This video features Interstate 70 in Colorado from the city of Golden at the base of the Rocky Mountains and at the western edge of the Denver Metropolitan Area to the US-40 junction beyond Idaho Springs. In this video, we climb out of the Great Plains and up into the Colorado Rocky Mountains, passing through Mount Vernon Canyon, up Floyd Hill, then we descend down Clear Creek Canyon into the city of Idaho Springs, before we begin to ascend the Rocky Mountains again as continue the journey west toward the Eisenhower Tunnel, which is 25 miles west of where the video ends.

In 2020 and 2021, my girlfriend and I stayed in Idaho Springs and stayed for a week each time. Love that area so much.

This is such a beautiful stretch of highway, but always keep a look-out for semi trucks and RVs struggling in the right-hand lane. Quite a shock to see that one on fire at 1:36, wow. Transmissions and cooling systems get a serious workout climbing up I-70, especially in the hot summer months.

I’ve driven on this part of I-70 on my Colorado trip. Flew into Denver, got on Pena Blvd, and then took I-70 west to Breckenridge, CO. Truly one of the most beautiful drives I’ve ever been on in my lifetime, if not the most beautiful. Really some crazy scenery out there

If you're ever back in Idaho springs, there's a rib joint worth check out called Smokin Yard's BBQ. Great food and amazing views of the Rockies.

Fantastic video of what must be one of the most impressive stretches of freeway in the US, if not the world! 1:39 when you said 'incident' I didn't know what to expect, but certainly not THAT 😳😳 2:08 picture card perfect! I find it really cool how they designed the overpass to not have the center pillar, I feel like a lot of engineers would not have bothered... 7:16 I wonder what's the reasoning behind making an "express lane" (which doesn't even seem to be open), as opposed to just adding an additional lane

It’s definitely a nice stretch of interstate, but if you want to see something even better you should see video of the interstate going through Glennwood Canyon near Gleenwood Springs CO

No matter how many times you made road videos of I-70 going through the Rockies over the years, it never gets old watching them. I know you have some up to date footage of you crossing the Eisenhower Tunnel (& with it the Continental Divide) in a Future video this season. Can't wait to see it!

Good one as usual. I'm used to seeing videos showing the drive east, but this one was just as good, with decent views of the Mountains ahead.... That was a nasty incident with that RV fire, and no Fire/Rescue or EMS had arrived. Hopefully no one was hurt.

5:31 those express lanes are quite fascinating, although the westbound express lane was still under construction at the time of recording. The I-70 Mountain Express Lanes are intended to handle recreational traffic (weekends/holidays) rather than the more-typical weekday commuter traffic. That's quite a unique purpose for an express lane facility!

Back in the summer of 2021, we drove through this section of interstate 70 as we headed out on our cross country road trip to Las Vegas. The day before we drove this section, we got news of serious flooding closing Glenwood Canyon. The canyon reopened the following morning but closed for about an hour later that day because of aftershocks related to the flash flooding. Eventually we did drive through the canyon and were able to make it to grand junction before sunset. Coming back from Las Vegas however we drove via Salt Lake City and Cheyenne instead of Glenwood Canyon in anticipation of a possible closure of the canyon which ultimately happened because of more serious flooding which damaged portions of the roadway. The canyon would not reopen entirely until the second half of August.

Fun (or for me, not so fun) fact; At 4:55 those expansion joints are what broke the base plate on my (then) brand new Sony FDR AX53. I think that's the same camera you're using. Sure wish they'd have used a metal plate for the mount! Great video, Kyle. I never get tired of good ol' I- 70 headed west.

*QUESTION* Maybe someone can help me with this curiosity. I've noticed, primarily in Colorado driving vids that the roads have a green tint, see 2:24 for reference. Is there a reason for the green tint and is it specific to Colorado or is it more widely used?

Hello, I live in CO. The roads look just like roads in other places color wise. I think you’re seeing an illusion either from the screen or recording process.
