Someone that knows what they're doing doesn't need to pay for a professional. I've successfully pulled stumps a few times, and never had damage. There's a trick to it that makes it easier, and with less chance of the slingshot effect causing damage or injury. You don't put the strap on the stump like is in the picture. You put it over the top, then down the back side, and hook to a large root or two on the back side after digging down far enough. When pulled, this rolls the stump out of the ground and uses leverage, so that the pull vehicle doesn't need to snatch hard.
ANYONE with an ounce of common sense would have told him that , I could have removed it for nothing simply with a 44 Gallon Drum - some waste wood and a match , instead of putting it through the back window since it was rotten anyway. Some people are just too stupid to be allowed to own or operate vehicles

+Tom Willard But Why just burn the stump out believe me it WILL remove the stump and cause far less angst. I cannot fathom the various stump grinding machines around , all you got do is burn them out
+mozzmann Well burning would take more time, right? I've had the stump pulled, dug the hole out some, buried the stump in the hole, covered over the stump, and had a little fill dirt left over to use elsewhere in no more than an hour. Of course, in some circumstances like when putting in a foundation, you wouldn't want to bury the stump. But it's still quicker either way.
