Hey Guys, our new adventure is to see if we can lower the front of my Fargo by about 3 inches.
I don't know what I am doing, so your advice would help.

Everything Will Go Up With No Problem!!! The Curved Arm Attached To The Spindle Will Go Up With The Axle!!! The Arm Attached To The Steering Arm Will Just Twist At The Ball Joint!!! NOTHING NEEDS CUT OR HEATED AND BENT!!! The Only Thing Is If The Steering Arm Hits The Axle When The Steering Is Turned To Lock!!! Just Get It On Top Of The Spring And See What Hits And Then Figure Out How To Solve It!!! Just Get It Switched!!! Keep Rocking It Out Brother!!!

Hey Pat. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. OK. I will do that and see what happens. If something binds or hits, we will deal with it them. Thanks Brother.

Hey Andy if you put the axle on top of your leaf springs it looks like the tie rod will hit the leaf springs. Pitman arm is what comes off the steering box then goes to the drag link then goes to the steering bracket which goes to the spindle. Looks like you could heat and bend the steering bracket but it just might hit the shock. You might look in to seeing if you could find some drop spindles. Not sure if they make any for that axle you have somebody might make them. That would be the easiest to drop the front end. Maybe Pat are Bob might have a good idea. Good luck with it Andy! take care👍🏻

Hey Chris. I think we have a handle on it. Now it looks good on paper, but we still have to start tearing it apart. Wish me luck Brother.

My first thought was modify the spring shackles. Don't think you'd be altering the steering as much. Look forward to see what you finally do. Be safe and stay well.

Hey Andy that’s going to be a tuff one. I would agree with Matt The Scrap Comment about moving your spring shackles up two inches. Will need to modify them or make new ones but I really think that would be the easiest. Definitely going to have to study this one out. Good luck on it my friend. I just had my Chevy lowered and that’s all they did to the back was put 4 inch lowering shackles on it which moved the springs up. They put 2 inch drop spindles on front. Hopefully somebody out there has done this and can help. 👍😎✌️

Hey Kevin. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House.. That's an idea as well. We will figure soething out I hope.

Hey Andy you will really have to watch the angle of the drag link (the one that runs front to back) if it's not level at ride height you will get lots of bump steer. Plus you may have clearance problems with the oil pan.

Buy or make drop spindles to lower the front if you want it dropped to level it up and get what you want. Or get custom springs. Want low it is either pay or fabrication time 😅
@613Builds

The axle flip would be very drastic , you’d be going down probably 5 or 6 inches on center. That seems like a bit much 🤷🏽‍♂️ I think you did a good move on the rear by pulling out some leafs, maybe do the same up front. Looks like you could afford to lose one or two upfront. If you go too low it might be tricky to get the truck on the hoist. Either way it’s a cool truck you guys are doing. Just my opinions. Keep up the good work guys

Hey John. I tried to pull more leafs from the front when I started but The leafs were bending down. So I can't take any more that I have.

I have to defer to Arco on that one....You might look at moving your spring shackles up. You will have to modify, or make new ones. I think that would be the simplest, but I would give Arco a shout.

Straight axles are a bit tricky to do this with. The Steering Arm (that comes off the spindle) is up high like that to clear the tie rod as it goes back, also this truck has "shallow caster" to make it easier to steer with manual steering, so be really careful changing that drag link angle as it will lead to the dreaded "Bump Steer" (when you hit a bump it will steer by itself as you hold the steering wheel straight) if you take it out of it's plane of travel. With it up in the air like that, it's not on load, and it looks like you are pretty tight to the frame rail if you set the beam on top of the springs, and that will cut your travel WAY down making it bottom out really easy. This is a head scratcher man. If it was a Ford or a Chevy, I'd say stick a Drop Axle in it, but this is a Mopar and I don't believe they offer those..... and finding someone that can "heat press" it make it into a drop axle is going to be tough on that one.... I don't know...... Mopar's are tricky when it comes to this because the box is up front, and the tie rod is in the rear...... I'll have to think about this one for a bit..... And its easy to do, because I have one in the back yard as well... lol

Hey Bare. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. I didn't think it was going to be a piece of cake. I don't want to spend cash 💲💲on this drop, but if I can't do it, then I will just leave it. Thanks, Brother.👍👍

I read all the comments Andy and I'm kinda thinking like Rocker Pat. Try it out and see what happens. If it doesn't work then you can always go back and regroup. Then try a different idea. Maybe raising the shackles might work. Either way I'd try whichever one is easiest.

Hey Andy sure by now you got lots of advice. An axle flip is going to bring the front down a lot. If you going to stay with a straight axle, do some research. See if anyone makes a drop axle or spindles. Maybe move the spring purchase. If your truly looking to come down 6 or 7 inches, I think I would start looking at an IFS . I

Hey Joe. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. Yeah, I've been getting some ideas for sure. I need to do this drop on the cheap. My pension barely feeds me. I am looking for about a 3-inch drop. It is still in the thinking stage. I just don't feel like working in the shop these days. Hopefully, next week I can get my ass in gear.

Still leaf springs im assuming. I had new front leafs made with eyes going down and rubber bushings. Took lots of fab work to build the rear spring mounts. Read where someone removed front main leaf and flipped it over. The arc forced the other springs down and eyes would end up below. Bet you end up with well over 2” drop. 69 dart rear shocks. So all you need is new centre bolts and shocks. I dont recall if i did a detailed video on my front suspension. Are the front/rear mounts steel on steel? Getting them apart may be a little challenging.
@AndysDogHouse
@AndysDogHouse Год назад
Hey Frank.Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. When I first started this build, I reversed the leafs and I didn't like them pointing down. So I put them back. There use to be 10 leafs per side and I now took it down to 4 leafs.
@franksgarage8551
@franksgarage8551 Год назад
@@AndysDogHouse you only flip the main leaf. Have to take spring pack apart. Cut the clamps off and remove center pin/bolt. Flipping the whole works? Never heard of that.

Hey Dog , yes its lower in the rear , but to see how much the difference is , you might take a line from right above the headlight to the back of the bed a measure up from the center of the wheels , don’t know if that’s the right way , what do you think about that, catch you soon buddy😆😢
