I love this video! My gelding is terrified of the flag whip. I can't wait to use your tips when I go out later to work with him

What do you do when the horse starts to walk away from you while applying the pressure? If I stop with the pressure, it teaches him that he’s doing the right thing by walking away, but if I keep the pressure on, it turns into a game of chase and makes the scary thing more scary.

Would this help a horse handle a rope swinging over his head?

Hi, I have had good success with training 2 dozen horses. But I have a problem, I have not seen addressed in books or videos. I have 3 mares: a 2001, 16 h, tb mare, 2004, 16 h, 2 or 3 in trakehner, a 2012, 15h, 2 in daughter of the tb mare by a son of Doc Bar that has never been separated from the dam. They were .I ing on a 53 cacre corral for years and went feral except for staying affectionate to me. They are in a 12 acre flag shaped corral now and still very affectionate. I can go without a rope and they all follow me. Then I can, with no lead rope bring the tb mare, oldest and the dominant mare, out and the only one I trained and rode in 2006 and 2007, never again till November 2021. Within in 20 minutes she was as good as when I had last ridden in 2007, My problem? Extreme buddy sour behavior. The other 2 go bunkers when I take the lead mare out. And if I take any of the other 2 out they all go crazy, as if I were taking her to the slaughter house. Any solutions?

I have a horse that will be in a parade next week. This horse is scared of horse-drawn wagons ( which there will be plenty off) and I don't know what to do. We don't have access to any wagons or the money to pay someone to drive one. Does anyone have any ideas of how to desensitize her to them without having one on hand. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Erin Wallace I wish I was on here a year ago. I would have said use something of a similar size and sound like a truck. What did u end up doing?!

I know this video is a year old, but very good information. My haflinger mare is extremely chill, and not a lot spooks her. I let her smell everything before I start and at the end of all sessions. That way she knows it's just an object. I was working with a empty water bottle and plastic bag today. She just looked at me like ok crazy lady can we go eat now? I was crunching, shaking, throwing the bottle and bag around and she didn't care. I'm going to be working with a flashlight, and bells also. Does anyone have any other ideas to try with her? We've also thrown rocks in a bucket not too far from her, and she was mainly concerned with whether there was food in the bucket. She's a good "ole plug" as some people would call her. My children ride her with no problems. She'll go faster with me because I'm older, and she doesn't have to babysit me. I'm looking for ideas to really make sure she won't do any kind of spooking with anyone on or around her. She's too darn good a pony for me not to work with her.

@@anioop7755 my newest addition a mini mare would be the same way. She has a good reason though. She was mistreated and made to eat scraps from a larger horse. They didn't feed her and 2 larger guys decided she "needs to be trained to ride". So proceeded to get on her. You don't ride minis. So I'm having to undo everything they did to her. 1 thing is desensitizing her to anything and everything I can think of, or my kids can think of. We built a small pen inside the main pen to work her, and feed her in. That way I can make sure she gets to eat real food and not scraps. Little girl found out real quick I'm not going to deprive her of food. I don't care how frustrated, and irritated I am at someone. If you're here at dinner time you're gonna get fed lol. The mini is the polar opposite of my haflinger mare. Where you could set off a bomb next to my haflinger she'd just go on eating, and look to see if the bomb was edible and not care. This mini is spooky, and quick to run. Slowly I'm going to earn that trust, and then I'll get her to calm down and be chill hopefully like my haflinger. Right now my haflinger gives her a "are you seriously scared of that stick that's been laying right there for the last hour" looks when she spooks at little things. Time, patience, and me watching videos to do even more desensitization on both girls will help. Now to only get a darn halter on her. I've spent a week trying to get a halter on her. Oh well it doesn't matter how long it takes I will get one on her, and I will earn the trust we need to further both of us.

Suzy Homesteader my horse has no reason😂 he’s a chubby retired lesson horse😂 he is only 12, and I don’t think he’s ever had any desensitization done. He spooks at me T.T😂

@@anioop7755 oh dear. Just work your horse, and slowly introduce things to them. They'll feel so much better for it. Just be relaxed about it. My mini I have to do everything from the start on. She doesn't understand anything right now.
