Sorry I keep commenting, but I keep listening and your story is so similar to mine. I too was a part of the hippy generation, and knew Baptism for the remission of sins is necessary. I went to a Billy Graham program and went forth to be saved, and they told me all I had to do was accept Jesus. I said, no, that isn't right, what about repentance, Baptism, the gift of the Holy Ghost? And what about all those people that never heard of Christ? Are they damned? That isn't My God, my God is fair and loving. Thanks again brother!

As a young Missionary, I studied many books as well as the Bible, along with history of the early church. I entered a few "Bible Bash" sessions and immediately I could feel the spirit withdraw as contention grew. I learned very quickly that no one can be argued into the truth. The truth can be presented and the Spirit can testify of it. I soon just let the shouting and contention run off me like water off a ducks back. Keep bearing your testimony, I love your videos.

I was a member of the LDS church for 40 years before I really understood what it was to search for truth no matter where it would take me…. I searched for a good two years and found myself back where I started in the LDS church, but this time with a better understanding of how precious the church is. I am grateful for your honesty. Would that all people would look for truth as you have and not take the word of others when their salvation is on the line, but find out for themselves by reading the Book of Mormon. God is not dead and is more than capable of giving more light to his children whether through scripture or by the spirit he is talking constantly to his children. Thank you also for helping us to understand where our evangelical brothers and sisters are coming from. We desperately need to come together to understand each other so that we can help the lost of this world.

I was born and raised in the church. I took four years of seminary in high school. I love the gospel and it’s every part of my life. You inspire me with your knowledge and testimony. You are right: many of us don’t know the Bible as well as we should. I was inspired by our most recent prophet who gave us the challenge and instruction on “how to study the scriptures”. Turns out I discovered the previous prophet Pres Hunter gave us instructions how many years earlier. And COVID was a blessing because I made the effort with my extra time. I’m nowhere near where I wish I was. You have to put the world aside and make the gospel a priority. I am glad you recognize the truth. We need you to help us common members step it up because there’s so much more there than we realize.

David, you should write a book! You have a wealth of knowlege and the experience from evangelical practice to help a lot of your brothers find the same light you have. These videos are great and I feel the spirit as you share them.

One of, if not the most defining beliefs of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is expressed in a children’s song…”I am a child of God”. Our beliefs and relationships flow naturally because of our knowledge that we are loved by God…every other doctrine rests upon this assumption. What seems harsh, remote, unfair and obscure about God in other places becomes the opposite in the light of this beautiful truth.

We need more people like you! Fresh eyes to light a fire under all of us members who are complacent and disillusioned at times. I love your videos. I am currently working with a lady who is Christian and insists she is saved and thinks I am doomed because I belong to this church cult. So it is very difficult to get through to her. She is afraid of the book of Mormon. She and her sister read parts of it which as you say they pick and choose and take things out of context and insist its evil etc. I don't no how to get past that with her. So unfortunately it has affected my relationship with her as a friend. 😢 So glad you have made these wonderful videos. I also work at the churches thrift store in UT and one of these Christian types you mentioned came in and was shopping. She said the Lord had told her I was a wonderful gifted woman. I believe she may have been told that, but when she found out I was a member of the church she said my church was evil. This is a rampant problem because they will never see the light this way. You are an inspired teacher. Thank you so much. I have half of my family that has gone atheist. They tried other churches and found them all lacking but the church requires much sacrifice (mostly the humble heart) and it was to hard. I pray with all my heart that they will allow even a small part of the light back into their hearts.

I'm glad you expressed your gratitude for your Catholic and Evangelical background. One Evangelical argument against the idea of the apostasy and the Bible having translation errors is "God has the power to perfectly preserve His church/word" and I always think: of course he does! And although we believe in the LDS church that Christianity fell into grave error i would still say: Look what God did preserve, and look what He did with that. The Bible and Christianity transformed the world for the better even though the fullness of the gospel was not on the earth. And because the Catholics and then the Protestants preserved and spread what truth they did have, the board was set for the Restoration and the last days. God didn't preserve all, but He preserved enough so that He could one day restore. And this kind of thing happens all throughout the scriptures. Look at the story of Noah's Ark. Look at Elijah and the remnant of 7000 who had not given their hearts to Baal. Look at when King Josiah found the scriptures hidden in the destroyed temple and started a movement to restore Israel to the things written there. So I too am thankful for the Catholic church and the Protestants.

Watched two of your videos and absolutely rejoice in your love for the Word of God. You are preaching Jesus my friend, in truth and spirit and I have been uplifted and edified by the spirit of the Lord in this video. I am LDS, I have witnessed many miracles throughout my life. My evangelist neighbor told me I’m not Christian because I don’t believe in the right Jesus. I told him I didn’t think he believed in the right Jesus. I suggested he look at the history of the Nicene creed. Then I asked, “Why do you suppose I don’t say you’re not Christian?” He said “Why?” I said “That wouldn’t be Christian.” There are only two churches. The church of the Lamb of God and the church of the Devil (see 1 Nephi 14:10). Good evangelists belong to the church of the Lamb. Those who fight against Christ’s true church (including even members of our church) are the church of the Devil. “Wherefore, he that fighteth against Zion, both Jew and Gentile, both bond and free, both male and female, shall perish; for they are they who are the whore of all the earth; for they who are not for me are against me, saith our God” (2 Nephi 10:16). Those missionaries have two weeks in the MTC and four years of Seminary. I’m your age. I went on my mission to Australia in 1976. I knew the scriptures a little. But God gave me a powerful testimony of the Book of Mormon. It was easy to say “Mr. Brown I don’t know everything. But I do know if you will read and pray, God will tell you it is true.” Those who read and prayed joined. It is an easy sell, a Christlike approach, honoring their agency, and his sheep hear his voice. I also, after much prayer and study, received a witness that Joseph Smith died a righteous man. You are right (on another podcast), you don’t need to look at the roots when you know the fruit is good. But if you look at the roots, (with a little patience and faith) you’ll find they’re strong and beautiful. Brother David, keep up the good work. We love your refreshing perspective. We pray for you.

Hello David, I love your videos and all you do. You've inspired me to put together a comprehensive document on the trinity. So far I have over 2 dozen separate scriptural citations that refute the trinity.

A thought...and question...for you, Zane... I find it so odd....that people llike Apologia Studios Jeff...and even you...think that the test of Orthodoxy that is so important...that it decides if someone is even saved or not...going to eternal torment or to heavenly glory...is whether they believe that God is numerically one...but with three persons...even though such a thing is not AT ALL laid out clearly in the Word of God at all as a condition of salvation....but that these totally simple and clear statements of Jesus, and of His beloved disciple John....are somehow NOT upheld AT ALL...as standards for judging if someone is of God and a true disciple....or not... Jesus said....you will KNOW who are truly His disciples...by their love. Period. Is that true? Or not? John said...in defining God, and defining for all time, the standard for who is "born of God and knoweth God"...John said this, in 1 John 4:7,8, written probably when he was about 90 years old or older...as the most "seasoned" disciple and true Apostle.... one could possibly imagine! Beloved....let us love one another, For love is of God, and EVERYONE WHO LOVETH, IS BORN OF GOD, AND KNOWETH GOD; HE THAT LOVETH NOT, KNOWETH NOT GOD, FOR GOD IS LOVE. Zane, these are simple, clear, totally true statements of "doctrine", about how to KNOW who truly "is born of God and knoweth God"...and who isn't born of God and doesn't truly know Him. And of course...it has to be understood in light of Jesus definition of love in John 15:11-14 and John's definition of love in 1 John 3:14,16...the love by which we can know that we have passed from death unto life...is the self-denying love for the sake of others, that is only by true faith...that is the very essence of God and of His Beloved Son. So yes or no Zane...if someone has a heart to love like the Father and the Son... and are, by faith, doing so, however faultily...are they "born of God, and knoweth God"? Or not? And if someone...doesn't have that kind of heart...to deny themselves daily and continually for the sake of others and for the sake of the Kingdom...is it true that whoever, "loveth not...knoweth NOT God.....for God IS LOVE"? Is it true that such a person, no matter their Doctrine...if they don't live a life of self-denying love, for Christ's sake and the Gospel's sake...that they DO NOT KNOW GOD NOR ARE THEY EVEN BORN OF HIM? Isn't this God's TRUE STANDARD? Love? If you want to qualify...or disqualify...yourself...or anyone else...based on "doctrine" about God...shouldn't THIS be the beginning and the end of it? What you truly believe...is what you DO...and if you are not at least on the path of learning to love just as Jesus Christ and as His Father...you don't know Him and are not born of Him. This is the only TEST given in the Word, as far as I know...regarding "doctrine of God" that determines if a person is born of Him and knows Him...or not. The Worst thing about the Doctrine of the Trinity...is not just that it was not taught by either God in the OT or by Jesus or the Apostles in the NT....the worst part of it...is that it REPLACED SELF-DENYING LOVE FOR THE BRETHREN AND FOR THE LOST...AS THE STANDARD, BY WHICH "CHRISTIANS" WERE TO JUDGE THEMSELVES AND ALL OTHERS AS TO "WHETHER THEY WERE IN THE FAITH". MENTAL ASSENT TO THE CREEDS AND TRINITARIANISM...REPLACED HAVING THE LIFE OF THE TRUE LOVE OF GOD THAT MAKES MANY ONE...AS THE STANDARD! AND THAT IS A CRYING SHAME... and THAT IS THE VERY FOUNDATION...OF THE APOSTASY OF THE CHURCH THAT HAPPENED IN THE SECOND CENTURY. THE EARLY CHURCH DID NOT "LOSE THEIR FIRST DOCTRINE"....NO,THEY "LOST THEIR FIRST LOVE". And they fell away, and replaced the standard of love...which they had fallen away from...with the standard of the Creeds and Trinitarian doctrine...which anyone could give assent to...without giving up their life and denying themselves in true faith....to follow Christ in living a life of self-denying love by the power of the Spirit. This is what happened. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS! MUCH LOVE, DAVID

Thank you David for teaching about the early church and how the Apostasy took place so soon after the Apostles were taking away…. Most of us need to relearn some of this to bolster our testimony and conversion to the Gospel of Jesus Christ and feel the Spirit testify to us of these truths again. As we have seen from the Bible and history God has to restore through prophets the truths and the ordinances lost or corrupted by the apostasy present.

Further distinction: Christ did not say the gates of hell would not prevail against the Church. He said hell could not prevail against the rock of revelation--nor can it. But the Church may cease relying upon the blessed revelation of the Father... and instead turn to "flesh and blood" to "reveal" unto them what is so called wisdom and right.

Well done David, Your explanation of the darkness that led to the Nicaean Council was masterful and like you said is proof of the great apostasy. I would point out that the Council at Nicaea didn't end the argument between Athanasius and Arius and it continued for over 100 years. From my readings on the subject, Constantine leaned toward Arianism in his later years and his son Constantius, who succeeded him, strongly supported Arian doctrines. Both schools of thought, and many others since then, are the philosophies of men, mingled with scripture. I am grateful for your zeal and testimony of the restored gospel found in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints & that the true nature of the Godhead has been revealed in this, the dispensation of the fullness of times. It is wonderful to see the growth of your testimony from "I like what I see" in this video. To where it is now as a devout member of the Lord's true Church. Keep up your great work.

4:08 I was a missionary from 2008-2010 back when we had three weeks of training. But I opened the scriptures and read a lot and ended up having a gift for understanding the scriptures I now know is part of the gift of the holy ghost but that's the reputation I had among the other missionaries and they would call me if they had any questions they couldn't answer. So when I meet Jeff one day it will likely be iron sharpening iron.

For sometimes now, I have been watching some videos of some Evangelical chrsitians too and although I enjoy watching people coming to Christ through these videos, there was some point of doctrines I could not agree with because of the doctrines we believe in as LDS. But one thing I love despite our differences is the fact when we call upon the name of our Savior and Heavenly Father, we can find peace in our lives. Keep posting these awesome videos. Baptism, “I think I just got wet” I can’t stop laughing.

Many years ago I served an LDS mission in Central Florida. There was a lot of resistance to our message by Evangelicals so overtime I spent much of my studding the New Testament not realizing what the gems I would find. While I lived in an area of the U.S. that was heavily populated with other LDS people, it allowed me to have release-time seminary. I didn't need to go to the early morning stuff most members went to outside of Idaho and Utah. But I was immature and never took full advantage to learn my scriptures as I should have. So my mission study of the New Testament was like a whole new world. I had no idea how much LDS affirming doctrine was in there, or how much LDS doctrine the Evangelicals was ignored. If we ever brought any of it up, their explanations were weirdly lame. Like with 1 Cor 15:29 on proxy baptisms like you explained in this video. They tried to tell me that Paul was warning them of pagan practices bleeding into the church. When in reality Paul was using it to strengthen his argument on resurrection. I was very surprised at how disingenuous my perceived tormentors were. Jeff, of Apologia Studios (a Calvinist by the way) is very much like this. When it comes to the Missionaries, or any LDS for that matter, he becomes a professional agitator. Like most Evangelicals, they prepare to spar for LDS the most. The one exception may be Jehovah's Witnesses. But since they don't typically argue back and are a little less easy to discern, you don't see them talking much.

David, when you recited biblical scripture to us, you put so much life into it. I feel the Holy Spirit begging me to listen & learn. Please keep doing that because you're teaching me too even though I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

When I was Baptist I wondered why we never took the sacrament. I thought Christ said,This do in remembrance of me. I do remember It was offered once, maybe I'm wrong, but that's what my Southern Baptist church did.

A great book on the history of Trinitarianism is "When Jesus Became God", "The epic Fight over Christ's Divinity in the Last Days of Rome" By Richard E Rubenstein. He is a Jewish historian so he really has no "skin in the game" other than that he is interested in religious conflict. He describes this type of conflict as the biggest until "Stalin vs Trotsky" Thank you David for your podcasts. I am grateful that you have overcome the 47 years of searching. Its amazing to see that all of the scriptures that are in your head have been brought together in perfect harmony through receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost. I would suggest just starting the book "A marvelous Work and a Wonder" by Apostle LeGrande Richards where he takes on the matter of Priesthood Authority head on in the first pages of the book.

Love your explanation of this. Very well presented and thought out. A man who truly loves and knows his scriptures. I hope you can know the Book of Mormon as well as you know the Bible some day. Christ in John 10 talks about those who are a hireling as apposed to the good shepherd. The hireling will abandon the sheep when the wolf comes because they are only getting paid. But the good shepherd gives his life for the sheep because he doesn't do it for money but because he loves the sheep. I think this is their Achilles heel. They are working for money and it clouds their vision because of it. "For the laborer in Zion shall labor for Zion, for if they labor for money they shall perish" 2 Nephi 26:31. Also they were ready to stone Christ, and he asked them I've done many works, for which work do you stone me for? And they said, because you being a man make yourself to be a God. He then quotes Psalms I have said ye are Gods, and all of you are children of the most High. Psalms 82:6 Then he says......isn't that in your scriptures? If he call them Gods why do you stone me for saying I am the Son of God? Do not the Christians say these same things and make these same arguments today? They don't have any idea about the glory and majesty of God and what God is trying to help us become! Keep it up! My wonderful brother in Christ. What a wonderful voice of truth in defending the faith and word of God you are! You are such a blessed joy to hear!

Its amazing how mankind really does have the light of Christ within us, and when we truly search within ourselves, we already know the truth . . . but hearing it said out loud somehow helps formulate the feelings we've always had, into rational thought. It doesnt matter what is being preached to you . . . you know what rings true to you . . . if it doesnt ring true, then why are you ignoring the emptiness and yearning for more. Keep searching for the truth, dont stay where you are just because its comfortable. Do you think Christ's mission was comfortable? Do you think Chirst knew that following Him would be comfortable? "Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me." - Mark 8:34 Jesus Christ acknowledged that each of us will have a cross to bear if we choose to follow Him, but He also promised a peace that only those who do follow Him will ever comprehend . . . "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid." - John 14:27 This is the blessing for those that FOLLOW Him . . . and by Follow, it means to emulate the life of Christ. He not only died for us, but just as importantly, He lived for us . . . that we might know how to live that we might qualify for his Grace and be worthy of living again in the presence of our Heavenly Father once again. Its such a beautiful Gospel! . . . Men are that they might have joy . . not just in the after life, but throughout mortality too.

One thing I don't understand about the trinity point evangelicals make is why this belief is essential for salvation? Do they really believe that when Latter-day saints die, God is going to tell them they are going to hell because they believed that God, Jesus and the holy ghost were different beings but they are actually one?

J. Vernon McGee, himself NOT a Latter-day Saint, said the correct understanding is "gates of Hades" with Hades meaning death, that Christ's church and His work continue for us even beyond our death. We are not "get it right while you're alive, or else doomed". Christ Himself taught those who had already died. This brings us to a matter of proxy baptism for the dead.

Thanks for teaching the truth over the trinity idea. That really helps to clear things up.

The "trinity" has been a HUGE stumbling block for far too many Christians! It's been ironic to discover, while SO many people over the centuries have been deceived by this popular heresy, the real truth is right there in the scriptures -- and those who cling to it are labeled "cultists" !! (I'm going back to re-watch some of David's terrific earliest videos -- so rewarding.)

Finding the truth is a journey, step by step you will find the truth. How can you find the truth if you are not looking for it?

One great reason the Nicean Creed won out over Arianism was that they had lost the knowledge of Christ's existence prior to being born on Earth. Christ existed long before He was born. The Doctrine of the Trinity gets muddy with most Christian discussions. Watch The Chosen to see how that depiction treats the relationship between Christ and His Father. That depiction matches what the Bible shows. Christ wasn't schizophrenic. He is The Son of God and is subordinate to the Father to the extent that They are ONE. That is a great beauty of the truth; that Christ shows us how we need to become one with Him and His Father. We should not hold to the Doctrine of the Trinity, but that of the Unity.

The "gates of hell" in the Greek text is "the gates of Hades" which would be the equivalent of the Hebrew "gates of Sheol". This would be the post-mortal spirit world between death and resurrection. Since we know in the Book of Revelation that death and hell will give up their dead for the final judgment, they will not prevail against the Lord's Church, especially in light of vicarious work for the dead. The gates of hell verse has no reference as to whether the early Christian Church would continue or not. Funny how people cannot accept the plain language of that verse.

David when you get to it, please talk about mercy, justice and accepting the Savior and their relationship. I giggled in one of your video where you question how can you accept the Savior while watching porno get you to heaven. This was in the context, all you need to get to heaven is to accept Christ.

I have seen so many confused trinity believers who can only say God is supernatural so we can't understand Him. So I often ask why would God make Himself complex when the world is already complex. They simply try to hide behind the mystery of God is not to be questioned. Yet God says we must ask if we lack understanding. As you said true believers would have died before accepting the teachings developed at Nicea. Joseph Smith did just that, he died for the truth.

I have a new understanding, gate of hell will not prevail against it. As you said, die will not stop you from learning about Jesus. In that context, hell does not prevail. You will still have the truth of Jesus Christ brought to you. That is why Jesus went to the Sprit prison to open the gate so his teaching will be brought to those who never had an opportunity to hear him. Like my great great great great grandparents who never heard of Jesus Christ. Why would they condemn to hell, but Brandon will go to heaven who heard of but never follow Jesus.

If Jesus wanted people to believe in and understand the concept of the trinity, he did a horrible job, because every reader of the New Testament who hasn't been indoctrinated by trinitarianism understands on an intuitive level the nature of God the Father, Jesus the Son of God, and the Holy Spirit. And frankly, if the trinitarian perspective was fact, and Jesus wanted the world to comprehend it as a fact, and indeed staked their salvation on whether or not they understood the concept of "three persons one essence", after treating the Father as a distinct individual throughout his life, and referring to the Father as a distinct and separate being, as well as the Holy Ghost... well that either the most inept or the least merciful Savior I've ever heard of. It would be quite the scene to see people that sat as his feet get sent to hell because they believed that Jesus was a different being than God the Father. And they would plead, "But you prayed to the father. You talked to him. You called him father... You're telling me you were just talking to yourself?" "Yep. Sorry. Clearly you had faith in a different Jesus." "No... it was literally you. I was one of your followers. I was at your sermon on the mount." "Ya... sorry. If you really had faith in me, you would've understood my whole split personality thing. I mean, I said 'me and the father are one'" "I thought that mean that you had unity with the father. Didn't you say you wanted us to be one in the same way that you are one with the father?" "Ya... and I meant that I wish you guys could be all the same being in different bodies, duh."

Great explanation about prevailing. Another way the not prevailing of the gates of hell is true and the Great Apostacy is no individual who received and followed revelations from Jesus Christ ever suffered for their sins in hell.

I’m always amazed when people do not have a personal relationship with each part of the Trinity by attempt to argue they have any of the keys (wisdom through understanding) of earthly divinity.

John taught/ preached Repentance and Baptism not raising your hands and accepting Jesus into your heart (Luke 3:3 and Mark 1:4) This is how sins are remitted through Christ. Jesus Christ baptised people as well (John 4:1) infact the disciples of John reported this to John in John 3:26. As his mission was he pointed them to Christ and indicated that He is decreasing and the Saviour must increase. The same truth was taught 1v1 to Nicodemus, It is plain. The JST teaches us he also taught the disciples how to baptise.

Great video! I had some thoughts about the whole gates of hell thing. If the church had remained on the ROCK of revelation there never would have been a universal apostasy, but they didn’t. Without the guidance of the Lord’s anointed (the prophets and apostles) they transgressed God’s laws, changed the ordinances of the gospel, and broke the everlasting covenant. The spirit of the Lord withdrew from the church and there was no open vision, no revelation, no direction, and the people perished. Christ’s church was taken from the earth and the fruit of that was the dark ages. Thankfully the Lord has restored his church again!

Unfortunately, many LDS also become atheists and cynical towards God, the Father, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Ghost. We can only pray for them to repent and come back.

Jeff durbin from apologia studios uses a lot of proof texting and eisogesus to prove his points. Deuteronomy 4 is about idol worship. Isaiah 43-46 is about idol worship. So he's inserting his own meaning into that text when he quotes Jehovah saying "before me was no God formed, neither shall any after me. I'm thy savior next to me there is no savior."

The concept of Jesus as God emerges the first 100 years after Christ dies. It was early Christians who claimed Jesus was God. Later in the church history the Holy Ghost gets thrown into the mix. Bart Ehrman wrote a book on why the Trinity is a flawed concept. I always found the Trinity concept unsettling. This is one reason why I joined the LDS church.

Thank you for exposing the dishonest and somewhat unethical intent from Jeff Durbin and the Apologia Ministries group. I have never liked their hidden camera ambushing of Mormon missionaries or other religious groups.

I don't care what the trinitarians say, Christian History reveals that the term "Trinity' was never part of the early Christian Church! Further to this, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day Saints ARE Christian, just read their beliefs statement or Articles of Faith.
