I just want to say as a first time homeschool parent this school year... Thank you from the bottom of my heart. As a full on public school child myself, I'm sure you have an idea of the amount of gratitude I have for your time and shareable resources that you gave in this video. I adopted the entire buildable curriculum you showed me in this video and customized it to my new second grader. You will be in my prayers when I pray for myself in getting through this. Thank you again and have a wonderful day
I love how you have cutouts that they can put in order for the daily work on months, days of week, etc... the writing out of it all is a hindrance to my upcoming 2nd grader and so I don't do as much with our daily notebook as I would like. What you do is so much better and will eliminate some of the tedious writing! I LOVE Spelling U See! I hope it works as well for your daughter as it does for my son. I'm shocked at how well it works for him, actually!
The cut-outs work great and are more fun than writing, for sure! I have heard such great things about Spelling You See so I'm very excited to try it with her!
Kids are growing up fast. I think she will be ready for TT 3. My daughter jumped right from beta and she is doing great. Lot of easy reviews in the beginning. My little one loves Math for Living Education. Great choices.
We are also using All About Spelling and All About Reading this year. And SOTW has been a long time favorite. We have gone through the series twice now with my older ones.
I was wondering if you could do a video on your homeschool schedule /routine? I love your curriculum that you pick out, and I would love to implement some of it as supplements to my current curriculum. so I was curious to see how you git it in to your school week.
I will if I get the time. I did one last year but it wasn't until several months after we started school. I wanted to make sure my plan would actually work and make any adjustments. If I do one this year, it will probably be around October or November.
The daily math pages are from the Carson Dellosa Weekly Math Grade 1 workbook here: amzn.to/2rDOV9x The calendar pages are mostly from Confessions of a Homeschooler's free daily learning notebook downloads from her website. I hope that helps!
We used Spelling You See this past school year and loved it. I don't like spelling lists so this was perfect. We switch to Brave Writer for next school year . Thanks for sharing!!!
We almost went with Spelling U See this year, but I'm still undecided. We are starting our 6th year and we are always switching it up. New sub from me today!
Hello and welcome! I've heard great things about Spelling You See so I'm excited to give it a try. I'm like you, in a lot of subjects, like to switch it up!
I really think you're going to like Spelling You See. We've used it for about a year and what I love is that it's pretty painless and on the plus side, my daughter's spelling has really improved. Keep us updated on how it's working for y'all. ❤️
Thanks for the encouragement! I really do hope we like it! I love All About Spelling, too but Spelling You See might be a nice change for us for awhile. I'll keep you guys posted.
I would love to hear a review of Spelling You See after you've tried it out! We too currently use All About Spelling, and my twin rising second graders will be starting AAS 2. While we do like it, I love the workbook style and looks of Spelling You See. I'm tempted to make the change, but since AAS is working I'm hesitant. I will be looking forward to a comparison!
I completely agree with you! For us, AAS is working but I personally want to try something else and I like how Spelling You See will also serve as her handwriting practice. It also appears to be a little bit less teacher-involved and intense. AAS definitely works and is such a great program but sometimes we need a change here and there.
This is amazing - thanks so much for sharing. I live in New Zealand and would love to send you and your girls some different things about and from New Zealand.
Thanks so much! My girls would LOVE THAT! Especially my oldest because she's obsessed with Lord of the Rings and talks all the time about how she wants to visit there because that's where LOTR was filmed. You certainly don't have to send us anything but we do love getting mail! :)
Awesome - I would love love to send you all some things. My son goes to Elementary school but we also love to do "mini homeschool" as he loves to call it and you inspire me heaps. yay tell her I will most def add in some Lord of the Rings things for her. I've got some NZ units i've been working on so i will send those up as well. have a wonderful weekend!
Loved seeing your choices for your 2nd grader! Could you share where you got the pages for the Daily Notebook? I'd love to get that started for my child! Thanks in advance!
Thanks, I'm so glad you liked it! I didn't think to bookmark the links and they literally came from all over the place. I think I found most of them through Pinterest so I would start there. I'm sure you can find a lot of them.
Love, Love, Love what you compiled to go along with the Evan-Moor science workbook you picked out! Would you mind sharing your unit plans for each chapter? It would be so awesome so I don't have to reinvent the wheel. So glad I found your channel. Thank you in advance:)
I looked for it this morning and for some reason I can't find it. That kind of concerns me because I might've needed to make changes to it. When, or if, I find it, I will be happy to share it.
I love your channel it’s so informative-TYFS! Are you guys done with Spelling U See? Will you do a video on how it compares to AAS and if it can be combined in some way? TY:)
We are using all about reading for 2nd grade this year and I dont enjoy teaching its format. Have you tried other reading programs? Im considering purchasing another program. I love the story of the world so far we are having alot of fun.
The only other reading programs we tried before using AAR was Hooked on Phonics and Ready 2 Read. Both of those didn't work for very long and, for us, AAR was the perfect solution. I'm sorry that you don't enjoy the format but do you feel your child is doing well with the program? If so, maybe you could find some ways to make the teaching more fun.
Hello I live in United Kingdom, and it will be my first year to homeschooling my son. And for maths I already purchase for maths maths u see do you think maths teaching textbooks is a better program than maths u see? I already purchased from prim till epsilon all elementary school. So I see so many reviews about maths teaching textbooks.
I think Math U See if a great program for a very young child or a child that is a Kinesthetic learner. Some kids just need to touch and feel what they are learning and the blocks from Math U See really do help with that. Ultimately though, for our family, we have always planned to use Teaching Textbooks because I am terrible at math and don't have the confidence to teach my kids the math skills that they need. In the early years I do but not for very long. My oldest daughter has been using TT for about 5 years and my youngest daughter (almost 2nd grade) just started with Teaching Textbooks, Grade 3 and is doing very well. Both of them are great math programs, it really just depends on your kids and how confident you are at teaching them math. I hope that helped!
I am considering starting my second grader in teaching textbooks this year. On the placement test for the third grade level it has a few multiplication problems, which my child would not be familiar with. We haven't introduced multiplication yet. Because of the multiplication should I wait before starting him with level 3 and do another math program for second grade? I am having a hard time deciding which math program to use with him. We have used ABeka for both K and 1st. However it goes really fast starting in 2nd grade and I am not sure if that would be good for him. I have a 5th grader also and she has always done so well with ABeka Math that we have just kept it the same. Thanks for your advice and your videos have been so helpful
It would probably be best to ask Teaching Textbooks directly but from my experience, your child shouldn't need any prior work with multiplication because that doesn't come until much later in the course. My daughter didn't have any multiplication experience before starting TT and she did very well. We did add Times Tales for her when TT started teaching multiplication just to help her memorize them faster. I have a whole video on that if you're interested: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xk1yPaIq3Nk.html I hope that helps!
We use Life of Fred as a supplement to Math Mammoth. But I know a lot of family that use LOF as a core curriculum. , and they say it's more than enough. 😊 So maybe it's completely up to us.😁
+Tomi Adelson The jury is still out on that but the one thing I’ll say is that I have been missing the spelling rules from AAS. There are times when my daughter will misspell something and I don’t have a rule to refer her to as to why it’s wrong. It’s a double edged sword because it’s those same rules that can be overwhelming, boring and tedious. I’m just not sure yet if it’s going to make a difference in her spelling but I’ll be doing a full review near the end of the year and should be able to give you a more definite answer/opinion. I hope that helps a little. 😊
Hi Becky, great video!! I did notice you have Story of the World laying on your table. I don't think you mentioned it in your 2nd graders curr choices. I have been highly considering using that for my kiddos this year but as I was looking at videos and lots of reviews I noticed some was saying it's not really biblical. like A Lot of it goes against the truths in the bible. Curious what you think about that. Thanks
Yes, I completely forgot to mention it for my 2nd grader's video but I did talk about it in my 8th grader's video. I love it but there isn't really any sugar coating of other faith's that were practiced by ancient people. I always remind my girls that other people believe those things but that we don't. So far, there isn't much of the Bible that is brought into it and I haven't noticed anything that goes against the Bible as of yet. I would recommend buying just the textbook or renting it from your library and looking over it before you purchase the student pages. That way you'll be able to see what you think about it. If you don't like that, there's always Mystery of History which is mostly Biblical. Also, Mystery of History and SOTW can also be used at the same time. There are posts on Pinterest where people share how to use both curriculum at the same time. I hope that helps!
lol history is one subject that I struggle with. I know it's terrible but I just do not enjoy history. I wish I did but NOOOO. Doing two history curr almost puts me over the edge just thinking about it haha.
Hi! Quick question, Do you have teachers manuals for all your curriculum such as the daily science, Beginner geography and first language lessons? or is it no need for it?
For Daily Science and Beginning Geography there is no Teacher's Manual. For FLL, levels 1 and 2, the workbook is all you need. When you start FLL Level 3, then there will be a separate student workbook and teacher's manual. I hope that helps!
yes it does, thanks :). I didn't want to order and not get all that I need. By the way, I thought I had all my curriculum picked out for my 2nd grader and then I watched this and I changed to all yours lol. Thanks so much! First timer here :)
It's funny that you asked that because somebody else asked me the exact same question earlier this week. I'll copy what I told her: One thing I’ll say is that I have been missing the spelling rules from AAS. There are times when my daughter will misspell something with SUS and I don’t have a rule to refer her to as to why it’s wrong. It’s a double edged sword because it’s those same rules that can be overwhelming, boring and tedious. I’m just not sure yet if it’s going to make a difference in her spelling but I’ll be doing a full review near the end of the year and should be able to give you a more definite answer/opinion. I hope that helps a little
Actually that is very helpful. I was using spelling you see along with explode the code but we have taken a break from spelling you see since I felt I didn't need both. However I must check the teachers manual to see if either one teaches the rules. Although my little one has had progress with both, referring him to the rules of spelling might be helpful. Thanks!
