Qυσтє ™ I think he means the definition of which he's like the joker in a game of the villagers, since he's always a blank slate, able to pull up whatever he wants without the opposition knowing.
Qυσтє ™ This absolutely applies to almost every aspect of competitive games!!! Although I don't agree with implying that Luhtie is a novice I get where you're coming from in comparison. As someone who has played a bit of goaltender in hockey and soccer, it was hardest to defend against the shots of the "weaker" players because you can't know what they're thinking and they just swing and hope for the best. Your strategy and technique are refined by the best that you've faced so its almost unpredictible to face someone who doesn't know every option because yours are so calculated

Leo and ZeRo were so disapointing man. I was in shock really. They are definitely the best 2 players in my opinion, and they lost to players that are almost unknown for most people. I can only guess that the pressure got to them. VoiD and Kameme lost against top players (ANTi, CaptainZack and Mr.E). VoiD also lost to HIKARU, and that is that kind of bad... but that player uses a rare character that has quite a good MU against Sheik. That player also made it to top 32 winners, so surely he is not bad. So overall VoiD can be kind of mad of course for that L, but not too much. And Kameme lost to 2 very awesome players, nobody likes to lose, but it is way better to know that at least you lost to the best, not to people that you know that they arent on your same league. Leo and ZeRo are surely frustrated af.
I'd argue Project M is the most balanced out of the games that are still played competitively. The best PM player is a DK solo-main who is considered a Mid-tier. I feel like Pikachu and Kirby have a pretty good advantage over the rest of the cast in 64. in PM's top 50 ranked players, only 5 out of 41 characters weren't played.
True, it's quite a prediction but commentators say that way to often when Zero fights a lesser known player. It was only a matter of time when it does happen.
Why is everybody making excuses and feeling sorry for zero....the man has won countless of tournaments and 2nd place doesn't even compare. So what that he had this one bad performance...can't just get down and start feeling sorry for the guy just because he's facing adversity for the first time ever in a game he has dominated. You should instead credit xzax and luhtie for beating him...anytime you beat the number 1 player in the world it's legit I don't care who you are and zero should pick himself up off the deck and work even harder after this...not feel sorry for himself.
Michael schrieber Xzax and Luhtie deserve credit but I personally feel bad because if I were in the same position I would be devastated. ZeRo looks ok now so that's good
I’d imagine that ZeRo felt depressed considering the fact that he wasn’t even top 30 in his own Tournament Saga. This tournament was one of the biggest, if not, the biggest tournament smash 4 ever had. japan, europe, america. most pro smash players were here. This was the most important moment for ZeRo to shine.... but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. Of all tournaments he could have lost, it was this one: the most important one. So yes, I feel bad for ZeRo.
Everybody talking about being sad ZeRo lost. However he lost in a place so many lose at. No one feels bad for others who lose in the same place. Best in the world needs to learn/remember the feeling of losing like everyone else. He better remember this feeling and let it charge his desire to be the best and not lose here again. Gotta learn some humility sometimes and that at one point you weren't best in the world.
Thorozak_ I mean people are upset because they wanted to see him against ally. Also he really shouldn't lose this early since he's better than the player he lost too.
What are you talking about dog? Humility? Zero is one of the most humble people playing in the fgc. He uses his position as number 1 to constantly make content for lower level players to get into the game and join the smash community. Zero always realizes how Nairo, Mr. R, Dabuz, or whoever he faces has to feel for still losing to him, despite working so hard to beat him, and acknowledges everyone that he has to go through as a fair opponent. I get what your message is, but it's really not meant for Zero man. Zero is such a nice dude who just wants everyone to enjoy the game like him and everyone gives him so much shit for his playstyle. If anything, this should be a lesson to everyone else that Zero is still just a man and if they worked as hard or dedicated themselves to the game as much as Zero (or Luhtie or any other top player), they could take Zero down and stop disrespecting him all the time just cause he plays the game smart
Luhtie was fearless. you could see the confidence radiating from this man here: 12:20 this stood out to me cause I like to do this to my lil bro when I catch him rolling away from me. xD
There were even people talking shit to ZeRo after this set, sometimes this community shows how childish and disrespectful we are. I feel sorry for ZeRo on what he's been through today, hope he'll be alright for tomorrow
Juan pWn! This is disrespectful? I see no one complaining about when another player goes out early and everyone says " Washed up LUL" talk about double standards.
It is kind of true. The amount of times i see "LMAO FREESAM" when ESAM loses to top players is ridiculous considering ZeRo lost to a non-top player and everyone is like pushing for a moment of silence for ZeRo's broken spirit.
I feel bad for Zero, but don't discredit how Luhtie played in this set. You can come up with every excuse in the book as to why Zero lost, but the fact of the matter is that Luhtie still came out on top against the "best" player in the world.
When I say excuse I mean giving any sort of explanation or reason for something being justified. I'm not saying there isn't a reason why Zero didn't play as best he could, but what I am saying is that it doesn't matter why Zero lost because by the end of the day Luhtie won fair and square for putting up a fight against someone like Zero despite his reasons for playing poorly.
I'm emphasizing the fact that calling him the "best" player in the world is entirely one's opinion. I still agree that he's the best, but that doesn't mean I'm ignorant enough to think of it as anything but subjective.
always assumed this set was some fluke, so finding out that Luhtie won in a game 5 match, with each game being super well played, gotta say im surprised and impressed. I heard he's not too into smash anymore because of college, which is respectable for sure, but some day I hope he returns. Luhtie will go down as one of the biggest dark horses in smash history.
Why are so many nitwits giving excuses for ZeRo? This went to GAME 5 and ZeRo was in the lead and made a fatal mistake. This happens a lot in other tournaments with other players. Remember Prince Ramen? Stop johning and Respect Luhtie for his good smash skills. ZeRo isn't invincible! Remember that!
It's good to see new faces come out to these events and win big instead of the same top 8 or so every time. :) it gives hope to other players who are trying to get better as well.
Great job to Luhtie for not taunting, not over smiling like some other players and keeping it cool. He showed confidence and spoke to the upcoming players, which was pretty uplifting. Someone upload that segment.
Too much "Boo hoo, Zero lost! :(" and not enough. "Man! That was a hype set! Looking forward to see how ZeRo and Luhtie evolve!" This blatant fanboyism for certain players is why Melee's community gets no respect from people who aren't melee fans. Smash 4 is gonna get a bad image if everyone whines about their super hero losing a tournament. There isn't a single comment in the top 100 that is actually praising Luhtie for his ability to keep his composure or complimented his consistency. This is 2GGC's Civil War.. Not Zero Ball Z.
It's not a hype set when it looks and feels like you're beating a tilted god. ZeRo honestly looked uncharacteristically lost this set. Luhtie beat the best player, but at the same time he didn't.
"melee community get no respect"... "Civil war is gonna be HYPE!" -Hbox on twitter. "Smash4 have some sick zero to death" -Westballz on twitter. "Tr4sh suck lol" -a random melee elitist on a twitch chat.
Aero-Mach its not just because he loses, your forgetting the circumstances. He normally places VERY high, this is THE MOST stacked tourney for smash 4 to date. This is a random ZSS that I'm not even sure if hes on the PGR top 50 (hes not even number 1 on the Arizona power ranking). And this is losers top 96, thats really low. Its not just "boo hoo, zero lost! :(" its "im so suprised! I feel bad he lost to such a unknown at such a big event, he placed so low"
"Not even making it to the final boss, he is slain on the battlefield!" He didn't even makr it to the battlefield. Zero got killed during the fucking tutorial, they give him way too much credit. XD
I really wanted to see Zero's reaction as Luhtie carried him to the blast zone on that last stock. They should've had the face cams at this tournament.
ZeRo was playing aggressively, concentrating more on the offense than the defense, so it is certain that he was confident that cocky probably for the part that Luhtie had only been playing for 11 months and now he saw what he won.
Normally when Zero loses, people get all hype (which still happened)... ...now everyone is "sad" for some reason...like give me a freaking break! It's just a game guys! Chill! :P
Incredible set. I could re-watch. That final form Zero was intense. I rarely see him move so precise. GG ZERO. You will return to haunt the smash lands once again >:).
The smash community is stupid. Instead of focusing on the amazing play by Luhtie and taking out the biggest Smash 4 Titan, They focus on how shitty ZeRo feels about it.
Don't let this get to you, ZeRo. It happens. It doesn't matter what anyone says about you or to you because of it. So many people respect you and look up to you as a kind and helpful person and an amazing player, regardless of your placing. Everyone has off days or makes mistakes. You just keep doing you :)
Speedy KP because of the "hella stacked crew" they still need to fight. Imagine going into war, and your air support got taken out.. All of it.. Zeros team is fighting a war without air support basically.
brianna I believe this the first time ever that Zero has been eliminated by a non-top 10 player. 4th time to lose against a non-ranked player. As far as I can tell, this is the biggest upset in Sm4sh history.
fuducker2 yeah, definitely. I think his loss to Prince ramen was the most random tho being a palutena. At least Luhtie is pr, he's 4th in Arizona I think
It was unfortunate Zero lost. But we all make mistakes. Sucks to see Zero out. But everyone on team Zero, you have to give credit to Luthie. Give credit where credit is due
Like come on, the guy won against the best player in the world. Yea, he might have not been playing his best but don't discredit Luthies win. A win is still a win
This guy Lughtie reminds me of pcchris, this guy has only been playing for 11 months but manages to beat the best player in the world, thts crazy. and now after tht victory he went from a nobody to a somebody and was at 70 followers to 3200 followers on twitter. ggs to luhtie!
As usual for upsets, the commentators set it up like a goddamn anime scene. "When's the last time Zero lost to a ZSS?" "You think of Zero vs. ZSS and you think of Nairo, Marss, these players who couldn't do it against Zero." "Zero's gotta remember why he's the best player in the world." "Zero with his back to the wall is a true final boss." I mean, the joke is that Melee is scripted, but damn if Smash 4 doesn't sound scripted now and then, too. Good shit to both players for a damn close set!
Only ranked 3rd in Arizona? He plays just like damn Marss and Nairo lol how is he only third in his region. Also, how have I not heard of any players from Arizona if they're this good. Interesting. What's also funny is how I never heard of this dude before, so more than likely he just decided to travel for once, and it happens to be that he beats ZeRo in doing so, and he's also team ZeRo. You'd think he'd purposely let him win for ZeRo to take the tournament lololol. Seems more like he hates ZeRo.
Luthie is actually a relative newcomer to the scene, this is only is second time on PR I believe. I think one of his secrets is that he trains with PG SS, our number 1, like crazy, so it's easy to see how he got good so fast
I think Luthie studied the match up very well, he constantly caught Zero's movement, and was very aware of banana and monkey flip. Also, his punish game was on point. The second game he won was phenomenal, doing the right punishes at the right time. At game 5, tbh, zero looked very nervous and did mistakes like being above him (knowing that rage and up airs are to strong) and that cost him the game. Great job to Luthie !
yo i was inside the venue when this set was going and it was sooooooo hype. when he closed out the game the entire venue was literally shaking. s/o to 2gg for this amazing tournament
The Guy Who Shot Nino Brown He can't win them all of course. He lost, and I'm not mad at that. I'm mad that people are making fun of him when he's super sad about this.
This is just proof of how much the crowd can influence the skill of the play at the allotted time of this match. Nairo, the best ZSS in the world, has said himself that even his ZSS has trouble with the matchup as well as other notable ZSS mains themselves. Zero has constantly beaten Nairo and has ever since MLG 2015. The crowd was in favor Luhtie, and I'm not saying that he's a bad player. No, the crowd influenced the plays of this match.
Explain Frostbite Grand Finals. Everyone was cheering heavily for Tsu, but Zero still beat him. Crowd influence is a factor, but it isn't a major influence. Luhtie was more clutch and outplayed Zero in this set and that is fact.
+Devin Dunlap Yeah, it definitely was not his best. I totally agree with that. But it still doesn't change the fact that Luhtie outplayed Zero in this set. It happens to the best of players.
+Devin Dunlap Zero seems pretty depressed about the lost. He sent tweets about how he would drop the game or something. Hope he was joking. He's pretty disappointed that he won't fight Ally in singles.
Zero's mindset was probably down prior to this match as he was already sent to losers pretty quickly. Add that to the fact that the crowd cheering against him, and you got yourself a losing set.
Honestly, ZeRo controlled the pace of every single one of these matches. The only ones he lost were when he got cheese spiked at like 40% or like the last match got killed off the top at 20%. Definitely sucks for ZeRo considering he dominated Luhtie in neutral and conversions, he just has to keep in mind how much ZSS can get off of certain 1-time conversions at specific percents.
Man, you guys should have seen ZeRo's twitter. He was really upset. He's even considered the idea of moving over to melee after Leffen cracked a joke about it. ZeRo said it hurts even more knowing that that his life revolves around this game, and he completely botched it up. #TeamZero
Scuffling Boogaloo I mean theres nothing wrong with going against a player, but Im talking about people saying "ugly neckbeard, fat etc" or ppl saying "can I see the video of ZeRo crying" things like that lol. Pretty cruel
Very opinionated Gamer I just wish people wouldn't give him a hard time. It's not like ZeRo is a dick or outspoken or something like that. He's probably as humble as a #1 Smash Player can get. From here on, I will sport the tag "TeamZero" in For Glory.
He got nervous coz of the loss. And the Crowd just destroyed his confidence. FeelsBadMan. My Kawaii chilean meatball lost :c Still upset.. He'll win EVO anyways. He'll come back twice as strong! with more self confidence!
Sora ☆♛ But he had to land the hit in the first place in order to get the follow up. Rage doesn't magically make people have a better chance at landing hits.
Zero is a great player and his past achievements can not be ignored. I wasn't sad for Zero when he lost, because everyone loses sooner or later, it is the nature of the beast. Losing sucks and it doesn't matter if it was against the best in the world or against a unknown kid from Arizona. Zero will lick his wounds, recover and hopefully learn from this. Maybe he wasn't playing at his fullest but that should not take away from what Luhtie did at this event. Because even a tilted, not playing fully within himself Zero nearly won this match and if not for a few mistakes we would be looking at a different final results screen. This is a great example of how fluid this meta is and that there no character nor player that can be slept on. #TeamAlly
UnknownWanabe yup hey diddy/zss main here, zss has a absolutely horrible neutral with a slow grab and only zair and nair for the most part as tools, while diddy has insane neutral and racks up damage insanely quick, so while maybe 100 may be kill range for diddy with down tilt, he also racks up damage insanely fast, zss is a character that relies on punishes and early kills, if she doesnt get a grab kill or a neutral air/downsmash into down b, she has insane troubles killing.
Looking at this from the future, it really brings things in perspective. ZeRo is retired and Luthie is Area 51. The new game is coming out and Ridley is in it. MkLeo who got 65th at this tournament, even lower than ZeRo is now best is the world. Really makes you think.
This was surprising... I was expecting ZeRo to make it to top 16 before he became in any kind of danger of getting kicked out of the tournament but this just proves how stacked this tournament was. I honestly wonder what Nairo must be thinking of Luhtie being the ZSS main to kick him out of tournament.
In the context of this tournament, this upset hurts the most. We all wanted a zero vs ally GFs, but it won't happen. Just the context makes it hurt more. Any other tournament, this would not have hit so hard, in fact, Zero would probably feel less down than he was at the time of the loss, but still hurt. Just the fact of how hyped Civil War was and and the context behind it, and how basically none of it will happen really makes it feel less hype personally. I mean, I like how Japan is running the bracket and how fearsome Japan is being at this tournament, but just the context, it doesn't feel right. We still have the Crew Battle but it may feel different as well, when most of the people in it have basically been eliminated in Singles as well.
