I work for a pest control company and I have a hint for you. When you are staying in a hotel/motel, place your bags in the shower/tub and check the beds for bedbugs.
Hola! This is hilarious, my sister and I stayed at this same place during a university break in 1987. It wasn't all inclusive then, hardly any places were. Cancun was just up and coming tourist place then, Playa del Carmen and the Riviera Maya were not developed, miles and miles of jungle. My sister and I got Montezuma's revenge there and were sicker than I've ever been in my life for 3 days and 3 nights. We finally got out to get some antibiotics and started to get well again. Weak and dehydrated like beyond belief. The beach was crappy then and still is. The first double room you walked in looked exactly the same as when my sister and I stayed there for 2 weeks. Stay safe and enjoy travelling!! 😎🦩🐬🌺🌴🍹
As someone who knows Cancun from its very beginning and has lived there for extended periods of time, I could recognize the hotel you're talking about right away. First of all, the property is quite old, probably over 40 years old, and has never been a luxury resort. I personally have never heard a positive comment about the hotel, it is widely considered cheap and crappy... There are many great hotels in the Mexican Caribbean, but in the end, you get what you pay.
nah.... being cheap is not an excuse for trash food... many hotels around the world are very cheap with great food and clean... mexico is getting behind...
As far as the food being cold- it probably hadn't been cooked for hours but prepared only a short time before. It doesn't take food long to get cold if its sitting and not staying steadily warmed. At a buffet, you should never get the first food put out. Always wait until it gets busier and they start refilling/replacing pans of food. That stuff will be put out as soon as it was cooked, meaning you'll actually get some fresh hot food. This goes for every buffet- even at restaurants where the food is hot, it's not necessarily fresh and can be dried out from sitting awhile. If it's busy, they're replacing more often and generally preparing more as they go along.
My flight back home was cancelled and we were placed in this resort overnight until the next flight. This is the most disgusting place I’ve ever been in. Everyone on the flight I was on slept in the lobby as the rooms were unusable. The entire place reeked of vomit and there was trash everywhere. I can’t believe people would actually pay to stay here. I couldn’t even last a night.
Oh and none of the bars or restaurants served water. Wth is up with that. We had to beg the staff in the front desk and they were able to do us a favour and provided us their own bottled waters. WHAT? Why was water so inaccessible lol
I will be at Finest Playa Mujeres for a wedding next year, so I'm perusing RU-vid to check out the hotel. Your post caught my eye. Thanks for the heads up!😉
It’s amazing, we stayed on the adults side in an Ocean view suite, it had a massive balcony and Jacuzzi plus premium spirts. The beach was also lovely, it’s in a gated community which has the Excellence and Beloved resorts inside too. We loved it but it was in 2019 but we’re going to TRS Coral in early November. Personally we love Sandals and Secrets resorts.
I had this feeling when I saw the reviews what hotel it would be and I was spot on. Didn’t even stay there, my sisters and I did one of the boats that sail from that “beach” and we were turned off by the hotel. Thanks for doing the dirty work for everyone else!
I don't play when it comes to food safety! As an adult, if I get food poisoning, I have to deal with it! I have to nurse myself back to health, I have to waste my vacation days sick, it's all on me! So don't feel bad about being picky about food temps!
We love that you did this !! So many times people make things out to be what they are not … I would still probably not stay somewhere like this but I absolutely love that you checked it out for yourself! Do more of these ! Love it !! ❤😊
I stayed there when I went on vacation with friends in college. At the time years ago, it was decent for being a college student, but now I would NEVER!!!!! 😂
I didn’t see where you named the place? My family is going to be at the crown paradise in about a month. Our first time in Cancun. Hopefully it will be a great experience. Thanks cheers
My brother in law has told me that negative online reviews are exaggerated but … not always. Bedbugs are the worst. I reckon they are a rite of passage for anyone who travels for any length of time, however. I don’t reckon you can avoid running into one or two, although they do travel in packs and where there is one there are thousands more, whilst you are travelling.
Lloyd and Mandy, a “flop house” is American slang (understood elsewhere, though, too) for somewhere where street people used to go to flop (you know, have a sleep) for the night. Think of a men’s or women’s shelter as being a flop house. A flop house is even lower rated than a hostel and far less cleanly, as well. Ugh, all round I would say.
I'm a retired flight attendant and have gotten bittenby bed bugs at a Marriott. One flight attendant brought home bed bugs from the hotel. They took over her house. They were everywhere..They exterminated and threw out her stuff. Be careful
There are many so called resorts in Cancun that were build in the 80s-90s and never renovated, if you want to go to a great resort, its better to go to the mayan riviera, more room for more activities and great food...
please keep this up, do not use that resort, last month i went with my wife and we got robbed there, it was the worst vacation of my life, one person broke into our room (main ground) trough the slidding door, the resort had security but i think no one was watching they could only check the cameras 8 hours later of what happened, ill be uploading a video, its been one month and we still havent received fully the money of our belongings stolen. DO NOT USE THIS RESORT i made a police report and until now its nothing, ive been ghosted for a week and its been one month since the theft i booked trough expedia and when confronting them, expedia said they can issue a 100 dollar cupon, and thats it i tried to be as safe as possible and yet still happened, i wasnt flauting, phone showing the less time possible, money separated, yet within 20/25 min out of our room we got robbed, trust no one please !!!
Yes I uploaded a video about it, just put the resort name and u should be able to find (copy of the report is there too) thank you for not deleting my comment, it’s been a stressful time for us 😞
I knew exactly where you guys were going when you started reading the reviews because I just read them about a week ago 😂 I didn't book it but I know that it's close to other places where you can get decent food, it's on the bus line, and close to the ferry. I'm happy that you all gave it a shot. There aren't many recent videos on the place. I would probably still stay there if I wanted a quick weekend trip but just not pay extra for "all inclusive".
When I stay at a resort or hotel, I always check the sheets at the bottom of the bed. I've stayed in a couple of places where the fitted sheet had filth on the bottom of it due to the linen not being changed YUK!!!!!!😱
I know this place!!! It hasn't changed! The time we were there, I was charged $50 US cash for room incidentals. At the end of the trip they gave us our money back...in Pesos ...at their exchange rate saying they didn't have $50 U.S...but just before that the front desk person was about to refund our money in US dollars, until the manager stopped her. Staff were good people! Management was horrible.
If you travel only to sit in a hotel and eat their food then sure, but many of us travel to immerse ourselves in the other country and so the hotel is a place to sleep and that's it.
Thanks for your brave decision to forgo comfort, cleanliness (yikes--bedsheet stains!) and cold, mysterious foods. I appreciate that you both were willing to be optimistic and open-minded from the get-go! Glad you didn't have to suffer any bedbugs!
I think it must be Al Ritmo. It was absolutely awful. When we asked to cancel the pre-paid days after less than an hour there, they told us they could not do anything about it because we paid thru a third party booking site. The food was awful, the staff were mean, the AC was broken where the "free entertainment" was and the water slides were broken down. Plus it was an expensive taxi ride into town to get some real breakfast, despite the fact that their gross food was included in the price of our stay.
This video came up a suggestion. After watching, you have a new sub!!!! I love your perspective on what you seeing & how you are looking for the positives!!!! Yes, there are negatives to this place, but you managed to show certain scenes, that made it LOOK like a cool little nook! Major bummer on the noise! Sleep is an important factor when booking a room!!!!!
I rarely do all inclusive We love to explore and try new places Unless the resort has at least 3 restaurants then you will be eating the same food No Bueno 😊 lower budget means more party people lol Was this hotel Imperial Las perlas My girlfriend and I stayed there I paid a tip at check in an got a nice room with living room kitchenette and separate bedroom nice balcony facing the ocean. Thanks for sharing I love Cancun good luck in the future!!
by 8:56 Im already out the door. It looks like a hostel. And thats bad. I once stayed in a hotel in Singapore called the Hotel Garden Inn and it was three lies for the price. So far this one lives up to the bill and Im just past the Squarespace ad
While traveling with personal pillow, might it be more hygienic to place it in a protective plastic bag? Rather than wheel it thru airports, lug it about publicly .. plus, it's not a quality pillow. One can tell.
I looked this place up on tripadvisor, and it looks like it's around $60-70 a night. Not sure if that includes the 'all inclusive' package. But I'd say it's really made for the locals and not tourists from America.
You are absolutely not being picky!!! I would feel the exact same way! This place is terrible. I wouldn't even be able to sleep with the stained sheets.
Hi guys sry about the dismal time at the hotel just a note on the cold food could have been the steam tables not working or no sternos to keep the food warm
Props to you for staying there, the food alone made me want to run away and I'm only looking at it through video! I could see this being a very budget stay for a night or two if you were trying to travel around and see as much of Mexico on a budget but even then I'm sure there's better for a similar price!
That place looks like 1 star Motel 5 lol. I was in Mexico first time with a friend in July we stayed at Barcelo Maya Palace. After watching your vlog it beats every place I’ve stayed in the Caribbean out out of the water. Wanted to ask what do you use to edit videos? I vlogged my trip to Barcelo and want to put it up on my channel but having a hard time with editing I am new at the vlogging entirely. Right now I been using imovie on my ipad. But I realize I filmed some clips I keep turning the camera. I am trying to turn the clips so they all are the same direction but haven’t been able to figure out how yet its not working.
When people party in the hall and wake you up. Get up early and bang on their doors in the morning or put the 'MAKE UP ROOM' sign on their doors and notify the maid service.
Don’t worry so much about bed bugs. Those resorts all use copious amounts of aluminum phosphide, so no worries (just pay attention if your finger nails turn black).
As far as the "ocean smell"- that's going to be pretty much anywhere on the coast. It's worse at certain times of the year and in certain weather conditions, like when it's hotter and more humid. It can be strong one day, light the next and gone the next day, only to come back stronger than before the next day. It's not really just specific sections that have issues with sea grass and seaweed- even in areas where it doesn't grow out in the water (even far out where it can wash in), storms well off the coast can get everything stirred up and it can wash ashore wherever, depending on currents and tides and if the storm travels inland, etc. Where I live in Florida, we have seaweed at random times all through spring and summer- it's funny because tourists will complain that "it wasn't like this last year. This is gross. We'll go somewhere else in Florida next year". Good luck- anyplace can get a wash of seaweed. We do get what we call June grass, which is long sea grass that washes up thick around June (i guess it has to do with its growing cycle).
The Hotel Imperial Las Perlas is at a different level than many resorts. Still, they lose because they need to improve at keeping things simple while providing quality-driven accommodation. Cheap should not mean poor services and accommodations.
Last time I went to Cancun we went to Eldorado something for it honeymoon. They put us in a cheap room & took two days to give us what we paid for, on the last night they have us or free welcoming Champaign, it was difficult to get a reservation at the 8 restaurants the room service was nasty & child. We went on a paid outing to the beach & them the town but they left use on the beach for 6 hours & not the town where I wanted to go, during that time we were robbed in the hotel room, they took cash, drugs, clothes & a carton of cigarettes. Then we were there for 8 nights & several times a day we would be stored to join s club your the hotel. Beautiful hotel with the worst service I've ever experienced.
You should have booked one on Isla Mujeres, a 15 minute ferry ride away. We were at the north of the island and it was a great all inclusive resort. Extremely clean!
What an experience...lol How much are you paying for this resort compared to the other resort you stayed recently? The lady in the restaurant seemed customer service friendly - did you ask her to heat the food up for you and did you ask to have the linen changed ? I am assuming the beer was cold 🍺🍺 lol I haven't been to Mexico so enjoying the channel and look forward to your next adventure 👍
I like that you guys are trying the budget places to stay. As always the video was good and I like to see a video like this in all the big vacations area. I have also notices that you guys are adding the song names in the last couple of videos. Maybe you can add the date range of each video as well.
Bwahahaha! I am an American that lives in Merida and I can tell you, Mexicans LOVE their hotdogs!!! When I saw the title of this video I was sure that you guys were going to be staying at the Crystal, I have to admit, this one is much worse 😂. Y'all are some brave souls! 😂😂😂
I know ya all travel around a lot but have you never encountered bed bugs before they can get in your clothes and you can transport them b careful they are awful and horribly hard to get rid of
wow I stayed in cancun years and years ago. very quickly moved south. Most resorts down there are simiular price and are WAY Way better. Loved the vid.
I think you were perfectly reasonable and I really wouldn't have given it a good review although the service staff seemed nice. You were brave to go there in the first place after reading those reviews.
If I was alone, I could stay there. I just would not eat there. For the money I saved I could get a decent meal off campus. A flop house is where you go if you have little money and just looking for a place to sober up. Thanks for the review.
