I am restoring a 1954 Dodge Fargo 1/2 ton and a 1940 Buick Special super EIGHT. It's all about having fun. I am retired and I don't want to sit around the house. I bought this Fargo truck in the year 2000 for when I retired in 2015. I was almost finished the fargo when I bought the Buick in 2021. I don't have a lot of extra money so I have to figure out how to fix things instead of just buying new parts. I don't think of it as work. Restoring this truck and car is my Hobby. It's enjoyable and relaxing. I'm just having fun and keep moving. I am learning every day from my RU-vid friends. Hope you enjoy my journey. Andy
Hey Gary. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. Yeah, it bends straight and clean because I ground the edge of the bending side of the angle iron. See timer at 4:30 minutes. The heavier the angle iron, the heavier the sheet that you can bend.
Great video. I've helped replace the freeze plugs a couple of times, but the motor was always removed from the car. Mind you both those cars were little card with big motors in them. Thanks for sharing. The new freeze plug looks like it will do the trick. Look forward to more. Be safe and stay well.
Hey Michigan. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. I love this hoist. I just wish that I bought it before I started building the Fargo 5 years ago. My back wouldn't be half as bad as it is now.
Hey Chris. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. Yeah. What could go wrong, went wrong. Besides, I have never done anything like this before. Whenever I go to do something, I have to learn how to do it. Thank god for RU-vid and my RU-vid buddies.
Yeah That Engine Mount Bolt Always Goes In From The Starter Side!!! We've All Made That Mistake!!! I Know I Have!!! It's How We Learn These Things!!! You Got It Apart And The Expansion Plug Look Nice And Tight!!! Should Hold For You For Some Time!!! Hope You Made The Cruise On Your Long Weekend!!! Keep Rocking It Out Brother!!!
Hey Pat. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. As you know, everything that I do is a learning experience. And chances are I will do it wrong. Until you look at it and straighten me out.😊 Keith and I had a great day. The weather was Texas ready. Thanks, Brother
Hey BB King. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. I wish I knew about these when I first started this project. But when I started building this truck I only knew how to put air in the tires. I learn every day. And of course, I always learn the hard way. I don't have anyone here to ask any of this stuff. Rocker Pat really helps me out. But that is after I screw something up.😂🍺🍺
When i would change a dead block heater i wouldnt even drain the rad. Pop it out and let the tub catch the coolant. Its very rare that a block drain will come out. I dont even bother.
Been having a great few days recently here in Ontario. Great to open windows and doors and get things aired out. Have a great long weekend my friend. Look forward to more. Be safe and stay well.
I always thought that you needed to replace the frost plug till it used more water than it took you to get to work ….engine flush everyday. Ford has similar drains , never know what you will find when you drain them …sand , gaskets . Good luck buddy. RR
Dahl Dog you clean up good, I mean you cleaned your up good, looks great, hopefully the Fargo starts ok for you, catch you soon buddy have a great weekend 😀😀
Hey Gregg. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. I try to make all of my videos short. I like to get to the point and not get boring stuff on my channel. There is no scene showing me walking around or just talking.
@@TheCanadianBubba I would have replaced them when I first started this project, but remember, I knew NOTHING about this stuff. I am learning every day.🙏😊😊
Those are some TALL trees!!! I've never measured that gap. Guess I've just always been lucky that they work fine on my cars. Except for my brothers car. That one I just noticed that we had two shims and it was a bit noisy. Took them out and all was good 👍 Awesome weather you got there. 😎
OK I See A Problem!!!! What Bolts Are You Using? Why Are There Washers Under The Heads? Starter Bolts Are Special Bolts That Have A Knurled Portion That Centers The Starte!!! If You Use Regular Bolts Without The Knurled Portion The Starter Can Twist Causing Binding and Tooth Wear!!! Be Sure You Are Using The Correct Bolts!!! And If They Are The Correct Bolt Be Sure They Aren't Worn Out And Have Little To No Knurling Left!!! Has To Fit Snuggly!!! And That Some Beautiful Weather!!! I Can Certainly Tell Ya'll Don't Get The Same Sun Angle I Do!! Let Me Know What You Find!!! Keep Rocking It Out Brother!!!
Hey Pat. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. Thanks for watching out for me. Yeah, they are the right bolts. Yeah, they are new. Are they supposed to go in without any kind of washer? I always use washers.
@AndysDogHouse I've Never Used Washers!!! Let Me See And Hear The Starter So I Have And Idea What's Going On!!! Aim The Camera At The Starter And Use A Jumper Wire And Ingage The Starter So We Can See The Bendix And The Flex Plate But Not So Close That We Can't See How The Starter Is Sitting As It's Working!!! I Want To See If It's Twisting Or Staying Put!!!! Now Back To The Dog House With You!!! Lol 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 🤣 😂 😹 😆 Keep Rocking It Out Brother!!!
I Used To Install Petcocks In Those Holes Until I Figured Out I Never Drain The Block!!! I'd Just Punch A Hole In The Rear Plug And Let It Drain From There!!! 😂😂😂 I Hope You Get It All In A Bucket!!! It Won't Be To Bad!!! Keep Rocking It Out North Of New York In The Great White North!!!!
Hey Pat. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. It turned into a little shit show, but I got the plug replaced. Now to replace the other plugs. I just wanted to get it done so I can cruise on this long weekend. Keep on rockin' Pat.🤟🤟
Hey Donald. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. I am new at fixing things on the old cars/trucks. I didn't even know they had to be adjusted. I am doing another video later this week on how to check the distance using a wire between the teeth. Stay tuned.
Glad you found the solution. Relatively simple fix. You can buy a shim kit at almost any auto supply store. Or you can make your own like you did. Look forward to more. Be safe and stay well.
Hey Brian. Thanks for dropping by the Dog House. I know that I can buy them, but it feels better when you can make your own things. No matter what it is.
Hey BW. Thanks for dropping by the Old Dog House. I watched many videos on how to gap a starter and all of them showed it done this way. I only saw a couple done with the .025 wire between the gears.
What Frank Said!!! I Always Do It With The Bendex Ingaged And A 1/8 Drill Bit Goes Between The Gears!!! I Have Never Heard Of Using The Motor Shaft!!! I Just Shim Until It Sounds Right!!! Keep Rocking It Out Brother!!!
Hey Pat. Good to see ya in the Dog House. I never knew about shimming the started until I posted my other video. I know that I normally go to you for all of my help and advice, but you never weighed in on my last video so I had to figure it out another way. Sorry. I went online and all the videos that I watched showed gapping between the flex plate and the starter shaft. Here are just a few that I watched. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MFKq9VyCxRA.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-PvpH48TKEYU.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-J0NlRO--9kQ.html
Hey Pat. I have to replace a frost plug in Black Betty. Have you ever tried the rubber plugs? They seem to fit good and easier to install. Any comments? Thanks, Pat.👍👍🤟🤟
@@rockerpat1085 Hey Pat. That is why I was thinking about using the rubber plugs. This bad frost plug is directly between the engine and the mount. This is the rubber plug that am looking at. www.amazon.ca/Siptenk-1-5-Expansion-Automotive-Expandable/dp/B0CRDRP537/?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_w=4E94f&content-id=amzn1.sym.5758671b-686d-4d7c-af22-08ab8e3c615f%3Aamzn1.symc.d10b1e54-47e4-4b2a-b42d-92fe6ebbe579&pf_rd_p=5758671b-686d-4d7c-af22-08ab8e3c615f&pf_rd_r=38JC606HJP0R6BWJGNRR&pd_rd_wg=Q5LZQ&pd_rd_r=74b1cffd-bee1-436a-8083-242bb6f12fa5&ref_=pd_gw_ci_mcx_mr_hp_atf_m
@AndysDogHouse The Problem You May Have With The Rubber Plug Is The Washer Sits Flush With The Block And The Nut You Tighten Sticks Out Too Far And Interferes With The Engine Mount!!! That Has Been My Experience!!! Also If One Is Bad They All Probably Need Replaced!!!
Great to see you back in the shop and getting better Andy. Those tools are great ! have had one for a few years now. Have used it for tiling and brick work as well 👍
I just go by when the noise goes away, have even had to remove material from the starter mounting face a couple of times. The actual GM shims are best because you just loosen the inboard bolt and not fight the weight of the starter, that is why the shims have the open end. I totally remove it first then screw if back in a few turns, then remove the outer, (edit- then shim and then re-assemble) Best days to you and all your family Andy 👍
Hey Bubba. Thanks for dropping by the Old Dog House. I watched many videos on how to gap a starter and all of them showed it done this way. I only saw a couple done with the .025 wire between the gears.
