With all the variations of date just and fakes out there I used this to research my first Rolex purchase. Thank you very much I had so much skepticism when I saw some had holes and some didn’t. You even showed me the difference in lug size and band weight which helped alot

I bought a 16013 18K 2 tone back in 1986. I still have it and looks pretty good for a 33-year old watch. Take care of it and it'll last a lifetime.

Excellent video, I have a 1980 Rolex 16013, with a mother of pearl face and a diamond bezel that now looks like your 16223. I like the band you have on the 16223 I think I will change my band it's stretched.

126233 is the latest Rolex Datejust in 36 mm ! Love these watches !!!!!

Beautiful pieces. I inherited a Tudor oyster Prince date day - Its basically the '98 datejust you showed but without the Rolex inhouse movement. It suffers from the same problems. Thin and drilles lugs. jingly jangly lightweight jubilee bracelet etc. Very beautiful but very fragile compared to new Rolex/Tudor watches And infact if anyone wants a datejust but cant afford it. I would suggest getting a 90s early 2000s Tudor Oyster prince date day - a good gold one will set you back 2-2.5k but you make considerable savings over the Datejust and its as well built as older Rolexs as most of the parts are Rolex

I've just started falling in love with Rolex's and learning about them.. the hidden clasp was literally 60% of what turned me on about the Datejust... such a shame they removed it, they should have added it as an option!

God, that Buckley dial one is soooo polished! No definition left in the bezel or clasp

My co worker at Publix has a beautiful gold dial and case date just with a gold and steel jubalee bracelet and he told me all the stories behind it and how he got it, it was just so amazing to see one in the wild

I don't get why everyone believes that a heavier watch is superior. You are wearing it on your wrist all day, the lighter it is the better! The impression of quality you might get from handling a heavier watch is largely an illusion, a well-made lighter watch can be just as good quality and practically just as robust. Vintage steel watches with bracelets weighed about 70-80g (I believe that the Datejust 1601 was 83g). This is a good weight for a watch, why would you want to weigh your wrist down with something that is twice as heavy?

I have two questions: 1) Do all 116233 have rehaut engravings? I am currently looking at one that is supposed to be from 2003 which does not have any engravings. 2) Was the super jubilee with the hidden clasp introduced with the 116233 so that I can say a watch that has a super jubilee is definitely a 116233?

I look at my Datejust 16233 (1998 issue serial number), and marvel at the fact that nearly every other watch company has copied this design openly and sells it as part of their line, and I have a "real one"! An observation about what any particular Datejust from any particular year is worth is somewhat dependent on its dial (of course). So, when somebody looks at my watch (dealers included), and notices the Ivory Roman Numeral Pyramid Dial, they tend to offer a few bucks more: its no longer available, was never available for purchase separately from Rolex, and very few "loose" dials for sale on the secondary market. If you like the dial, you buy the entire watch.

3:29 Silica carbide, which is a commonly used abrasive, will scratch sapphire. So be careful when using carbide sand paper.

Weird I have never heard the term "holes case" and have been a collector for quite some time. Never heard it from other collectors or friends. Never have even read it in any publication. Always, always have I seen and heard them refered to as "drilled lugs".

Do you think in 1998 date just is a Good investment. I read somewhere that something with the metal was different in 1998-1999 if I remember right. I have been looking for that info for the last 30mins :). I’m looking at a 36mm 1998 two toned date just with a Champagne line dial. It’s priced at $9450ca “7800” American. It will be my first piece and I’m worried to buy a Undesirable year as I’m looking at it as an investment as well as a gift to myself :-) thank you for the video and subscribe to your channel and look forward to watching more

It's not strictly true that only diamond will scratch a synthetic sapphire crystal. I have owned the same Datejust since 1989 and have had to replace the sapphire crystal twice. The first time I scuffed the watch on a stone wall and chipped the crystal on its edge. The second time I was in a cycling accident and the cyclops lens was knocked clean off the crystal, along with severe scratching caused by contact with the asphalt road.

i was having a very tough time deciding between a brand new Datejust or pre-owned Daydate. 42 seconds into this video, i've made up my mind to go with a new Datejust. It's a pure beauty. i hope my gf doesnt see this comment. What do you guys think? New datejust or pre-owned daydate?

Ditto on the vid...I will never part with my 1995 DateJust with the Jubilee dial. Other than a Sub, Rolex has never made a more iconic and popular watch. If i could only own 2 Rolexes (or for that matter only 2 watches period) it would be my 1996 no date Sub for everyday and my Datejust for special occasions.
