"Tallahassee" - With the hopes of finding a magical compass that could help her and Mary Margaret get back to Storybrooke, Emma takes a journey with a not-too-trustworthy Captain Hook up a treacherous beanstalk in an attempt to steal the item from a murderous giant (Jorge Garcia, "Lost"). Meanwhile, Emma's past is revealed to be anything but magical when she meets up with a fellow thief who wants to make an honest woman out of her, on "Once Upon a Time," SUNDAY, NOVEMBER 4 (8:00-9:00 p.m., ET) on the ABC Television Network.

This scene is even more relevant when you realized that Hook was perfectly reflecting himself on Emma at that moment. He, too, had trouble opening himself to other, hadn't had love in a long time, and was abandoned by his parent as well *gross sobbing*

Only one thing I hated is how they don't mention his mother. I guess it's vaguely implied she might've died, question is how? Sigh. I'm glad for captainswans ending though. Baby hope is cute.

I always loved the ease with which these connect. They're on opposite sides of the conflict, yes, but Emma was right: they understand each other. Hook sees past her walls easily because he sees himself in her and she takes a climb on a beanstalk to confide in him about personal things like her past love, while she takes 2 whole seasons to do the same with her parents. I also love his mild curiosity about her relationship status, one of my favorite things about s3 is how Killian slowly switches from the attraction from s2 with some degree of genuine interest there that he either doesn't realize or ignores, to full blown realization he's fallen for her. It's so precious to see.

Hook recognized Emma after their first meeting - she took time to realize it herself in Neverland.

Notice, in Neverland, when Peter Pan wants Emma to admit what she is, Hook had already known and NAMED it, an orphan, on the beanstalk where they first got to chat. Seems her forgot this when he asks her after she'd revealed the map.

CrehzehBehbeh Actually, that scene in 3x02 where Emma is confessing that she still feels like an orphan was originally written as a Hook and Emma scene, but they decided it would be more touching for her to mention it to Snow.

+CrehzehBehbeh another point would be that in the time between Hook's witnessed first hand that whether Emma believes it or not she's much more than just a "lost girl" so he doesn't put it together because he honestly doesn't see her like that anymore

This is a ridiculously late comment, but Emma never outright says it herself. Pan wanted HER to admit it, and Hook knew it as well (even if he wasn't entirely aware of how complicated her relationship with her parents was) but Emma had to admit it herself, that even WITH her parents in her life, she still felt like a lost girl.

Plus he might have been projecting himself on her (both on the beanstalk and in Neverland). He had a similar past, but he was not defined by it, because other, more profound things happened to him, and because he worked hard to o ercome some of his vices. He might as well have thought that Emma USED to be an orphan, but not anymore (she found her family, for example).

Hook is very perspective when it comes to Emma. He knows what it means to be abandoned so he can see himself in her. He definitely has her number especially the walls she put up. When he ask her if she's ever been in love and she says "no" you can tell she was lying. I think Hook knew she was lying too. I think she lied because she didn't want to reveal herself to him. She's been guarded for so long and the only person she truly let in was Henry. There was no way Emma was going to let Hook in because he's a villain. The last time she opened up was to Cora who was pretending not to be a villain and we've seen how well that worked out. She's not about to make the same mistakes with Hook. You can tell she's affected by him. Gotta love CS

"An orphan is an orphan". At that time, Hook already had the key to save Henry. If it's not what we call destiny, it looks a lot like it.

so true! lol Ironically that scene where he asks Emma in Season 3 in 'Lost Girl' episode; Hook:"So, just who are you, Swan?" Emma: "Wouldn't you like to know." Hook: "Perhaps I would..." lol! Foreshadow much?

The writers said we might get more of his backstory in season 3. I kinda hope they do--it would be awesome to see Neverland and to see how Captain Hook lived there.

Isn't it weird how much Hook's character has changed in season 3? Whom ever has been in love before can tell the look he carries now, of overwhelmed feelings because of Emma. All because of love lol

We will. A lot of ppl think, and I agree, that Hook is also Peter Pan grown up, not just Hook. And that's why he seems to talk fondly about the lost boys. And he had been to Neverland before we saw him in ep. 4, that was obvious.
