I’ve used this clamp ideal for 7/8 years on my 2008 Tacoma, 50 cent clamp vs $130.00 pop lock. Never lost a tailgate yet.

Useful mods for sure. Heavy key rings or small carabiners on the grab handles will let the headrest sit flush.

I purchased and installed my tuff skinz gashole last week and it was the same. Carbon fiber. Trying to match my magnetic gray metallic taco. I like watching your mod videos for ideas. We kinda pick the same things. Keep em coming!

The grab handle are a nice touch. I personally would've gone with a flush set-up. Last one is a must if you have a older tacoma without a locking tailgate.

Excellent suggestion on modifications. I worry my tailgate is going to be stolen so I make sure I aways lock it however with this new trick it adds an extra layer of security. Thanks for sharing.

Nice vids, Chloe. Definitely recommend picking up the OEM power tailgate lock (about $130) online - wish these were standard. Pretty simple install and good peace of mind for for security.

As mentioned, get the hose clamp with the "yellow" key. Actually uses a 8mm or 10mm socket instead of a screwdriver. Pull the yellow key off before install. Adds a little extra step of security.

Those are great mods for folks just getting started so they can enjoy working on their trucks 🙂 Have you considered doing an onboard air compressor like one of the ARB models for when you air down your tires on a trail run? Certainly pretty useful. Thanks for your vids Chloe....looking forward to your next one.

Thanks! I have been looking at an ARB. Currently, I've been just using a Makita battery-powered air pump which is nice and compact, but also takes a while to air up/down all 4 tires.

You can also put a washer behind the bolts where the cables from the tailgate attach to the bed. It's another way to slow down a thief. Instead of just slipping the cable off the bolt, they would have to completely remove the bolt or cut the cable (hard to do since it's metal) in order to remove the tailgate.

Hey Chloe I have a 2016 Tacoma SR5 access cab and I just had a remote start installed 3 weeks ago sure come in handy in the cold days that we've had here in Maine have you the led tailgate light bar anyways have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year let's hope 2021 is better

Sabellco makes a nice tailgate hinge lock. Fits like a glove, but is a bit pricey at $85.

Very nice never even thought about the hose clamp on the tailgate I rarely leave mine unlocked but thats good to know just in case. I might get the gas cap holder and the paracord handles even though I have a hammock for my dog it would still be nice to have but who ever rides in the back would have to sit in the middle can't move my seat up I'm too tall for thats. Did it once with my dads truck and it was dangerous not being able to reach the brake pedal.

Tailgate Lock: McGard makes them that have a key similar to lug nut locks for install and removal. I installed one on my 2011 Tacoma shortly after purchase. However, I also installed a pop lock to lock my tailgate; mine doesn’t have that newer key lock tailgate handle. Using the pop lock allows me to lock/unlock using the RKE system. 👍🏻 That heat shrink is a clever use. I may consider that gas cap holder option just for shits and giggles. My clip still works great. I’d consider their Subdued American flag if I get one. As for those “oh shit!” handles, I’d rethink those a bit. Maybe a different mounting option that doesn’t restrict the headrest from sitting all the way down. Maybe using an eyelet grommet like you see on tarps will work better... Love your Taco‼️👍🏻😉

PopNLock is a much better option than the hose clamp and is pretty inexpensive

Best mod is to lose the tailgate and install a tail net. Better gas mileage and better hauling options. If you are going to haul something of extreme value in the bed, you should have gotten a SUV.

Why add a step to a simple task.? Remember the K.I.S,S. method......... Keep It Simple, Stupid. Not an insult, just an old, wise saying. Toyota provided the simplest gas cap 'out-a-the way system'.

The other option was to let it just dangle and scratch my paint up or pull the line and hang it on the clasp that it was clearly not designed for (the connecting line had to be oriented a specific way for it to reach). Now I just insert it into the little hole when I take it off. Much better design.

@@duvalpenny100 The tether on my Tacoma's gas cap has a 'crook' in it that allows it to hang on the door catch. Another method better than the cap holder demo'd here would be two small wire ties that cost less than 1/2 a cent attached properly to the tether. Also, the demo'd item is going to have the road dust or trail dust wiped from it each fill up or get the dirt on your cap's threads. The demo'd cap holder is ridiculous and just a clever way to get money from your pocket into the maker of the idiotic device. K.I.S.S.= 2 half cent wire ties.

Chloe, you have some good video. I have used the hose clamp mod on the tail gate. Good idea for a quick and easy fix to stop a thief. I did this until I got something better. Tacoma World has a clamp that bolts on am over the cam to prevent removal. Cost 25 dollars. I installed on my and buddies 2020 and 2021 Tacoma. Fyi, The clamp for the 2nd gen is different than the 3rd gen. Once you install it makes it almost impossible to steal . Check it out. There is a you tube video on this too

First off big fan...Just installed a DYI pop lock on the tailgate today, bought actuator off amazon for 8 buck and wire for 11 ,works with key fob...very easy, you should look into it and do a vid.

I just leave my tailgate locked😂 it locks automatically when you drive a little bit along with the doors. Plus a bed cover so no one can just reach in that a little more but just simply locking your tailgate is enough

I like the gas cap mod. and I think you may be able to use a hair dryer on high setting on your heat shrink.? It's been a long time since I have used heat shrink.

After you install the hose clamp, damage the threads with vise grips or something so if a thief even wanted to remove the hose clamp they couldn't unscrew the clamp screw. If you would ever want to take the tailgate off you would have to cut the hose clamp.

Hello. I am new to the Toyota Tacoma family. I just bought a 2021 Tacoma Off Road 4X4. I have never owned/driven one before, prior I drove a 2007 Jeep Commander. So, I need some guidance on the 4x4 system and how and when to use the different selections. If you could guide me to a great video that explains how to use the system of make a video on how to use the system it would be great for me and any other first time Tacoma drivers. Love the videos. I'm still learning as well! But I'm planning on making a video about how to do some basic off-road stuff/how to effectively use the different controls and selections (4Lo, rear locker, multi-terrain select, etc) to get the most out of your driving experience. I myself am a beginner and fairly new to the Tacoma, but sharing what I know may be able to help someone out!

Chloe, a quick question. Just subscribed! I’m not interested in paying an $8 month subscription for a sub par remote start- that turns your truck off when you open the door. Anyone know of another remote start that is inexpensive and compatible with the 2020 Tacoma, maybe even a self install or one that runs off an app to link to truck?

Toyota offers the tailgate to be locked with the truck in the accessories for $169. Should be free imo 🤦🏼
