VN24 - 23.06.2021 - Dortmund / Germany - In the early morning at about 04:30, there was a rupture of a major transport water pipe on Hagener Straße in Dortmund. Within seconds, the road was washed out over a length of at least 20 meters, causing hollows to form. According to reports, a cab driver had warned the driver of an articulated bus, but he obviously could not be stopped from driving through the outflowing masses of water. The bus, which weighed about 17 tons, promptly collapsed into the road and hit the underside along its entire length. There was neither forward nor backward, the bus got stuck. Since no one could say how far the road surface was washed out, a 100-ton crane had to lift the bus out of a nearby side street with a correspondingly wide outreach, so the bus could be freed from its position by a tow car and towed away. There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the incident. The driver escaped uninjured. The recovery operation lasted well into the afternoon.
