I have a soft spot for Del Sol's from my grandfather's 96 S manual, he got it right at that age where I was just super excited about ANY car, and here was this little funky manual transmission thing with a lift-off roof and a sweet feeling cockpit, and I loved it. I loved that my grandfather loved it, when he otherwise suffered with depression...and how one day in his early 80s he told me about the time he got it up to 110 MPH with a twinkle in his eye. I ended up helping someone (who I really didn't actually like at all, long story) buy my grandfather's car after he died, and was super glad when it ended up in the hands of someone else way cooler who was going to do a crazy turbo build on it. Last I saw it it was in his garage on stands with no cylinder head because it was off somewhere getting built, and he was walking me though his build plan...he seemed to be targeting huge power, like 500 crank...wonder whatever came of that car?
Mid Night CS I just picked one up in February, 1993 Si, totally stock. I'm gonna keep it close to stock for now, and really plan any modifications I do to not fuck it up.
These ads are almost more entertaining than the actual one takes sometimes. Just the anticipation of what new thing will pop up and what kind of pitch we'll get
Living in New Zealand we are spoilt for JDM imports, I'll always remember the first time I saw a Delsol with the electric top, a teacher at my high school had one and every day weather permitting she'd put the top down. They are so awesome!
I remember seeing a swapped Del Sol back in 98-99 at one of my very first import tuner shows I attended. I cant recall what swap it was but I think it was the DOHC Civic Si engine. This was well before the swap craze. It was crazy to see, at least to me. Thanks for sharing. This brings back great memories of my late teens.
That's what I thought at first, but at least the weight's in just about the best possible place. Plus it's still a fairly light car and clearly he wanted this to be more than just a track car. I wouldn't have done it, but more power to the owner for doing something unique.
Meh, I doubt he uses it only on the track, and it's a very unique mod to see...I dig it. Also...with the power it has...the weight is like any of the newer "hot hatches"...3000 lbs and 250+ horsepower is still good stuff! It would be a strict track car at 2300 lbs (my guess on a track prepped Del Sol) and this power level. I am biased though cause I just love these cars...one of the most unique cars you can see regularly on the road. I'd love one...but I'd put a K-series in the back of it...
I could care less about the ads...get RU-vid Red people and FF. But in all seriousness, Matt is just an awesome dude to watch and you can see he generally LOVES automobiles. Respect Matt. Keep on doing what you're doing bro!
I love how, unless you’re a fabricator by trade, that sounds like a lot of work. Cutting and reading like this is really only a days worth of work. But this is a bad ass build. I remember watching this years ago. When it first came out and before I became an HVAC system fabricator. And these days, 400hp is low.
this guy has a huge smile because he put so much work on this awesome car. unlike the other videos, car owners are emo because they paid 10x more than this De La soul and this guys having way more fun. Here comes the quote, built not bought.
Del Sols are wonderful little cars. I've had mine for like 13 years now. Although it's the VTEC model, not the SI that comes with the B16. Also - the 1992 model cars can be imported whole now with the transtop so it's much cheaper to have one.
I'm 6'2" and I love my delsol it fits me perfect. I have a friend who's 6'4" and 350 lbs and he fits in his too. Miatas are wayyyyyy smaller when it comes to space in the cabin and trunk. Delsols win all day.
did anyone else notice he gets the most satisfaction when driving tuned Hondas... just watch the other Hondas on this channel ..I'm not being biased even tho i drive a 8th gen
If I had a nickle for every time I heard "the s2000 is the only honda I like" I'd be able to buy a second s2000. If you say that, then you've probably not ridden in many hondas. As someone who has, and someone who owns an s2000, the best part about the s2000 is the 9k RPM limit in the ap1, which 9.5 can be obtained by b18's and k's. You want RWD and a honda? Then the only option is the s2000 and that's the only thing that is truely unique to the s2000 and honda. Point is, it's stupid to say that the only honda you like is a s2000. Just say you like the s2000! It's a backslap to all the other hondas to say the s2000 is the only honda you like, as if it's the defining car for Honda... it's not! How many people say, "yeah, the corvett is the only chevy I like" or "yeah, I only like the r34 Skylines from nissan, all other nissans are trash". Like stfu. Go ride in a stripped out k swapped hatch and tell me you dont like it. Smh
@@USA_djhiggi77 I have ridden in one as a guy in my auto tech class in high school had one, it sounds like shit, rattles like shit, but its light weight and handles good. But the first too make me not like it. That aside, I said I like two Hondas and even if I only liked the S2000 it still makes perfect sense to say "the S2000 is the only Honda I like" because it denotes two things, I like this one named car, and I don't like any other car that manufacture makes. If you just said "I like the S2000" then you don't know if I like other Hondas or not.
@@Zankaroo "sounds like shit and rattled like shit, the first two made me not like it" Then you wouldnt like an s2000 then because its still has the honda sounds that your buddies hatch had and the interior rattles too considering theyre 20 year old cars, many with over 100k miles on them... smh you make 0 sense. Your buddies car with a fart can is not indicative of all hondas, and if you dont like rattles, then buy a newer car or a car with lower miles. Those two issues can easily be fixed. Youre going base YOUR ENTIRE OPINION OF HONDAS on your buddies one car you rode in 3 YEARS AGO and this video? Smh go get in a fucking s2000 and you'll have the same criticisms. Stock for stock, the s2000 sounds the same, so dont look up videos of modified F series engine noises to prove your point and if you do, look up modified b series and k series engines and theyll make the same noise, it just has a higher rev limit which people fawn over and it doesnt matter what car we're talking about, rattles will come with time. Your car right now probably has rattles in it. Litterally 0 sense
@@USA_djhiggi77 Not all old cars rattle, but one that is stripped will. It actually made perfect sense, just because you have none doesn't mean it doesn't make sense, good day and fuck off, good sir.
Matt's promo have been getting better and better. Makes this guy seem like he's into everything. Watches, websites, ball chaffing powder, sunglasses. And to think I came here just to look at awesome cars. lol
Let's face it the CRX del sol was never a super light car to begin with given when it was produced. It's not heavy by today's standards, but still isn't the lightest car on the road. I totally agree with a built B20 though, it's a great motor to start a build on and I'd love to get my hands on a B20 powered del sol, just not a turbo. The rood is stupid and yet I really love it. There's something endearing about this little Honda and the video just makes me smile.
While this isnt a stock example, the del sol has always been the red headed step child of the honda world. Personally, im a sucker for anything with a targa top and a power rear window. Ive owned 2 del sols and while neither were si's, I found them to be sufficiently fun.
I had a d16z6 turbo delsol. It was a menace to dsm and sti guys. It was my meanest build and with the smallest engine I've tried to improve, in a car anyway.
b20vtec setups are bad ass. everyone thinks the stock sleeves are super week and can't hold power but they can. the rest of the b series do have thicker sleeves.but b20s can hold decently on a conservative tune.
Great guy, cool unique car. I really enjoyed how this guy spoke confidently about his shops strengths and weaknesses (ex. They didn't do the dash...) and he never bullshitted. That's how you build credibility. He Kept the cooling temp discussion in laymans terms. Rub is ignored because track car and it was minimal.
uk model's came with the same roof. well everyone I've seen has. such a cool roof for such a crapper of a standard car. this one being reviewed is awesome btw.
I have a 97 del sol I'm wanting to put 15k or so into it. I'll never get rid of her. Great inspiration. Buts completely stock and I don't even know where to start.
My uncle promised me his del sol when I was a kid. I thought about it all the time I was so excited to get it. Finally turned 17 and the fucker sold it on me a month before my birthday..
So apparently he also has a Supra, a GTR, an RX7 and a Golf GTI and he spent over 50 grand to mod the beat up Honda he had as his first car. Chances are he has high horsepower on one or two of his cars. I respect not throwing away that Honda, it shows some character. So what if it isn't that light? 260 wheel with that weight is around what a modern compact sports car has. He didn't go the best power to weight route, he had other plans. Still it must be great fun to drive as Matt demonstrated.
That watch would be awesome since I'm allergic to all kinds of metal. I haven't worn a watch since I was in elementary school. Awesome video by the way!
