I had dreadlocks in the past and i started spraying my dreads with sea salt and water everyday and soon enough they locked, the sea salt dries out the hair and makes it tangle which creates the lock
Swirly Tunes 64 i had a set of dreads and I never used sea salt, even tho it does help kinda loc faster, it dries out your hair barley, causes flakes, and scalp issues
@Swirly Tunes 64 nah there was never salt stuck in my dreads because you shake up the sea salt and the water in a bottle so the sea salt just goes in the water and it looks like regualr watee
@@choppaboymon9685 Agreed. Back in MA, I was swimming in the Atlantic all the time when I first started my locks. The salt water locks you up quick and it treats any tender spots you might have on your scalp. I live in Denver now where there is no ocean and decided to lock my hair again. It's taken me 2 years for my hair to mature and break out of the awkward phase.
You don’t need any products at all.... leave your hair alone and it will loc eventually period no matter how straight it will loc eventually. Just be patient
I actually found this video helpful because I'm starting my loc process through the two strand method, and tbh I was bout to drop a smooth $50 on some products and it turns out that using them ain't gonna help my hair too much. Thanks for the tips cus this is really gonna save me some bread.
they probably don't know what dreads are like. They probably think they're gross and dirty and that you can't clean them. They might also think of all the negative dreadhead stereotypes
@Eccly Igbineweka Fr. My mom is always just complimenting my natural hair just to downplay other styles that I like. She’s always like “ur hair is better than that” I hate it
My dad didnt let me grow my hair out until I could pay for it (high school) and no hairstyle is ugly as long as you take care of it and people will always hate how you look but more people will your style cuz it's your own and it fits your personality
I just started my locking journey and last week i did the crochet method. My locs was VERY frizzy and LOTS of loose strands. I tried more crochet but wasnt good enough. So i bought a locking gel and the before and after is night and day! I used the crochet doing some touch ups as i was use thr locking gel and it worked pretty well. Now the frizz isn't 100% gone but looks alot less bummy than what it was before
The #4 reason is no patience. Just sit back, chill and enjoy the journey. And understand everyone's JOURNEY is not the same...much respect homie good videos and great info✊🏽✊🏽
This video was well needed😂🤦🏾♂️man I have three thick dreads in the back that won’t lock up in the root area...11 months in by the way...but I only use one product plus the Jamaican mango Jel...but now I know what to do💪🏾
Locking gel really helps because I put locking gel on one of my dreads and twisted it and in like 2 weeks it started locking and like he says don’t use to much because when u in that heat u gonna be itching your head a lot
My hair is naturally dry, I was about to buy a bunch of moisturizers and oils to start and speed up the process, and it would’ve slowed down and even hindered the process. 🤯 Great advice, thanks for the video, really.
10 weeks in first time ever getting and I'm loving the outcome. They are 2-4 inches and have a slight reddish brown sun bleach going on. I can't wait to see where I'll be at in a full year.
No its dries your hair too much. In fact, it dries your scalp causing it to itch and your scalp produces too much oils and ruin your dreads and causes build up
@@siratlantis6 yall must have missunderstood me. When i moisturize my hair, i spray water on it and then my product. The dampness from moisturizing causes my retwists to unravel
I saw your video upon the dread look crochet hook I ordered it last week from Amazon an I got it 3 days ago even though I had my dreads 13. Years it's the best thing I coulda ever bought so thank you for your advice. I love love love it. It puts my loose hairs right back in my dreads. I wish I woulda bought it years ago. Lol,
Ayyy I’m free forming too! I’m pretty sure i have the same type of hair as you and it already started to lock! I shower every morning of the week and it’s all going good! Also doing that 100 push-ups a day for a month thing for the second time, it really helps. Thanks Gunther for all of this!👍🏽
Bro this is the keys maan i was struggling with my hair bc i do sports like 5 times a week and i really have to shower so i didn‘t know if showering does unravle my starter dreads but now that you say that the more i shower the better my hair lock up! i am ready go in this journey maan thanks gunther🔥🔥
Honestly appreciate tf out of your vids they're so helpful. Started free forming less then a month ago and it's coming out perfect because of your them.
I’ve heard so much differing information over the past 6 months since I’ve started my locs. Still trying to figure out what’s right although I’ve seen a lot of positives (budding, growth, etc). I live in a colder climate and feel like that affects my scalp amongst others things (diet, exercise, etc) I feel like I have to use some kind of oil especially in the winter months. Based on this video I want to try washing once a week and hopefully that will help my scalp produce some natural oil.
It's been 10 months for me. I have super straight, thin hair. I have never used any product and since the first time I got sectioned and back combed I have washed my hair twice a week. My hair doesn't coil, so I don't want to call it locs. More like sectioned matted hair. I'm so beyond over people assuming that I don't/can't wash my hair. And also people telling me to use bees wax/ hair gel.
PlayBoiMari that’s in everyone dreads fam just use acv wash and rinse fam I don’t personally care if dundruff is in my locks 🔒 lint and dust collect in dreadlocks so yeah fam u out of luck with dat really it don’t matter if u had dreads for 78 years u gonna have some dandruff in ur scalp or the lock it self😂
The first time I tried dreads was in 05, comb coil method with twist gel. FAIL! My hair unravels easily and curls right back up if I don't manipulate it. Parts of my hair doesn't even curl its just wavy and kind of straight. I gave up and went back to cornrows then eventually shaved all my hair off. 2 years later I discoverd the crochet hook method. It worked & I've had locs hella times since then. 😂 Always get bored around year 2. Currently working on a new set I think this time I'm going to stick with locs since I keep coming back to them.
Dude, THANK YOU! I had my daughter section my hair and microlink it. Last week I spent 24 solid hours dreading 170 sections, lol. Came out great. It’s been 1 week. I’m about to wash for 1st time and wanted to do some research before I fucked anything up.😂 This video has helped me SO much! I really appreciate you and I’ll be all up in your videos for LIFE now!🤣 TYVM❤ I’ll keep you posted. I’ve got the crochet needles. It’s lookin frizzy and a couple have come loose, but so now ima wash it and go through em all
If you have starter locs using twisting gel and just oil for your scalp is fine when you’re retwisting tbh just don’t douse your hair in oil everyday after that and wash your hair after a couple weeks
I don't use products at all don't even have time, I'm black and it's been almost a year and my hair looks even shorter. I'm about to pick them out and cut my hair rock short curly Wave look.
I think I just can't have dreads, I have to use wax because my hair is so soft that my hair won't hold with most gels, and when I was my hair the dress just come undone
no it’s not bad to wet ur starter locs every daily actually that is the best thing u can do bc when it gets wet it mats Nd tangled together Nd that’s good,BUT washing your hair 3 times A WEEK is HORRIBLEEE especially when ur already wetting it every day I promise ur hair will thank you. stop washing ur hair so frequently that hinders the locking process as well
@@myad4534 thank you I really appreciate it! I was paranoid about my hair keeping smells cause I smoke also but I rather smell like a likkle kush then prevent hair from flourishing haha 😆
My hair grade cause my hair to unravel when wet, so for me personally not washing my hair helped it lock, if my hair was more coarse than washing regularly wouldn't be a issue. That's just what worked for me. I didn't wash my hair until my hair started to lock
I’m almost one year and since I stopped interlocking 6months ago my roots have not locked😔 I’m gonna try washing more often and see if my stylist can instant loc the root. I wanna see my length!
Someone please tell me a quick solution how to wash my hair? People say with starter locs u should wait 3 months to wash it? I started sponging 2 weeks ago and my hair itchy af
I’m so confused cause some people say to oil/moisturize your locs I think I’m in that teenage stage right now so I’m trying to figure out how to maintain my locs
I want to wash my hair so bad but I dont want my hair to unravel. I'm unsure which method I should use. The usual wash or the durag/stalking cap technique..🤷🏾♂️
I used a cap my first wash after a month and I towel rubbed after it air dried and it was all fine. I got like 3b-3c hair too so you’ll prolly be fine.
That is the exact crochet hook I bought, I was so lost trying to use it. I gave up. Watched videos then tried again, gave up again. I wash my hair once a week even before I started my locs. I use living proof shampoo.
If the rubbing your hair when you wash is the problem then just rinse it with cold water (you should use cold water when you wash it too) because the process of hair getting wet and drying locs up hair especially with cold water sense it makes hair contact while hot water makes expand.
I don’t get it every time I wash my hair my locks come completely out I had my dreads for 6months and they not locked at all this is a mess I’m gonna go see a Specialist
I just started locking my hair. I’m three months into it and my ends are having a hard time coming together. I have really soft hair and the person who is maintaining my hair says to not wash my hair…well I washed it and my scalp feels a lot better. I think I will take your advice and not oil it so much, but my scalp gets very dry because it absorbs like a sponge. What’s your recommendation?
I wasn't sure if I should watch this since my dreads is currently only a thought. Lol. Glad I did so for when I do, I know where to get the crotchet hook. 😝
Can't I just backcomb my locks to start and then wash my hair 4 to 5 times a month and just palm roll like hell? I have super thick wool like hair so it should work. I am doing it then coming back in a little over the month to respond to your video with an update. 🤣
Recently started my locs I was suggested to use olive oil spray and spritz on my locs every other day until my 5 weeks up help is that healthy on my locs
I have beautiful dread and I use the bees wax. My hair is very clean.I guess it all depends on the persons hair and their preference of how their dreads will look.
