230k Mile Acura RSX Gets First Ever Clutch Replacement!

In todays video we replaced the clutch for the first time EVER on my silver acura rsx after 230k miles. Im glad I was able to do this clutch replacement myself along with my brother. Not only did it save me a lot of money but, it also gave me a lot of knowledge and familiarity with the RSX platform.

That's awesome of your brother to help you out. I figured it was him even before you said. I remember the video when you had the engine dropped off at his shop. I think that was for the red Type-S?

Yes it was and I agree 100%. The entire future of the red rsx build will be pretty much supported by him and just forever grateful🙏

The clutch was changed before. Organic material clutch disks do not last long. From inspection it looks like the clutch had about 20k miles on it. It still had material left over.

I can guarantee you it hasn't been changed. My brother owned it since 100k miles and I've owned it since 180k.

How did you mount your trans in? I had to lower the car on the lift and bench press it myself, but i did use the jack stand methods to reinstall the subframe back. Clean RSX btw

Sorry I didn't cover a lot of that. We used a jack under the trans to get it in and out. It's a bit of a trick getting it in as the trans has to be sideways and always wants to lay flat on the jack. Just takes a lot of finicking. Pretty much I was pumping up and down the jack while my brother was jerking around the trans to get it aligned properly. Took us a few trys, I'm sure there are better ways but that's what we did. Appreciate the love man🔥

Subframe removal Save yourself the headache of not doing this step. Makes it much easier

Don't remove the subframe? How you get the trans out otherwise unless you lift it through the top?

Im just curious if you replaced the racing bearing? If it needs to be replaced: usually?, never? On stock/oem applications; thanks for the video

When you say racing bearing are you referring to the throwout bearing or pilot bushing by chance? Both were replaced in this video.

Yeah np man. The exedy clutch kit even includes the pilot bushing but it's like $5 irregardless your right there so might as well change it

I had to do a motor swap and I thought I torqued those flywheel and pressure plate bolts , I found out when my flywheel got separated and my car was not turning over so good. I broke a pressure plate bolt last week and I put it back together like that, I’m gonna order a set of new bolts and warranty my clutch again 😭

@@illusiversx so after the motor swapped it took about a month and a half , I even took the car to Vegas and back no issues , but after Vegas weekend is when the flywheel started to act up

Throw out bearing is one thing, might as replace the clutch while in there, input shaft bearing in the transmission is a whole other can of worms.. 😢😂 Rebuild or find a used transmission.

I've got a 235kmi '06 RSX base that started making a metallic noise when the clutch is depressed. Enough rubbing that it will stall. Seems bearing related. Transmission shifts 'ok', syncros little rough, but normal for the mileage. Is that a throwout bearing failure or maybe also input shaft?

Ever? For one there's no way of saying ever. If you really want the whole story for what I can guarantee is my brother owned it since 100k and I've owned it since 170k. Hasn't been changed in that time period and 1 previous owner never changed it as well.
