Had two boys and bought two AE86, my oldest is approaching legal age to drive. Decided he didn’t want the corolla, bought a great running blue Is300 to swap for $265. Came home from school and asked who’s car is that? Well he got his first car,. And I still got my 85 and 86 GTS,. Win!
@@aliu_q60a26 depends do you want to do it yourself or get someone else to do it for you. If you're going the GTE route then engine will be insanely expensive itself plus the cost of everything else would add up quite a but plus the labour if you want to get someone to do it for you professionally. I'd say all up including labour and every thing would be close to around 30k - 35k total. Should probably only consider it if you're going to keep your car for a long time
Thats my excuse to my wife also. Told her I was buying a sport compact for my 17 year old son. I told her I would need to fix and change some parts out and do a couple of things to make it would run right....ahem fast. She's asking why is the exhaust so loud now. Then I told her the car "may be" too fast for my son, so I gave him my suv, and I end up with the fast car. Im 45 and Im smiling everyday to work and to pick up groceries runs.

People when you are young: Why do you need this car? Save your money for retirement. Also same people when you're older: why do you need this car? You're 50 years old.
Mind your own business. Nobody buys only what they need, they purchase things that they want as well to have something call FUN. Plus, plenty of people aren't broke and can comfortably afford to do builds like this without compromising their finances. Also, being 50 doesn't mean you can't have fun anymore, you'll be 50 one day too, should you stop enjoying your hobbies just because you're getting old? I respect this man for following his passion. i bought my dream car when i was 22 years old. a 2002 is300 with manual transmission. i put about 30k on the vehicle and realized i could no longer afford it. traded it in on an economical car and regret it. fast forward today. i'm 45 and still dream about that car. glad to see people are still enjoying them

Cool dude! I'm an old boost fogey too and did the same with my 08 VW R32. Built up the engine in the kitchen since I don't have a garage. My wife is from another world lol! Forged internals a 6262pte turbo and 3 years later I'm running daily in a 400 plus AWHP AWD rocket rain sleet or snow. Absolutely the most fantastic car I've ever driven and well worth the investment 😉. Nothing like building your own dream car!
This is a great video. It’s awesome to see someone of that age going after an IS300 and doing a build like that. I would sometimes feel awkward because I have anIS300 and feel like I should have a more grown up car. But this makes it all go away. So I’ll get another car and keep the IS lol.
I graduated this year and the car I bought is a 2001 lexus is300 I love it I’m really looking forward to building it while I’m in college it’s a great car

I also did a swap on my IS. Only regret is not getting a 2JZ like he did. I got a 1JZ vvti instead. Still lots of fun. But at the time it wasn’t much more expensive. Darn drift tax!

If I may add a comment...Not sure if you did it on purpose but showing your boy is fine in my books as he is old enough to make his own decisions as to whether to be on RU-vid and not showing your young daughter is the way to go in my books.
