Wow what a whistle stop tour of options! Most RU-vidrs pad out their content, this screams “I’ve got tons more to tell you all but neither you nor I have the time!” 😅 absolutely chock full of tips and tricks, thank you.
Haha yeah none of it is monetized anyway so no benefit to padding. But I think since I've come from Tiktok I'm used to keeping things short and snappy! Plus my editor is amazing haha
I'm a bit of a hurry, but didn't want wait before I watched this so I watched it on 2x speed. Very informative, even though I'll never use it. Not much of a creative type myself. Still worth my time though!
Another method, which results in very lightweight horns, is to sculpt a buck out of oil clay -- Plasticene or Plastalina, for example -- and cover it with a few layers of paper strips and paste (You could also add a separation layer made of aluminum foil to prevent the paper from sticking to the clay.) Once the glue is thoroughly dry, use a knife to slice through all layers and remove the paper from the clay. Reassemble the paper horn and cover the parting lines with another layer of paper strips. Add a texture layer with papier-mache (such as Celluclay.) Seal with Mod Podge, and paint.
I don't know if anyone else knows about this, but if you don't want to buy a bunch of headbands, you can have 1-2 headbands that you use with adjustable horns. All you do is you take the headband you want to use, take some cardboard, wire, or heavy duty paper, cut it into a thin strip and wrap it around the width of the headband (make sure you can easily slide it without to much force, but also tight enough so it'll stay in place). Then all you do is hot glue the tube together (I found overlapping one side of the cardboard on top of another then hot gluing that helps), and hot glue the bottom of the horns to each tube. This will not only negate the amount of headbands you need to buy, but also make them adjustable if you want to add something in the middle of around them later like a crown or ears (which you can also make adjustable using this method). It also helps with storage bc you can just have a box with all your peices in it as opposed to a bunch of headbands with large intricate horns that may break easily depending on how you make them. Also I'm not trying to downplay this video, these methods of making the horns in themselves work amazingly, and ive used the tin foil and clay method so many times for my horns. I just find making horns/ears detachable from the headband helps with storing them. Hope this helps someone :)
what i like to do for goat-like horns is use cardboard and keep making little “cups”, kinda like nesting dolls. then at the top i make a lil cone. i paint it and seal, they always turn out pretty well!
I'm so thankful that you share your amazing creativity and the skills you have worked so hard to develop. Seeing your YT videos of some of the processes is amazing and so inspiring. You've helped me not give up on several projects that I got stuck on, and got me thinking of better ways to do new things. Plus, your positivity and smile make each photo or video that much better.
Well that makes me so happy to read thank you heaps! It's very easy to get stuck on projects and want to put them down and move onto something easier so good on for getting back into it!
The MOMENT I have some spare time I am doing this! Probably gonna start with antlers, but I really want to try the foam one too :3 (partly because we have ton of that stuff lying around-) Great video, thanks
Im wanting to create my first cosplay ever. being a fae folk Satyre I am really thankful for your video on the horns. ^^ really informative and makes it less ' scary' to try as its very clear. So I thank you for that. I also love your owlchemist she is adorable. Do you have any videos on how to make ears? ^_^
Thank you so much, I hope your Satyr goes well I'm sure it will look awesome!! I don't have any videos on the moving ears here on youtube, but I do have one that's available through my Patreon!
Sorry if you get asked this all the time but do you have a tutorial for your moving headwings planned? I would love to use a combination of horns and wings for a couple ren fair outfit ideas i have!
ill also note! theyre a different look but for cutesy characters, plush fleece or minky horns are an option. essentially just tracing a pattern onto fleece, sew together, stuff and attach to a base. detail can be added by embroidery, or painting, this is generally how i do my smaller fursuit horns
Mmm... that second one might be ideal for making the dragon horns I want to do for my main Halloween costume this year. It looks like I might be able to get a real good curl with those. I'll just have to figure out the best way of mounting them on my head, because I imagine they might get quite heavy as they get bigger. lol
@@MissTwisteddd Do you think attaching them right to the wig (in a removable way, of course) might work out? Or would the whole lot just be too heavy in the end? I wouldn't want a visible headband, and having it wide enough to hold the weight would be far too much... unless I stole wefts from another wig and glued them to the headband... that could work, but could also lead to frustration if the headband and wig got tangled together. My wigs always end up super tangled by the end of each night because some of the spaces in the haunted house are... narrow to say the least. Squeezing into places to scare people from leads to snares. Especially in the hospital room and the atrium. lol
You are already a masterpiece of "mother nature", but in addition you achieve the feat of embellishing this masterpiece. If in addition you love what you do, you can only be fulfilled.
Hiii! Thank you so much for your video. I'm currently looking for a way to secure more some tiny horns that I have. Would you say that the metal headband you are using is comfortable enough? I'm meant to be wearing my horns an entire evening and I'm very scared of getting a headache with a headband! What do you think? :) Thank you again x
I really love the horns on the left side on your table, the purple white with the blue! Could you show us how you made that? I'd so make something like that. ;3; I just love those horns design. ♥
thanks so so much for sharing this! i don't really have many special tools like primer and a heat gun etc etc, but for a beginner, i can make things work! once again, thank you!
(Sorry for delay in response, didn't realise this video had gotten some traction!) I hope your horns turn out well! I think the glue gun and foam/cardboard options are good for beginners as they're very easy supplies to get compared to the heat gun or primer, and you can get away with those horns without any kind of primer and just paint straight onto the glue and cardboard!
Wow! This was exactly what I was lookig for to make horns! I do have one question though, where did you get the insulation foam and what size did you get? (size meaning the thickness of it) Thank you for this awesome tutorial and by the way I love your videos!
It's so cool ! Thanks you for teaching us how to make our own creation ! Can you do a tutorial on how to make your "feathered ears" please ... I don't know how to name it 😅
THE LATEX LAYER THANK YOU! i knew i needed an extra something to seal in the bottom of prosthetics and i totally didnt think about that! you're a life saver lol
Thank you so much for the tutorial! My friend recently showed interest in a cosplay that has horns and commissioned me to make a pair for them (although I have no previous experience in horn making). Though I have a few questions before I start making them. 1. Can the cardboard horns be attached directly to our face? The horns for the cosplay has a similar design to your antlers but the horns you made uses headbands and that's not the look my friend is going for. 2. Does lem fox work as primer? (It's a liquid glue that I think is used for industrial purposes? I'm not completely sure though) Or like any kind of glue? I don't think I'll be able to get mod podge
i would love to see ya one year out at the ohio renaissance festival. it would be cool to meet ya in person i love your ears and costumes so very cool. 💖💝💯👍👍🐉💐🌸💮🏵🌹🌺🌻🌼🌷🐈⬛
This is a fascinating look into Cosplay creation, thank you. Will you be going into how you make the Owlgirl headdress or is that one a trade secret? I'm really curios how you make the ears move with your emotional gestures.
this is really helpful, as i'm someone who is just starting cosplaying and making my own charachters and stuff, but how did you make those blue horns that wre in the background near the curly ones?
Fantastic video - definitely inspired to try making the insulation foam horns... although I do have a glue gun and a lot of cardboard so will be trying that method first! Thank you
The fumes given off by foam when it is heated, burnt, or melted is very toxic. Please remember to wear a respirator and work in a well ventilated place.
Hi my name is David my name is David I'm not really into cosplay bit old for that but I really like the way you create things and make things and you really surprise me but I do love the owl
I 3d printed but then they were to heavy (was giving me a headach from pulling too much on my head) so papa-mashi over em as a mould worked great then superglue em to my head
12:12 Maybe try a smaller needle instead. As long as it's not smaller than the thread. Smaller needles are easier to get through uncooperative materials and thick layers.
My son love your owl headpiece where did you get it or is there a video to learn how to make one? He wants to be owl alchemist for next three barons fair
I didn't see it but is there something else that can be applied to the base of the horn other than latex so it'll stick better, because I have a bit of an allergy of latex?
hey, anyone knows how to attach some real horns to a headband or something? my grandpa got me some huge ram horns but idk how to attach it to a headband to wear them, can i get some ideas?
@MissTwisteddd thank you so much for these quick tutorials. 🥰 With all the new innovative ways to build cosplay, I can find it overwhelming. It's good to remind oneself that you don't need laser cutters, 3D printers etc, and good old cardboard will still do the trick. I loved the deer cosplay - so cute!❤ Do the cardboard horns ever get soggy from priming/painting? I want to cosplay as The Last Unicorn, and like the idea of using insulation foam for the horn. I use pva/woodglue to prime, and I find that thermoplastics like worbla (especially black worbla) stick and form better on/around foam when pva glue is used. I was running low on gold acrylic paint, so decided to mix it with the PVA wood glue. The finish turned out lovely, and created an almost smooth leather-like effect. I haven't been in cosplay since 2019, (She-Ra, Weeping Angel) My angel wings were so heavy because I reinforced them with grid wire. I think I may redo them with cardboard and insulation foam spray, so i can carve out the feather patterns in the foam. That's only if the EVA foam ones are too heavy. I broke my back in 2020, and now require a rollator/crutches for mobility, so heavier cosplays are probably out of the window for a long time. I would love to do Medusa, but in an accessible way so that I don't need an extra three people with me to get me in and out of armour just to go to the loo😅.
Just wanted to say I think it's awesome that you're not letting your injury & the resulting medical aids prevent you from still having fun with cosplay! Maintaining creative outlets in one's life adds so much richness, no matter what else we're dealing with... Hope you're not experiencing too much chronic pain... I know from sad experience how much energy that saps, and how that can drastically affect how much free time & energy one has available for crafting activities (or anything else, sigh!)
Currently I'm making my Bowsette horns after the first tutorial. It's so much fun but also frustrating when you only have a cutter xD thank you so much
These are all awesome! I'm not sure which is my favourite. Have you ever made a large single horn, like a unicorn? How would you suggest making something large, yet sturdy enough? I have an idea for a cute unicorn-satyr but I have no idea how to make the horn >.
super helpful video, what would you suggest doing for mixed media horns that would need to be in the forehead area? my current thought is some kind of a laurel wreath thing, but heavier and more stable. For context, this would be for a cosplay of Lord Xander, the Collector from Magic the Gathering
