Great video, had to replace oil cooler seals and have access to the service manual...but your video saved me a lot of searching for the bolts I needed to remove (and actually the service manual tells you to do way more work than necessary...) so this was a big help

Very glad to hear it and thank you for the kind words Greg this is an old video you would be extremely impressed with what I’ve done with some of my newer ones on the sprinter vans and removing the different components in there I actually made the installation and removal of them intakes much simpler by showing you how to make your own brackets to remove and replace them easily you can find them under my sprinter playlist on my RU-vid channel. They will blow your mind and would make removing the intakes and installing them much much simpler

I highly recommend you watch my installation videos. It’s gonna be more helpful than this video because after this video may be a year later, I made an installation video which covers the removal during the installation and the problems that you will run into and the things that I learned, I’m not saying that to toot my own horn or to get more views, but my newer videos on this subject include a lot more information that will help you from breaking things. It’s under my Sprinter playlist. If you care to look, I highly highly recommend it.

Great job. I love that you get right to the heart of the subject. Can you do a video of where the oil line/leak is on a 2011 Sprinter Van? I have a leak on the back of the motor and cant for the life of me figure out exactly where the oil leak is. Thanks
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco Год назад
Thanks for the kind words John but there’s only two places that could come from. The oil cooler or the turbo. I get suppose it’s also possible that you have an oil leak coming out the PCV but that’s all down by three bolts and you could check the gasket right there the PCV is on the passenger side rear of the cylinder head and is that big round plastic looking thing that connects to your elephant hose. Hope that’s helpful and I have video and all of that stuff in my Sprinter playlist there is no other places that I can leak oil with the exception of the main seal obviously in the rear of the engine but I’m assuming you would know that for certain more than likely it will be your oil cooler seals very very big job

I just finished removing the turbo on my 2012 3500. One tip for you. On the back of the turbo, the two bolts that attach to the bracket. You had help holding the wrench head from above, but I found an easier way. A 2 foot + long extension with a swivel will fit from behind the transmission cross member and over the top of the transmission and be almost straight at the bracket. Both bolts were LOCKED in after 200k miles but I was able to break them loose myself after an hour or so trying from the top and side. Going over the back of the transmission was a breeze with a rachet similar to the one you used, still took a lot of push to finally loosen.

Thanks for posting, ive pulled random turbos on american deisel trucks and some import cars and this one is probably the most difficult for me. The two bolts on the back of the turbo that are the mounting bolts i had to get with a 3/8 breaker bar and E12 socket from under the truck in a really awkward position. This is not your average diyer job for sure and those bolts get rounded easy. Need some good tools for this one. I had 150K miles and turbo was never pulled so maybe this one was harder than others.

Hey Clay, I’m a 24/7 roadside guy and just found a bad turbo on a customers delivery vehicle. They want me to fix it on their lot rather than send it to a shop for it to sit around waiting to be fixed. What sort of time should I expect on removing and installing a new one? Are the exhaust bolts prone to breaking off when removing them? I appreciate any other feedback you have. It’s a 2010 sprinter if that helps.
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 года назад
Actually it’s not that bad I would assume the worst could be eight hours but realistically you’re probably going to have that changed out in three Yes the bolts break off. And you might wanna watch one of my later videos they might be a little bit better on the subject just look at my Sprinter playlist and watch a full intake video because more than likely they just don’t have turbo problems. . Luckily all the problems that they do have are generally related in that area so if the intakes are seized you want to do that at the same time to. And to remove the Intakes do the oil cooler turbo gaskets everything I charge $3500 they won’t get a quote for less not even close and it’s well worth the money because even if you have to do the Intakes . You’re gonna spend two days on the job. If you have any additional questions I would recommend you message me on clays ac and Auto Repair on Facebook messenger because I don’t get notifications for comments that come after the first one for some weird reason

In the past when I take these apart I could not get to the bracket that is bolted to the back of the turbo on the 2007 to 2011 models But last week I did a 2013 and I’m pretty sure I could’ve gotten the bolts out that were bolted to the engine block instead of the ones that were bolted to the turbo which would’ve allowed the bracket to come off with the turbo at the same time so I highly recommend you check and see if that’s a possibility on your remodel let me know if it is and what year it is. So I can pass the information onto future people

Is this the same process as a 2008
@sharpcarco
@sharpcarco 2 месяца назад
It’s the same process till 2022 when they discontinued the 3.0 Just so you know if you’re searching the Internet for specific years The thing is manufactures will not make any money making one thing for one year if they change it, it has to be extreme So things like turbos engine blocks cylinder, heads, major major components, like things that are necessary to replicate because of expense they won’t be any different when the vehicle first got produced and till they end that platform in the situation, but things like doors as long as the bodies not changed, they’re gonna be the same So I’ll give you a really good example other than the Mercedes sprinter that they made millions that are identical but different years there are some changes in 2009 to the engine itself, but they were additions for EPA regulations like adding the blue to the exhaust but still the overall engine itself is identical then we’re just additions to the exhaust system so they did change part numbers for that but the parts are still shaped the same. They just have different holes in them now. I’ll give you an example 2 to 2018 GM started making the Saturn Vue but the Gmc Terrain and the Chevy Equinox underneath all of the body structure is identical to the 2002 then even though they still make the Chevy Equinox it’s totally different for 2018 but the same before that as the 2002 they just put in different motors and stuff like that. Just in case you didn’t need to search the Internet high and low for your specific year and that’s why mostly planned opulence and profits always profits first… the more you make something the more money you make

On my vito the 2 bolts that hold the turbo on the pedestal/block thing just next to the swirl motor are put from the bottom, so I decided to take the turbo pedestal/block away with it, its attached with 4 bolts and the one that is on the right side on the back is impossible to reach. And so are the 2 bolted from below instead of from above like on your sprinter. Might just get the whole fucking engine out cause its a real shitty job.

You should be getting anywhere from 19 to 21 miles per gallon by the way unless there’s something wrong if you’re getting way less than that then your exhaust system is more than likely plugged in. I would be very very careful and get that rectified.
