Thanks a lot for explaining this. This is one of those things that everybody tells you to do but nobody ever explain how to do. Very informative and in depth.

I do balance the blades mounted in the bladegrips ( tighting strong, so they do not flap) and with the complete head assembly (of course without swash and links), I try to balance them on the mainshaft with the mainshaft bearings because it's possible that the grips, or the axial-bearings are not correctly symetric. then by tilting the heli 90°, I can balance them under running conditions. of course you can do it your way before and check the difference afterwards. by doing this, I got the best results. thank's for your detailed clip!

Hi EVERYTHING cpo may I suggest a: when you bolt the blades together do it so they are MATCHED ie: leading edge UP on both sides not the way they will be on the heli - you are giving yourself a balancing error right there.... also, $$$$ for the heli but not a dime on a proper blade balance unit..???

Good job, now i can do this and get my trex 250 blades sorted. Because my helicopter vibrates like mad with the new blades. And not with my old blades. Thanks!

Little late to say You missed one very important 1st step. Weigh the blades and find the weight difference between both blades before you find the CG of each blade.

brilliant. now if only i could find a screw and bolt small enough for my trex 250 blades, bent my blade balancer when it had a vice fall ontop of it :/

Does the distance of the blade grip hole from the leading edge indicate the "y-axis" component of the cg?

Can not understand the point of the blade center of gravity. For me as long as they're balanced with each other, they're perfect. But I would really like if someone could explain me what difference does the center of gravity between the blades.

Hello, Great video, only one question why do you balance the blades like they are on the heli ? If you don't (and turn one upside down, both of them will make 1 straight line which can easily be made by putting them on a straight surface. Secondly you can use a laser leveler or something to see the perfect alignment. Do you see a disadvantage ? A rookie who has discoverd that with "real" balancing tools you even need 3 full glasses to calm down your frustration.
@EVERYTHINGcpo
@EVERYTHINGcpo 10 лет назад
You could definitely take all of this to the extreme. Laser level would work if done properly...but might be over kill. I put them like they are on the heli just to remove any bias in weighting from either side of the chord. Probably doesn't really matter. These days...honestly, I mostly just check the quick balance to see if their CG is about the same, and if so, just check their weights on the scale and add tape at the CG point of the light one until it matches the heavier one. I haven't done the full balancing very much lately, and everything seems to be working fine.

+EVERYTHING cpo "I put them like they are on the heli just to remove any bias in weighting" -- no, that way you are introducing bias to the system, the trailing edge side will always seem heavier although it might not be - think about it, your way the extra weight is now above the balancing point....

Hi CPO. I have found this belancing system very easy to follow. But I have found when I have got them on the two glasses, If I turn them upside down the ammount of weight i need changes. Have you found this and if so what way do you go for the way that needs more weight or less.

Hello question on quality of blades. I have a 450 size heli and I was wondering on brands that work well without spending a lot on blades. What is your experience on blades?

Hi CPO i have a question I watched this video trying to understand how to get cg and balance. Did it just like you show here! you explain things great! the only difference is i have a blade balancer so i used it to balance the blades seems to me that would throw off the cg so i rechecked the cg and its off a little should i worry about that or did i do something wrong?
@EVERYTHINGcpo
@EVERYTHINGcpo 10 лет назад
I am not sure I understand your question. But...if the CG is off just a little, it will probably be fine. If it's way off, you may see tracking issues (guessing). Regardless of whether you are using a blade balancer or some other DIY method, if you apply your weight (tape) at the approximate CG point on the blade you should be fine, tho.

@@EVERYTHINGcpo I thing that balance blades on glasses is enough, because center of gravity will corrected too in this way and you will have only one tape. Why you need balance cg separately?

Centre of gravity importance is a myth. Heli will fly on one blade and a piece of lead on the other blade holder. Centre of gravity wildly different, but so long as the moment force is the same, heli will fly fine (less lift with one blade of course) Just use the balancer. Also have leading edge on the same side. It is very important that blades are precisely in line on the balancer. This is easy, just press the two leading edges up against a table edge or whatever. No problem if the blades are not exactly perpendicular to balancer axis, so long as they are in line. Out of line, one will effectively have a different moment arm…. Bad. It’s all physics.
