Agree on all pts, but Serve especially -- I'm fine to miss one of every 10-13 serves if they're deep/topspinny/varied and cause me to get some winners throughout the match or weak 2nd shots that we convert. It's a good trade to generate those vs. focusing on making all serves EZ for your returning opponent (even if 100% land "in")
Jordan, what's going-on with these new rules in the pros? You cannot release the ball with any upward motion ... and your release cannot be above the hip...? I saw Ben Johns get called for such a fault vs Duong. (And Duong violated that rule nearly every serve without it being called.) It sounded like this new rule was being "tried out." I'm gonna have to relearn how to serve!!!
On my forehand* serve I can either hit it fairly fast, low and with a lot of top spin, but not have great control over depth (and placement) or I can slow it down and hit it within 2 feet of the baseline (i.e. nice and deep) every time and have good lateral placement. Which would you choose? *My backhand serve is a much better serve but my arm gets tired if I hit backhand serves for an entire session.
My brother, you got a GOOD ONE here!! The only caveat is that this information is really only helpful for the "intermediate + " players.. Beginners serve should be "IN" and nothing else. Love ur comments on Drop Shots ( notice I didn't say 3rd shot drop, 5th shot drop, 27th shot drop) a Drop Shot is a Drop Shot, NO MATTER how many strokes have been hit... They are not for the weak of heart as they are hard to master (easier if you have a Tennis background) and you'll miss a ton before you get success.. This was really good to watch but maybe you should "qualify" the level of players who should be attempting them... Just a thought. Kev-
Good to see PB instructors are finally catching up with what Newbies have known from the start. “The Hard Game wins points and the Soft Game keeps you in points”. Newbies know this intuitively, or based on their table tennis, tennis, handball, etc. experience. For a long time, PB instructors have coached newbies to just get the ball over the net and let the other side make an unforced error ….. do not be aggressive. What other sport emphasizes defensive shots (dinks, third shot drops, lobs)? Very glad to see you guys are finally catching up with the newbies 😊😊!
Yep, people who are uncoached but who played other paddle/racquet and ball sports know that a strong serve throws off your opponent, and that a third shot drive will either be a winner, or set you up for a strong fifth shot. I played locally for quite a while before I heard from a coach that I wasn't supposed to be trying to do something good with the serve.
Is it me or "bangers" has negative connotation. In tennis hard hitting is praised and celebrated and in pickleball hard hitting is presented as something that is killing the game... I don't remember anyone calling Andy Roddick a banger. How about calling players that are hitting hard, hard hitters.
