I am in a wheelchair and live vicariously through videos like yours. I have to say that your's are my favorite now. I love the format (the video speaks for itself) You and Marie rock! Please give us more.
Right? They come from the farm store my brother works at. Apparently that's all that chicken lays because we've had at least 10 or more cartons with all eggs like that. :)
I took my wife camping on our first real serious date to see if she was comfortable and experienced doing a primitive campout. If whether she knew how to set up camp, go to the bathroom outside. starting and maintaining a proper fire along with everything else involved. I'm happy to say that was 37 years ago on Blake Island in the S. Puget Sound here in Washington State. That's my Girl alright.
Super . . . just SUPER! Enjoying the fruit of your labor. It was so much fun to watch from beginning to end. Thank you for taking the time to get it all on video.
You're both awesome. I am so happy to watch this Episode, the building of the camp, the lead up to Winter, cooking and camping is the best. such a beautiful setting. Thank you for taking us along. Cheers !
So glad to hear! I was really stressing about what we should do for the 10th and final entry in the series since the snow came down. Camping turned out to be the perfect thing! If only we had a big ol steak though instead of spam
I see a lot of people who do this that build shelters, if you do a lot of sawing and shaving off of the bark keep it. I take bags with me to gather saw dust and shavings to use to start fires. Saw dust is amazing for this and no need to gather anything to start it with.
I don't actually leave, we just film us leaving then come back and do other things. Remember, I only show you what I want to show you. There's tons behind the scenes.
enjoy the forest to the fullest. im ill now so i cant do this any more i enjoyed it more than anything..so the bottom line is take as good care of yourselves as you can and i hope you have many years of enjoyment.
might i make a suggestion about your lighting options? if you find a downed pine tree that's not completely rotten and take the pine knots from the base of the limbs they make great improvised candles and they burn for along time very brightly.
Make sure it’s tuna in oil, that way it can wick and burn properly! I loved it when I made it. I actually forgot about that trick until you mentioned it here. Thank you!
This was so lovely. Just found your build today and have enjoyed the sights and sounds so much. I don’t understand what the big room is for - just a utility room, thought you were gonna sleep in there? Certainly cozy though on the bed in front of the fire. Where does the pup sleep
Very glad I stumbled on your channel. Very cool watching 2 young people like yourselves spending time in the woods. It is similar to what we did many years ago but you really took it to another level.
after watching your first one building this camp , I'm really very impressed . you honestly do meticulously fine work and put thought into everything you build into it. I'm just an old carpenter that's retired , 56 yrs old . my Filipino wife loves the wilderness here in the states . didn't know how well she would handle the cold , even in Louisiana and Arkansas . I was amazed , but I got her excellent cold weather gear , ( mil surplus , and sore bought both . she handles it better than I do . we soon have eight kids headed this way . all good things willing , considering these children are very respectful and chomping at the bit to learn , I cant wait to teach em wood/bushcraft stuff , hunting and fishing too . we live remotely on a lake . we camp on islands a lot as well as deep hardwood forest land too . ive have 2 similar rifles to yours . marlin 1895cb & a trapper1895 . use rem loads and underwood loads . my wife didn't really know how much of my life I spent growing up deer , duck , turkey , hog & rabbit hunting , fishing inbetween . so she really is taking off on enjoying this stuff , which I'm really happy about . the kids cant say enough about camping and fishing and hunting . ages from 7 to 19 . so , it looks like schools gonna be in session for quite awhile . her father gave us a pika house on the southern island of Mindanao on the s.e. side half way up a mountain . a truly beautiful view . never , ever gets cold there , but they do get monsoons . once the kids are here and we egt them all set up and into their lives as well as me teaching them many things , we will be going back there every two years or so . its on the edge on the kiotos mountains . no wookies , but some very large cobras . ha and crocs on the lowlands . they all farm coconut , cacao , coffee , mangos pineapples and papayas . I'm already sending back the coffee . I'm not much of a gourmet sorta guy...but that coffee is awesome ! as is the fresh green tea . as well....lot to be said for fresh seafood from two of her brothers....something I didn't expect ....ah well....all expected bonuses I never expected from some truly good people . I love em a lot....easy going people . I'm not much on manila and the city areas where her sisters live.....I prefer spending time with her dad and brothers, wife and kids....rural . oh by the way I found these blue and white Italian officers heavy wool blankets for 69 bucks on sporstmens guide > ( mil surplus) . they are 100% virgin wool , do not itch and are heavier than ANY Pendleton or hudsons bay ive ever had . for the price I bought 6 of em . only other one worth buying I got is a dutch navy one . also heavy wool. we use em on top of our sleeping bags or alone with pads....best sleeping blanket Ive ever had .
Nice get away. I appreciate your video. Look into building a long term fire. Lots of vids on it. An easy on is 3 large logs about 3ft long. 2 on the bottom with lots of kindling in between and on top along the whole length. Light the kindling and once it gets going, put the 3rd large log on top right in the middle. Put 2 stakes behind each bottom log to stop them from rolling over once their sides burn, then the 3rd log on top will eventually drop in the middle on the embers, basically still leaving you with 2 whole logs to burn (the 2 half burned & the 3rd one). Hard wood will last longer, if you have any there.
It was great, watched from start to finish and really loved the commentary, no explanation needed. Great idea with the Tinned Tuna and mushrooms. Wayne from Brisbane Australia
@@wituikbws, I have probably watched too many bushcraft videos, a person can take only so much chopping and sawing. LOL It seems like they're all doing the same things, making the same shelters and cooking the same food. I was pleasantly surprised by your camp, very original and enjoyable. Thanks 🙂
I meant to say in your compilation that Red Pine Outdoors has some very amazing deals on para-cord quite often, I say that as I realized how much went into this build, cheers.
I just checked them out and for sure will be buying from there. Luckily most of the para-cord I used I had gotten for cheap but towards the end it was really starting to add up :)
Hey Nicholas here's a recipe for you to try. It's very simple and makes a hardy breakfast. You need a can of potatoes, can of beans, a can of spam and three eggs. A cast iron pot is the best way to cook this. First fry up some slices of span until you have a nice crust on both sides. Add the can of potatoes, not the liquid. Add your can of beans and allow to cook for about 5 minutes. Add three raw eggs and fold until the eggs are cooked and then enjoy. Another thing to try at lunch or dinner is to cut up some potatoes into cubes, add them to a bowl, then add dry onion soup mix. I find the Knoor brand is the best. Add a couple of table spoons of butter and mix with the potatoes and onion soup mix. Get some heavy duty foil and make pouches with it (enough pouches for amount of potatoes). Cook over the fire allowing enough time for the potatoes to cook and caramelize. Serve with whatever meat you plan on cooking. We have served this to our neighbours and they love it. It's a must have when we are at camp.
Wonderful production style, appreciate the long venue....... I have never seen tuna warmed like that before, that was the surprise in this video...... you most always provide at least one hidden gem like that, shows great imagination....... Waiting patiently for the next one........
Thank you! You should try the tuna like that, make sure it's in oil of course. It gives it a completely different taste and it's great. :) Hopefully there will be a new video soon!
Now I have your great vids to watch to add with Joe Robinet....and Shawn James....great stuff to watch sir......for a bunch of hosers.....lol......also loved SCTV growing up.............Take Off......and thanks for the vids
I am in the middle of watching this one, but this one of your best episodes. I could spend weeks in a cedar forest like that. Also, your camp is so meticulously organized.
Thank you! I spent ages on it, it use to have really nice music but I had to take it out. Ended up re-rendering it 3 times and re-uploading it 2 times :/. I love these forests though they're really peaceful :)
The wife and I are heading into the forests of Vancouver island. We will have different Recreation site campgrounds to ourselves for FREE. We will be wandering from site to site for 6 months each winter. Average temp 3-9 C.... We will use a 2wd Tacoma with a Tufport D-59 which is 500 pounds and cheap for the bedroom and king size mattress. A tiny trailer cargo 5 x 8 all aluminum will telescope to the camper back door and it will house the compost toilet and wave 3 heater and sink. Behind the 500 pound trailer are 2 doors to open for our teardrop which connects to our Canvas tent section double skin and tarped. 10 x 14 foam floor and back door and little buddy heater and coleman 1 lights off a 20 pound tree. This is basic camping with only 206 square feet to protect from the snow or rain......make that mostly winter rain. I could stay at resorts for $ 1,600 dollars but people get on my nerves and I called and they said if they don't like the look of our vehicle then we have to get out. It's a 2018 truck with camper on top but they have turned people away before......fuck them. If were happy back there it may become a yearly pilgrimage to the forest......and in Ontario I used to spend summers in a primitive log camp and winter weekends.
I'm glad you took the music out, it brings out the peace and quiet of your camp. Not speaking doesn't seem to hinder your team work. You are most fortunate to have such an attractive partner.
A picture is beautiful! Snow Country lives there for me. I live in Hokkaido in Japan. A season is winter. It's also snowy. Your animation provides with outdoor useful information!
Just something to think about. If you put a clear plastic sheet in the front of your sleeping area that could be rolled up out of the way during the day and let down at night it would work like a “super shelter” and increase your temps to sleep in. If you coupled that with a self feeding fire lay you would be toasty all night and still have a fire in the morning. Just a thought.
Glad to hear :), I think my favourite kind of spam was corned beef flavoured spam my friend had brought once. But I may have enjoyed that so much because my calories were tanked from living in a half ass built camp for a week in winter ahaha
@@wituikbws I lived in Maui HAWAII for 28 years, it's pretty much ruined& prices skyrocketed! Moved to THAILAND and now that as well is done! Left a year ago & living in a beautiful place in Mexico! ,Been here 1 year& don't believe everything you hear on the news! Living the good life down Mexico way!
Tarps with more eyelets placed in them along the sides and a few in the center like you would in a blanket then thread them with cord and fill tarps with dirt has you cover your long term shelter. Ypu could also cut tarps and place eyelets to form front and back panels that you could bind to poles. You could make a tarp earth bag shelter in sections then fold it up pack it in set up frame of shelter then fill up tarps with dirt. If you really want it to last in spring make cob and fill tarps with cob and then let your whole shekter dry out and harden over summer for winter camping. 😊
great video on camping out side loved it all! tell your wife to relax she is doing a great job!! P.S. next time you stack wood always if you can make sure the bark is always facing up! Then if it snows or rains on it the wood wont get wet....
Awesome! Both of them would be nice. Just wish I found the new spot at the lake before I went and built this long-term camp. Should have built it there!
Crazy idea take burlap bags sew them together to form a sleave. place ties on bottons every few feet so the burlap sleave will only expand so far. Then fill the sleave with leafs forming like a mattress. Then lay it over a shelter and secure it to the structure then tarp it. For a long term shelter. Another idea would be to use earth bags. fill the bags with dirt and lay them around the outside of the structure and then across the roof. Some crazy ideas for you. 😊
Indigo Dragon71 That's a great idea! I was going to do a similar thing to the shelter with moss but sadly the snow came early and kind of screwed us aha
You could always pack in a few rolls of earth bag tube and use moss and leafs and dirt to fill the earth bags up to make a long term shelter then cover the shelter in cob. 😊
Correction use non flammable tarps and make earth bags that you can tie together fill with dirt or plant materials to cover a shelter to survive in. That you can just pull the rope used to seal the tarps together empty them out and roll them up and reuse them at your next camp site. Design tarps to be used for this style of shelter system. Awe perfection! 😊
I like what your doing here and the way you done it. With a bit more construction and materials you could add a small wood stove. We did this down to 20 below. When it started getting to 50 below , we bugged out.
Excuse my ignorance ,but besides heating up tuna and soaking oil what other purpose is there or is there for doing it like that!!!! Very interesting!!!
