Actual Oil Change Procedure Starts - 6:50
Use the below timestamps to skip to each section:
Step 1 - Get bike to operating temperature
Step 2 - Get bike on wheel chock
Step 3 - Layout tools & supplies
Step 4 - Setup drain pan & towels
Step 5 - Remove engine oil, transmission, and primary case plugs (6:53)
Step 6 - Inspect plugs for metal debris (7:58)
Step 7 - Unscrew oil and transmission caps to release pressure for faster drain flow (8:10)
Step 8 - Replace O-rings on all 3 plugs with pick tool (8:24)
Step 9 - Remove derby cover (9:08)
Step 10 - Replace derby cover gasket (9:39)
Step 11 - Remove engine oil filter (9:59)
Step 12 - Let everything drain for a while
Step 13 - Screw primary plug back in (10:21)
Step 14 - Fill up primary fluid (10:39)
Step 15 - Screw derby cover back on in star sequence (11:02)
Step 16 - Prep oil filter by filling 1/2 of it and rubbing fresh oil on the gasket seals (11:40)
Step 17 - Screw engine oil and transmission plug back in (11:53)
Step 18 - Fill transmission fluid (12:45)
Step 19 - Put transmission cap back on (13:11)
Step 20 - Fill engine oil (13:39)
Step 21 - Put engine oil cap back on (14:00)
Step 22 - Twist on new engine oil filter (14:09)
Step 23 - Empty out the drain pan to oil container for recycle
Step 24 - Clean areas contaminated by oil with brake cleaner (engine areas, exhaust)
Step 25 - Go on a easy ride to check functionality and bring to operating temperature. Put the bike back on jiffy stand, wait a couple minutes and check engine oil and transmission fluid levels. Add more if needed.
Tip: 1 quart = 32oz

Thanks my friend. Your video is very encouraging. Mine is a 2023 Breakout 117. I watch videos for 114, and when I checked mine, the location of the screws/plugs are different. I appreciate your work putting up this video.

Just a quick tip my dude, at least break free the derby cover bolts before draining the primary. That way if one of them strips out, you can still ride it to get fixed. I usually go ahead and pull the derby cover completely off before draining the primary

I just did my 2022 LRS and it took 4qts oil, 1qt transmission/gear oil, and 1qt primary/gear oil. good to go

can we confirm the torque specs on the drain plugs are in fact FT lbs, and not IN lbs?

great video! straight to the point! . however I just have one question. My softail is at 5000 miles. Do I need to change the primary and transmission fluid? The owners manual says at 10k miles to do the primary lubricant. And 20k to do the transmission lubricant. Would it hurt to change the primary and transmission and engine oil all at once with only 5000 miles?

I did all the steps and all the fluids are at the correct level, but I noticed I had a squealing noise coming from the bottom of my right foot whenever I released the clutch and it was in the friction zone… only does it when initially taken off from first gear and stops after that… once I got to my garage I released the clutch in the friction zone off and on… it seemed to disappear after going on a short ride. I had to go to work so I couldn’t try it out again, but I guess I’ll see after I get home if it comes back. Any idea what that might’ve been?

Almost similar to when a car has a squeaky serpentine belt, it’s a 2020 Lowrider s with only 2000 miles on it, that may have been its 1st oil change, don’t know if that has anything to do with it, but just seemed odd

90% sure this sound was coming from the air intake now that I’m listening closer to it. Seems like it was just air sucking into the intake.
