The building owner should be accountable for these conditions. No human being should have to put up with these kind of living conditions just because its low income. They are still people for crying out loud. I am glad you are there to help them Barbie ❤

I think some of the responsibility needs to fall on the landlords and property managements they need to do at least twice a year inspections on these apartments. Also roaches in the like even when you move out travel to different apartments so when emptying these trash that had mice as well as roaches you need to be very careful as you're going down hallways and disposing of the trash because they jump off and then go into other apartments. Again that's why I think it's very important for these apartment management or landlords to have at least yearly inspections.

People shouldn't judge:( they've obviously never had their hope ripped away & left empty. Or through something that makes them lose themselves 😔 its easy to just give up sometimes..its harder to get back up after falling hard. Thank you so much for helping this precious soul. May she have a better journey. You gave her the reins of her life back into her hands. You're hopefully that helping hand that she needed to get back on her feet. This was sad to watch:( I couldn't imagine living everyday like that. You have a good heart❤ and brave..I wouldnt of been able to do that with the bugs

I have never lived in NYC but I have friends that have and the rent is so high ! The spaces you are cleaning even infested would probably house a family of four in each bedroom and the poor families would happily share the kitchen and bath! And of course now that NYC has the immigrant problem tossed in with the homeless, what a salad that makes! So glad Magic told me about your channel ! Wonder what he would do there without all the corn dust, cause its really horrible atm ! None of his videos show him jumping over mice to clean! You are certainly the best and need to make a dance like Magic all about mice underfoot and spin kicking them into cages to be shipped to the cornfields where we have some pretty wonderful birds of prey and foxes etc !!!🦊🦅🐾🦉none of 🦖but I hear strange sounds from the cornfields!

That apartment could be really cute if kept clean. I see they have 2 young dogs, they should not have animals, they can’t take care of themselves, how can they take care of dogs?? I do hope they move, they deserve a better life. Barbie, how do you get rid of all those garbage bags?? Does the building have a big garbage area?? Why didn’t they take the garbage out that they bagged themselves. I don’t understand. Getting rid of the garbage on a daily basis would reduce the mouse problem a lot. They need to put down mouse traps and cockroach traps… Also, they need to try moving the big appliances to clean under them. Actually, it would have been good to see the room they had kept sort of clean for comparison.

After picking up and disposing of the trash I would have called an exterminator to get rid of the roaches and mice. After that was done I would then do the cleaning.

My skin was crawling when she moved that bag in the kitchen. I hope the landlord can step in and fumigate. It’s an apartment, meaning the other tenants also have the mice and roaches. They spread quickly!

@dls64 I dunno, but I would have set them aside in a box, and after sweeping that corner clean, make a little nest with paper towels in a bowl, and place it back in that corner so the mom can come back for them 🤷‍♀️ (maybe overnight, when the place is quiet).

My husband worked as a service tech traveling to many homes and it doesn't matter if you live in an apartment or a $500,000 home, if you leave food out the critters will find it. He used to come home with horror stories about very expensive homes being filled with trash, animal feces, and dirty diapers. Wealthy or struggling these conditions are everywhere.

Cockroaches and mice don't come from dirt, filth trash or food though. Those things exacerbate the problem if they've found a way into the home but they don't cause it. You could be the cleanest person alive and still get an infestation. On the other hand, if the critters don't find a way in first, then no matter how dirty the house, there is no pest problem. I have worked for people who were absolutely filthy and they never got bugs because the bugs never managed to get into their home. I have also seen people who were relatively clean that got roaches because they came in from the grocery store or an amazon box or what not. Also, mice will only come in if there is an opening in the house big enough. You could have a house littered with food and if mice can't get in, then there isn't going to be a mice problem. When you have a pest infestation in an apartment building you have to treat all the units at the same time otherwise they move from one area to another. You kill some, but most will escape by moving through the walls to the next unit. It's such a sad situation. No one should live like that. Thanks for helping them :-)

Exactly. That would be considered a health risk in the UK & the local Council Environmental Health Dept would order the landlord to sort the issue or face Court & huge fines.

@@sarahholland2600 In the US this is also a health hazard and the city will get involved, there can be so many reasons why they haven't addressed this and this is just awful for these tenants. Very sad conditions. Sometimes these buildings are run by the city. I think the Covid issues we went through just made things worse.The restaurants closed and they found the next best thing, peoples homes. There you have it a major, major infestation. PS We're going to the UK in September, can't wait. Tracing my ancestors from Scotland to Ireland to Britain. Then off to France which my Great Aunt adored. I am beside myself with great joy! My Great Aunt was a well known children's author who won the Carnegie Award in 1939. Her portrait hangs in the King's School where she was Headmistress. I heard she was a spitfire.

yeah I think that whole building needs to be tented and bug bombed to drive all the infestation out. And those walls are gross even after cleaning. But she did what she was supposed to do. Someone definitely needs to take care of the pest problem and fixing of drywall etc.

You would think they would care about structural damage, plumbing issues, pests, etc. People living in this filth have mental issues that are best dealt with sooner rather than later. If I were their landlord it would never get to this for her safety and that of all the other tenants.

Barbie, you are a brave woman. I could not even walk in there. You should have probably wore a hazmat suit to protect your clothing and skin from all of those germs. You might want to think about contacting the health department on that building. Nobody should have to live with mice and roaches like that, and not have a connected sink to the plumbing. I suspect the NY Health department is part of the problem- they turn a blind eye and yet moan about the rat problem. If they enforced reasonable standards on all landlords the issue would be reduced. Piling up plastic bags on the streets doesn’t help either - rubbish should only be in metal bins with lids, or solid plastic with lids- something rodents can’t get into. It’s only common sense.

She walked in the door & made several derogatory remarks, cussed at her, left and told everyone what she saw & called social services. She reached out for help & got slapped in the face. It’s so sad that the pest infestations will never be fixed until the whole building is treated properly. It ruins the whole place. I’ve heard it’s common in New York apartments. Both mice and roaches multiply quickly. These people living through this are so strong and so brave to ask for help. I hope their lives improved from this cleaning and they can get a safer place to live

Brilliant job again Barbie. It’s criminal what these landlords get away with in New York; the electric sockets always look dangerous in these apartments and the plumbing always has issues. Now the place is tidy you could suggest to the renters to get the janitor/manager up there to deal with the problem. I feel sad for those dogs living in that condition. It’s also sad that people get in such a state they can’t even take the rubbish outside to the bin.

I'm quite sure the neighbors were complaining, especially the roaches and rodents. Everything there was contaminated and have to be discarded. I watch hoarders. It's a truly sad 😢 situation. I think this is the saddest cleaning video I’ve ever seen. No human being or animal deserves to live this way. The amount of bugs and rodents was astonishing to me. You really did an amazing job on this place. It's tough working on places like this because the roach and mice infestation is probably a problem throughout the entire building, and getting rid of the problem in this apartment alone will never be a permanent solution for the tenants until the entire building's problem is addressed.

The dogs looked so happy too❤ The thing that upsets me is how badly the local government is failing their low income people. No one should have to live in these conditions! The whole building should be evacuated and tented and sprayed for bugs and mice. Clearly once that is done, they need to do a ton of Renos as well. Plumbing and electrical. How could the authorities ever think this is acceptable? I am sending this young lady all of my love. She deserves a happy long successful life. I wish her well

@@Rachel-ul8et I’m not really sure what your point is? Barbie said a lot of low income places live like this with roaches and mice. Blaming the tenant is NoT the answer. For example; who is responsible for plumbing issues? Surely that isn’t the tenants fault too? Growing up my family was very poor. We lived with mice and all kinds of bugs and my Mom was a Clean Queen. There is only so much you can do if no one is willing to take proper care of the building itself. Point being, THE RODENTS AND BUGS WILL NEVER BE ERADICATED IF THE CITY DOESN’T CARE!!! I am passionate about this because we had to live like this too! Clearly people living in low income also suffer from mental health issues, abuse, disabilities etc so more than half the time they are struggling already. What they need is more support not judgement or blame❤️

Wow. No one should have to live like this, and I hope she gets the help she needs. I don't know how it was able to get this bad living in an apartment building. My landlords are always in and out of my unit for one reason or the other, so they would know pretty quickly if my unit looked like this. You did a great job cleaning, but all those roaches ran into other apartments, and the entire building is probably now infected.

The building was probably already infested. In shared living spaces it's very difficult to keep roaches out once they get in. She mentioned the other apartments had trouble too with the roaches and mice.

My Husband is a Bug Man. He has worked in the Pest Control industry for 30 years. He said that he has never seen any place this bad. Hope they got the help they needed. Great job at cleaning !!!! ✌🏻♥️

You just did what I would have refused to do. Growing up we had roaches but not like that. To this day I hate those things and would not, or could not have entered that apartment. It gives me shivers to think about it. I'm sure the young residents were very appreciative of your hard work, though. Well done.

NYC is the landlord and they do not wanna fix nothing in those apartments (in every borough). I live in NYC and have family members/friends who live in housing. It’s an uphill battle

If this is low income housing, the landlord can be reported to Health and Human Services and Housing and Urban Development. Federal law mandates that housing has to be safe and sanitary.

@@cleanwithbarbie I was thinking maybe wear a bathing suit under your clothes and then strip down to that before getting in your car. Wear all throwaway clothes and gym shoes. That's how worried I'd be about bringing any critters into the car and your home. Scary.

@@cleanwithbarbie My DH works in pest control and often treats homes like this. Bringing roach eggs home on the bottom of your shoes is a real danger. He has a pair of work shoes that he leaves in his work truck and changes into home shoes before coming home. Bless you for your compassion in doing this work. Not many people would attempt this.

I had to come back to tell you after watching this video and hearing you mention cleaning with Easy Off over cleaner I decided to try it. I could not believe how easy it was with just paper towels. I did use a brillo pad on the inside of my oven door and it took seconds to get it clean. Thanks for telling us what you use

The humans living in that condition, but also dogs .. those people should be out of this appartment , it need to be fix, there is an infectation problem, dogs should be able to live in a nice , clean enviroment, too. ... terrible condition and Barbie, you need to wear special clothes when entering in places like that, you could get infected and could be very bad for your health

As I watch I just think how hard it must be to try and clean for the people that live there. Knowing no matter what they can never trust that a surface is clean unless they just sprayed it. It is no wonder you would just give up.

Edited: Barbie you did a tremendous an excellent job. I encourage you Barbie to familiarize yourself with the assistance (social workers, health dept) that is available in NY, and the rules governing landlords, typically a residential rental unit cannot have rodents, roaches, or holes in the walls, or a disconnected sink, and there are agencies to help. I understand the people may not wish to complain however after the unit is "trashed out" ( a real estate term where the trash is removed typically a large quantity) and cleaned, follow up needs to be done, also this person may need IHSS (in home social services) depending on their mental/ emotional/ physical health. There are lots of services you just need to figure which ones there are and encourage the tenants to access them.

@@akgg5086 honestly it's probably a mix of existing pest infestation that spun out of control when the trash began piling up. Personally I think the apartment owners managers need to do inspections every 3 months, based on these videos. This is crazy, trash chutes etc are available to
