put this same kit on 4 months ago and deleted my original comment. here’s what’s gone right and wrong so far. for one, this video is absolute gold for anyone whether you’re doing a spacer lift or longer springs/coilovers. I installed 2.5” spacers front and rear with 275/70/18 wheels and 1.25” spacers. It is excellent on the road and decently capable off road. that being said, be prepared to change your cv boots/tie rod boots *potentially. since the lift all of my boots are leaking, no big deal I expected it and had already ordered long travel axles. overall i would absolutely do this lift again, it looks great, rides good, and if you follow along with the video it can be done in your driveway. it took a couple weeks for the suspension to fully settle but i haven’t had any issues since then with UCAs or anything really. oh and yes getting a rust free Arizona vehicle was a huge headache saver, everything came off easily. hardest part of the whole job was actually lining up the pan hard bar afterwards but it only took about 10 mins
I just did this to my 2001 Toyota Sequoia I ordered them from eBay 3 inch spacers . Follow every single direction this man gave me. Help me out a lot. and I also have my pregnant wife helping me 8 months pregnant lol Thank you very much 💯
very good info, thankyou Sir, I've been sitting on a set of the back spacers for months to install. no im gonna measure before i dissamble Thankyou SO much! mad respect for trusting the holy spring comp tool haha.
Noticed the 4wd at the end of the video. $5k in Cali with that mileage is a steal. I can’t thank you enough for your videos man. You keep it to straight to the point. My wife is 4 month pregnant and WONT let me take off the side step from her sequoia. 😅
Did this lift on my 05 tundra, great video! Couldn't figure out how to make the lower control arm to move lower until I watched! Great information! Thanks man!!
Anyone considering a spacer lift, take into account the binding points of the cv axle, ball joint and tie rods when the suspension is fully unloaded. Also the front bumpstops should be spaced down so that the shock doesn't bottom out, your front bumpstops should stop the control arm
You can check how thick a spacer fits by putting frame on jackstands, removing 3 strut nuts, pushing down on susp and seeing how much gap you can get between strut top and bucket @prestonsserious
Recently became interested in these as a camping rig and can’t wait to find one. Seems like the prices vary pretty wildly in my area. Thanks for these awesome videos I have a ton of ideas!
@@treehouseoffroad Im looking forward to seeing the set up with more kiddos! We usually have my niece and nephew and dog. so it is a crowded rig in the summer.
I got the same limited 03 brother 360k just did timing belt water pump got ours back in 2014 $5300 the guy who sold it to me was a blessing to me and my family Thank you Mr Jefford I still got her running
The comment at the end about the pregnancy with the lift. Lol my wife’s 8 months right now and we just bought a first gen and I’m doing the same lift and 33’s on hers as a beach family truck.
Did you keep the stock upper control arms? I thought you need a new upper control arms to accommodate the additional 3 inches. Congrats on the growing family, and great video by the way.
Just bought an 03 Limited 4x4 117,000k miles, one owner rust free with 45 service records. $10,500.00. Interior is absolute mint condition, road trip car for a couple with no kids.
Do you think if I was looking for just a 1 inch lift in the back either with a spacer or larger springs to match my leveling kit in the front a little bit better that I would still need a spring compressor? Great footage, great video.
Great video! Did you do 3” front and 3” in back? Or 3”” front 2-1/2” back. I’ve seen both used, want as level a stance as possible. Thanks for the content and any help.
@@treehouseoffroad Great Job, I got Lost when u re installed the front shocks, did not see how where u able to align the 3 bolt to the UCA. Will those spin or u had a marker to make them aligned?
Only issue was the hole on the top hat started contacting the front strut shaft and became wallowed out. The shaft was also eaten away a bit. It probably would've been fine for a while longer but when I disassembled them it showed signs of wear. To be fair I had the struts on my truck for over a year and beat on them pretty hard
This is amazing, thank you! Would you happen to know how much it measures from the ground to bottom fender through the middle? I believe stock is around 32 inches. I was wondering how much height difference the wheel, tires, and lift did overall.
I have a 99 Durango 4WD 5.9 3.92 Diffs. I'd love to go 33s x 12.5 to use mostly on the beach for surfcasting! I get HORRIBLE mileage. Supposed to use 93 octane as well! What does your 1st Gen get with the 33s? These are looking like a better choice when sleeping at the beach with more room! And look exceptionally better too! Thanks!
Its my wife's truck and the MPG screen is messed up. So I can't say for sure what type of mileage she gets but I'd guess around 13-14. What are you getting?
@@treehouseoffroad I get only 11 to 12 MPG.... OUCH! Just did the transmission because the Torque Converter wasn't locking up reliably... I hope that helps! It wouldn't pass inspection here in NY because of that! NY Sucks!
Do you think I’ll need jack stands for the rear. I was able to do the front. But don’t know if I need to drop the whole rear end or just one side. Do you think I’ll be fine with one jack and a bottle jack?
Hi treehouse! I was watching your 3” spacer lift for the sequoia. I had a question is on the rear spacer I’m have trouble finding the correct dia. as I have the limited with the larger diameter coil. We’re did you find yours? I’ve looked in Craigslist… no luck. Thank you
I have an 03 4wd with 3rd row and tow hitch. It has 240K miles. One of the rear shocks died so I'm replacing it with an OEM clone and figured I might as well add a 2, maybe 2.5 inch body lift kit, while I'm getting my hands dirty. I'd like to throw some 33's on the factory rims. I'm seeing a ton of conflicting info, as to what all needs to be done/replaced. Will factory shocks work? Do I need to replace the rear coil springs as well? Any help would be appreciated.
Factory shocks and factory springs will work with a body lift because you are keeping the suspension the same yes. You may have to remove the front mudflaps and hammer the front wheel wells a bit to avoid rubbing with 33's. The rears will not run in this scenario
I have a 2005 2wd Sequoia with rear air bags that leak. I'm going to do a 2.5 suspension lift but convert to just springs and shocks in all four corners. If I'm pulling out all the suspension, do you think I should add the spacers on top of a 2.5 lift? It doesn't look much harder to add the spacers to my 2wd which will never see off road. Also, what size tires are you running at the end of the video
@treehouseoffroad I was thinking a 2.5" suspension lift and add 1" spacer lift. Will that combo be OK just for a city rig. It will never see off road as it's a 2wd
Are new rear shocks are requirement? No. That's part of the attraction of a spacer lift, you can reuse your front and rear shocks. Would it handle and articulate better with a longer rear shock absorber? Absolutely. You're essentially eating up 3 inches of your downtravel when you install the spacer. We did not replace the rear shocks as they were fairly new when we got the truck, and we had no plans of taking it off road.
Thanks man, her little computer is stuck on DTE so we really have no idea. She says it's not that much worse than it was though. I had the same lift and the same exact wheels and tires on mine for about a year and it wasn't too bad
I think the rear springs are the same for both 2wd/4wd. The difference is if you have the tow package & 3rd row seat, the rear springs are bigger. Front struts are the same across all models.
Do you lift the front and back 3”. Or should the back be 2.5 and the front be 3 for example. Not sure what to do some lifts are sold with the front taller. But I want it to be level
I would measure the distance between the front and rear fenders and the tires to see what your truck needs to make it level. Some trucks sag more than others. You can also buy the front and rear spacers separately.
@@treehouseoffroad Does this 3 inch spacer lift put stress on stock suspension? Will I have to change out any suspension parts when installing this 3 inch spacer lift on my sequoia?
Yes it literally puts stress on the springs and shocks lol. I would do the lower ball joints, maybe get some extended sway bar links. It may prematurely kill your front struts....but it's CHEAP!
@@javygarcia7917 Personally I've just unplugged and deactivated those systems, as I've found them to be dangerous on the street. Under the hood there's a plug going into the brake master cylinder. Do this at your own risk, but definitely do some research on the FB groups It's a very well-known issue
Hey, so I have an 06 Seqouia SR5 and want to lift it. Not sure which route to go, my goal is to put larger tires. Should I go with the spacers or suspension lift ?
Maybe with some adjustable upper control arms like SPC's. Yes there will be some minor trimming and pinch weld modifying required up front. As it stands now this truck still runs a bit at fill lock in reverse.
After my 3 inch install, my steering rack and pinion MOUNT under passenger side snaps right off. Frame on these 1st gene aren't that durable either. Welded back on but without re-doing that whole crossmember, steering will never be the same.....now debating on a straight front axel conversion.🤔
Just did a spacer lift on my sequoia and I’m noticing a floating feeling in the steering. Maybe over and under steering. Any suggestions on what that might be. Alignment was just done
We clear 33x12.5 tires. They still rub a tiny bit in reverse but not enough to bother us. A 285/75R17 is a slightly taller tire at 33.83 inches so you may have a bit more rubbing. Nothing removing the mud flaps and taking a sledgehammer to the pinch weld can't fix though
You would definitely benefit from a set of aftermarket UCA's but they're not absolutely necessary. The geometry is pretty much maxed out but an alignment is still achievable
Hello sir, in the video you had to wait for the correct rear spacers, i have the exact year and model you have. Would you happen to have the link to the specific spacers that worked on yours?
That's a great question... I'm not sure. There are a total of 8 Toyota part numbers for rear springs on these trucks, 4 for the driver side and 4 for the passenger. So it gets sort of confusing. Are you a member of the TSOR group on FB? There's probably a good amount of info there on lifting the air susp models.
I’m at 5:38 point of the video and got my lower control arm bolts out front and rear however the arm is still under tension and won’t drop down… what else need to be loosen?
@@treehouseoffroad some rust but not too bad. I did noticed that those inserts that bolts go through is not loose. I tried hammer it on the nut side but no luck. The arm does go down but under severe pressure (unlike the video, where it moves freely) anyways I used a long bar to force the arm down while I catch that hole with the nut on the bottom of the shock. With great effort I was able to do it. Now I got to move to the other side… for some reason I can’t release the arm to be able to work with it so I’m trying to see if I am doing something wrong🤔
@@Petrovich1988 hard for me to visualize what you're saying but it sounds like you got it. I'm not sure why they'd be so tight if they were not seized or rusted
Another question I have is with the kit you listed it has a recommended differential drop kit. I noticed you didn't show that part of the install did you put one in and if so how does it go in? Again please and thank you 😊
Those spots have always worked great but now I have 6-ton stands and a lift so I no longer use them. I shake the car violently to make sure it's stable but yeah I understand your concern
They sure do! That's why I ripped them out of this truck and replaced them with straight pipe. On my Sequoia I have the catalytic converter guards from www.skidrowoffroad.com and they've worked well so far
If you're young and broke, the LAST thing you should be spending your money on is a vehicle/mods. Can't say I haven't made the same mistakes in my youth, but now at 56, after 30 yrs in business, I look back at all the money I wasted trying to "look good", "go fast", "be the man". Luckily, my business allowed me the cushion to absorb all that waste, but I just think how much I could have saved and invested. Sure, enjoy your youth, you can live it to the fullest WITHOUT spending $$$, delay that short term gratification. If you're not increasing your income EXPONENTIALLY as the years go by, life is just going to be that much harder and you'll look at all the "stuff" you bought as worthless trash. Just trying to help brother.
You make some great points, but personally I had to learn those lessons for myself. I think most young men will have to come to this conclusion on their own
