday. I called yesterday to asked where my pistol was again since a week has gone by. I was told now that I didn’t need a barrel and nothing is wrong with my pistol. Walther said they tested it and is sending it back as it was sent in. Got in an argument with them about the the lie of barrel and gun replacement and asked for a complete replacement as promised. I was hung hung up on and called back for for a call back from someone else higher up on the food chain . No calls back but an email showing I can return it to Walther for a refund within 30 days. I Called and was told I had to wait for it to be returned and then re rend it back in for a refund. What a joke. Walther customer service is awful. That’s my first and last Walther. Show less
What finally happened, did you get a refund? [been a year] I guess Walther forgot 007 is gone and no longer promoting them, and now there are many other options.
@@jonaozo540 took almost 6 months to get a refund check. I see they are offering Leypold Sun glasses and q discount now if you buy one. What does that tell you on a new release?????? They are trying to bail out and re coop their costs on the 🍋
I got a WMP recently as well, and picked up a case of the FTX 45gr ammo today. Looks like a perfect match! Thanks for the review! That Barkeep looks cool. I want a s&w stainless d/a revolver for my Pireaux!
@@ToolsandTargets I have a "Bianchi M12" holster on the way. Should fit. Hope it fits my PPQ Navy too. The Bianchi UM84/92 is a little smaller and fits PMR30 and G19. Nice OWB flap/duty holsters.
I would like to see how a lead round nose competes with these hollow points to get into the 15-18" zone. I'd also like to see the .22wmr gold dot protection for short barrel, which was my preference for CC. I think if this does not beat .22LR punch, it is not adequate.
When I shot my WMP on Monday the Critical Defense worked perfectly. I also ran the Federal Premium 30 grain Speer TNT. I know that's not great for your night vision in the dark out of pistol what with the fireball that came out of it, but it seems like it would be a good defensive round in a pinch. I am already carrying the WMP. It works with both Crossbreed holsters I have for my Walther PDP. I also have some Speer Gold Dot and Federal Game Shock 50 grain that I haven't ran thru it yet but I'm sure they'll do great. All of the rounds I mention run great in my PMR-30 and CMR-30 so I'm getting stocked up on all of them if I can find them.
Thanks for the video. I have some of this ammo, but I couldn't bring myself to shoot it at paper targets. The chrono and jelly tests are greatly appreciated. My stepmother will never pick up anything, but the Heritage Rough Rider 4.5" , 9 shot, so this is not a joke.
Impressed that the round mushroomed and remained bonded. I like your WMP. I have a collection of AMT Automag II 22WMR and they are fun to shoot. My RIA 1911 XT 22WMR is an excellent gun too. Just can’t find extra mags for it 😒
I’ve been looking for these rounds for a long time. Just came from the shop with a pack. Finally !!! Thanks Tools !!! PS. I carry the Smith revolver: 7 shot.
Good day Tools! Good video buddy. I will be getting the WMP for a tool to carry along with me. Great gel test on the ammo. Did you try any of the 30gr. Ballistic tips yet out of the WMP. Thanks and keep up the good work?
Man another great video. I LOVE .22 mag. But I only have rifles except for the Ruger single action I forgot about. But keep them coming. I still want to see that .50 desert eagle slap the jelly.
Favorite rimfire caliber. Barkeep for loss of pressure did good. Walther for 50 ftlbs more didn't do much better. With fmj flat tip both might surprise us. Good comparison.
@@ToolsandTargets Biggest difference is capacity & ease of reloading. I would rather go down with an empty good looking Barkeep than a chunk of plastic half empty. 😂😂
I'd hit the LIKE button 3 times if I could. I like the performance out of that Walther. I wonder the speeds you would get if you used a 35 grain CCI? Great vid all the same.
@@ToolsandTargets A man of the people! 👏👏. No rush on that brother. We know you're a busy guy. Especially the last few weeks it seems like you've been putting out more content for us jelly heads! Thanks for all your efforts 👍👍
Hey tools. Picked up a p322 today. Shot some Herters hollow points through it to get rid of them because they are Winchesters. I instantly thought of you.
Well Bl, wish you had a Pmr-30. The Bar keep not a fair test. I'm good with my Pmr-30, Humm, so I don't have to buy another pistol. Truth if a long fight with many badies, the Walther heavy barrel will stay in fight, when the pencil Pmr-30 maybe not. Thanks Tools
