Hey everyone! Here's the next episode of Three-For-All with 3 Ray Gomez Licks From 1977. I'll fully admit that this episode spawned from the inspiration after finding Ray's classic 1980 album 'Volume' yesterday at one of my favorite record stores, so while this episode wasn't originally planned, I'm stoked to finally feature Mr. Ray Gomez on my channel - so let's dive in!
While Ray may not be a household name, his music and the bands/artists he's worked with in his career are household names. This includes working with artists such as Stanley Clarke, Aretha Franklin, Roy Buchanan, Jack Bruce, Hall & Oates, and many more! So while Ray's name might not be familiar, I can assure you that his music is!
The ideas in this episode came from a live appearance in 1977 when Ray was working with bass legend Stanley Clarke, and the footage captures both of these marvelous players strutting their stuff like wild! The ideas shared here include a slick cascading melodic sequence idea, a melodic legato phrase, a wicked "crammed" legato phrase, a soulful blues-rock melodic bending idea, and much more!
Needless to say, if you're a Ray Gomez fan (or fan of Stanley Clarke), a jazz-rock or blues-rock guitarist, or maybe a player searching for some new ideas to stick in their bag of tricks - this episode is totally for you!
