Early storms were expected to clear and then the heating of a very warm and humid airmass was expected to trigger further storms, but the chance was dependent on this heating. If surface heating could happen then it looked likely that storms were likely to produce very high rainfall rates and the risk of flooding.
It looked as though the Midlands would be the focus of todays storms and so I headed towards Staffordshire just as the first of the storms started breaking out on a hot and humid afternoon. I was soon chasing some torrential storms which resulted in a lot of flooding, before heading home for something more local.
