That was excellent! I have my original 1975 stainless Datejust, of which I am the original owner, in excellent condition although it is time to have the bracelet repaired. I knew of the Hong Kong company, but not the Norway company. It appears they did an excellent job on your bracelet. My own bracelet now needs surgery. Thank you for alerting me to this second company. Awesome video as are all your other videos!

The only reason I've purchased several new Rolex watches in recent years, is because of the better Bracelets and Clasps offered now. Imagine if Rolex offered the NEWER style bracelets on any older Rolex watch body..... PS: I just bought a new Datejust-41 ref 126300 with smooth bezel, silver dial, and jubilee bracelet and LOVE it. Keep the videos coming! (easy for me to say, haha) Thanks!

I bought a wreck Date, in 1980, the watch is circa 1962-1965. I replaced the dial. Which now says Swiss Made. It NEEDED a new bracelet. So, I bought an Oyster bracelet from an AD. Of course the acrylic crystal was so heavily worn, it’s been replaced twice. It’s been polished, no hiding that. And the crown and thread barrel have been replaced. Does that qualify as a Frankin watch? I’ve photographed the movement, cal 1570, and it’s correct for the case. 40 yrs of wearing it, I’m not regretting the replacement face. It’s running in top form, it’s gorgeous. So, I’m mixed on not replacing elements that wear out. It’s my daily watch.

I'm not interested in "avoiding a franken." The Datejust is the perfect watch to modify. Put the bracelet or strap you prefer on one. Same with the bezel. If you prefer smooth steel, have it your way. If you are justifying purchasing a Datejust by telling yourself it is an "investment," you need a talking to. Sure, it is a wiser watch to purchase due to its likelihood of holding its value; but that does not an investment make. If you like the watch, and you can afford the watch, buy the watch. Styled your way. And change its style, if that's your preference. If you like diamonds on your bezel, have them. Do yours your way. DO have your stretched Jubilee repaired, though.

16013 should be a part of all gentleman's collection, in that it was the last of the domed crystals. See that most jubilee bracelets of this circa (80's) are usually graded class II condition in the States. Do they use this same grading system in Europe?
@CasebackWatches
@CasebackWatches 5 лет назад
I've never heard about that system. Would you mind explain it or send me a link?
@jpdavis6042
@jpdavis6042 5 лет назад
Not sure how this grading system came into play. Many established Rolex AD's and Watch Dealers use a four level grading system 1-4 for the overall condition of a piece, including bracelet. Go to Bobs Rolex website (google it) in Huntington Beach. They explain the system and have an extensive Rolex data library. Also see this grading system mentioned by sellers on Ebay and other sites like Chrono 24. Enjoying your channel and style.

My 1601 from 1972 has been worn by me since 7 years ago every single day, without being serviced. Due of that ̶a̶b̶use, the acrylic crystal has suffered a little crack in it, and the crown shows some bumps that misshaped it a little bit. Despite of that, the jubilee bracelet has never got stretched, it is in very good shape and reliable to this day, as same as my beloved war horse watch. But, the question is, ¿why can you see that many vintage rolex bracelets shows that high level of stretched links?¿Some specific factor leads to that? Just thinking about it scares me. Good video¡¡
@CasebackWatches
@CasebackWatches 5 лет назад
Could it be a replacement bracelet? I don't mean fake or aftermarket but a new old stock Jubilee. I've never seen a worn bracelet from 1972 without stretch and i don't think that this is possible, because at the end of day we're talking about steel and abrasive forces. Above that i could imagine, that a very loose worn bracelet can evolve more stretch than a tight one, because the first one moves more on the wrist. Conclusion: Lucky you ;-)
@bannedaccount3752
@bannedaccount3752 5 лет назад
Well, I must clarify that the bracelet of my datejust was delivered with a slight curve down (not as superbly rigid as yours 0:25), and that is how it has remained until today. Perhaps, it's because the reference 6251H, which is mine, has blessed by the universe with a less prone to stretch than the others. The NOS bracelet, obtained by the seller in some moment, is another good explanation, or the combination of good luck an that.

I absolutely love the vintage Rolexes and Tudors but medical student budget is too tight. What’s your view on getting vintage Hamilton/ Tissot, etc. better to get a new watch for better engineering or vintage for the look/history? I have vintage Poljot and an old Cyma quartz. What would you go for? Save or get rid of that new watch urge XD
@CasebackWatches
@CasebackWatches 5 лет назад
Well, what is better engineering? IMHO swiss brands like Omega reached a peak in the 60s and that's why you can wear them today mostly without problems. Technical quality is there and historical value. At the same time i wouldn't wear a Rolex DJ from the 60s because they don't have a quickset. So huge historical value with poor technic. So i personally chose a DJ from the 80s with less historical value but with modern comfort. Basically you should find a balance between history and the usability of the respective brand. But if you are on a budget right now you could really buy a Tissot or Hamilton. Both are great brands and especially Tissot is imo underrated and underpriced.

@CasebackWatches
@CasebackWatches 5 лет назад
Kein Witz.
@ganimed1976
@ganimed1976 5 лет назад

Caseback Watches I have a Rolex Precision Oysterdate and I’m unsure about it. And marked T SWISS T which is for tritium. The movement is marked 1215 under the balance wheel, my photo it’s hard to read and be sure, and is 18,000 beats. Is the 1210 the same except no date? I see many descriptions of Precision with 21,600 cal 1220 or 1225, from 1969 onwards. Just trying to get an idea of year. What yrs was the 1215 cal produced? My OysterDate perpetual cal 1570 is 19,800 beats. And I believe it to be 1962 or so.

It happened to a couple of people I know. You should buy new. This guy pushing a DJ hello people want the sports watches get educated.

Very good suggestion! You should educate your people how to pick a proper dealer BEFORE spending thousands on a watch. The dealers i know offer one year warranty, money back within months sometimes. Selling damaged Rolex watches would kill their reputation and business within weeks.
