You do such a great job with your reviews. The Solo Stove looks really amazing. Love how it is almost like a gasification stove. Probably going to let your playlist run all night to bump your watch time too.

Thanks Dan. Yes the Solo Stoves are great and actually are gasifier stoves, so you nailed it with that comment. They are not great packing pits for camping unless you use the smaller camp stove versions, but nothing consumes wood like the Solos do.

Still the best fire pit review on RU-vid. Thanks! They make smaller versions of each of these now. Have mini versions of the Fireside and Snow Peak now. Probably will get a Solo Stove Ranger in the future.

Thanks for the kind words. We actually own the Trailblazer (small Fireside Outdoor Pit) and the Solo Stove Ranger. Maybe worth a video comparing those two. In the meantime if you are interested I did a Ranger video about the possibility of taking it camping (before some of the new accessories were released). You can see it here but happy to answer any questions you might have. Might also check out my Solo Stove size video if that would be helpful. If you have not seen the Snow Peak Takibi Solo I will link that as well. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-xG51W5dLrQ0.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-lvIyHTnLU9w.html ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-jczaClydwEI.html

To cook over the solo pit you can use a tri pod set up such as Chad from living the van life uses. He cooks with a Dutch oven, you can also rig up a flat grill on the tri pod. All extra stuff but it’s doable. Thanks for the great reviews love the back yard, very peaceful space.
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 3 года назад
Hey James, thanks for the comment. You are absolutely correct in that you can rig up cooking devices over the solo stove-treat it almost like a ground fire from that regard. Perhaps I should have been a bit more precise in my comment as my intention was to point on that there was no cooking solution offered for the Bonfire by Solo directly as opposed to the other pits and that provides clues as to the intended uses that the designers had for their specific pits. Thanks for the clarification.

my friend brought the solo stove to our annual beach house/camp. He spent the whole night trying to get this thing started. Other than that the solo stove big negative is it was too bulky AND it got extremely hot. if you brushed up against it with your leg or hand you will get burned. My pop up firepit on the other hand started immediately because i think there is way more airflow. It was light and extremely easy to pack. The aluminum rails nor the base expanding legs did NOT get hot. Warm to the touch and you will not get burned. So my biggest takeaway from using both the solostove and pop up fire pit is that the solo was too bulky and the unit gets way too hot. The pop-up is very compact and doesn't get hot to the touch. In fact we wanted to move the popup to another area of the yard and two of us just picked it up by its legs and just moved it...even with the fire going. Can't do this with the solo.
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 Год назад
All valid points to consider. I am not sure why your friend had trouble getting the Solo lit as that has never been an issue, but anything can happen. All three are well worth consideration but are not interchangeable in usage in my opinion.

Awesome review!!! Didn't know about the steel screen sagging especially due to its larger size. That is definitely something to consider. They have come out with a smaller Pop Up but that is just a little too small (12x12). They need to have a medium LOL. Any you did a great job. Love the Fire Pit Porn!!!
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 3 года назад
I am glad you enjoyed it. The screen sag just requires a new screen every year-about $20 (or 50 fires I think they say)
@Saltfly
@Saltfly Год назад
If you clean the screen after every trip, and store it without ash, it will last way longer than 50 fires. I’ve had at least a hundred fires in mine. The screen sags when it’s brand new. It’s designed that way to keep the the fire in the center.

Thanks for the video you just helped me pull the trigger on the popup pit. You should check out the Ace engineering bond fire pit that unfolds like the snow peak, but it mounts to the JK tailgate. I have a tailgate table so I didn’t get it.

@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 3 года назад
Sorry for the delay-I checked out that Ace pit-very clever idea. I had never seen that one before but it seems to be right on the money. I use a couple different vehicles (the JK and a Raptor) when I go camping so every bit of my kit is portable between the two but I sure like the concept.

@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 3 года назад
Hey Bill, thanks for commenting. What would I take bushcrafting-probably none of these assuming by bushcraft you mean hiking and being self contained on foot. In that case I don't think these pits fit the bill. Check out my video on the Pop-Up bit vs the Trailblazer as that might be one you could take as it is smaller and light weight. If you don't wish to build a ground fire the Wolf & Grizzly Fire Safe might work for you. Let me know which direction you go and what you think.

Great Review! the foldable fire pit is the best. I have one as well and have been using it for about 5 years now. :) With that solo stove, try sprinkling some of that "Flaming Magic" powder. ;) (but don't cook when you put that stuff on the fire!!!) .... it's bit toxic I think. Cheers!

@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 2 месяца назад
Hahah, you may be right, especially if you add the cooking accessories to the Snow Peak. In reality the Snow Peak pit folds flat so does pack much easier than the Solo and the Flora is a separate case. I find the Snow Peak more versatile but am lucky to have both so I can pick and choose when to use either.

@dickinaroundoutdoors8609
@dickinaroundoutdoors8609 Год назад
They are definitely different than a pit with an open bottom. They put out massive heat up and sorta out from the top but if you like to snuggle the toes close to the fire they are not really great at that. Solo does now make an attachment designed to disperse the heat that comes out the top but I have never used or seen one.

LMAO-they all have their pluses and minuses for sure! Solo has done a lot with add-ons that try to accommodate these issues but to me that makes it more tied to the patio and less of a camping/overlanding item than before. I do use their camp stoves however for camp cooking and they work pretty well. Thanks for checking us out.
