Very cool and eye-opening! Any chance we can see the results of 3mm and 4mm cord? I'm looking to use 'bank line' instead of paracord, to carry accessories while I climb. A standard paracord size is 6mm (of course there are other sizes!) I saw YOUR video about "bank line" and plan to get some. 👍 Bank line seems to come in many U.S. sizes, from 2mm-3mm being very common. 4mm bank cord is also available. I want something lightweight to connect gear to, like a follower cord for a Tibloc, to pull it up the main climbing rope. So it's not necessary to be rated for a lot of kN or lbs. of force. But I'm don't wanna go TOO small with the bank line at risk cutting my climbing rope. I know your example is extreme. But if I choose bank line that's around 3mm, how much less likely is that to be able to slice through a 10-11mm climbing rope??? 🤔
Hi! I think it would probably be fine to use bank line for this, as long as it's never going to come in contact with the main climbing rope and be under tension. If you think that would happen, using a slightly larger diameter cord would probably be a better idea. I use bank line more for tying off small things on big wall climbing, like water bottles and sleeping pads, there are never going to touch the rope.
