The food is the most important one in my eyes. Pretend you're an italian mom hosting dinner. Have more food than you think you'll eat. Also scream light weight baby at various points throughout the day.
Some other good tips: 1. Read the organization's rule book. USAPL and USPA in my opinion are the best in the USA. Know the commands. Read the book again. 2. Attend a local meet to see how things go before you even enter one. Help out one of your friends who's competing there with small things, like getting them water or food or cheer them on, or sit in the audience and take notes tracking how long it is for a lifter between attempts. 3. When you do enter a meet, read the social media posts that the meet directors send out (FB page, emails, etc.). You'll probably have a gazillion questions, and the meet directors usually answer all or most of them in their periodic posts/emails.
yeah my first meet was horrible performance wise compared to what I expected.. missed all bench attempts, 1 squat attempt and 1 deadlift attempt... but I learned a lot from it and my 2nd meet I went 9/9 and did pretty great... I see the first meet as just a learning experience for the 2nd one
Got a comp in two weeks this dude has helped me perfect my bench from 205 to 230 at 142 lbs. Now I’m 150 and ready to bring home the gold baby! LIGHT WEIGHT! I can’t thank you enough for giving me the tools to be the best lifter I can!
In my first powerlifting meet, I was too shy to jump in and start warming up and the next thing I knew they called my name on the platform. I did my first competition power lift (a state record) with zero warm up.
I was 67 in my first meet, the records at that age are not that impressive. You don’t have to be strong when you are 65 plus, you just have to be a survivor.
Did my first meet in december, did 9/9. My approach was to start with my PBs from september (last test before the competition) and yeah, last deadlift felt I had 5kgs more in the tank, but overall, I was really happy about my weight selection, ended up with 190/112.5/220.
Hi Benjamin. Stop considering and sign up. If you are into powerlifting, you are going to love it. You are going to learn a ton about yourself. I know the whole thing might seem intimidating, but I'd be more scared about regretting not doing a meet in the future. Go for it, Benjamin. You got nothing to lose and a lot to lift ;) Stay strong 💪
Alan, what kind of power rack do you have? Also, carbs/hydration (simple the day of) and definitely eat and bring fluids and food that you are comfortable with digestive wise, and stay hydrated.
Wish there were more meets in my area! There's one later this month and I'm going to scope it out. Plan is to enter next year. Great info for when the day comes, thank you!
Oh snaps I didn’t realize this was a new video I just clicked to watched. Perfect timing. My first meet is next month. Thank you!! ☺️ Question for anyone: Elbow pain? My pain level is very small right now but I’ve had tendinitis before and don’t want it to get that bad. Any tips on healing them as I prepare for my meet that’s about 5 weeks out?
Great advice! For sure bring lots of food or snacks (things that won’t bloat you or cause you to feel anything other than full) personally, a big ass stack of pancakes does the trick 😬
He made a video about how strong you should be! I used to think like when i was deadlifting 400.... but the moment I thought I should compete my lifts are going up. lol. Competing soon this COVID is over (if it ever be)
Man I'm going to my first Strongest man, powerlifting competition and this is really solid advice! It's a small state competition but it's my first so glad for the tips and plan
I experienced that fatigue when I started warming up deadlifts in my meet. Made the last minute decision to pull sumo instead of conventional and it paid off big time.
When should I even consider doing one? Been lifting since july, my most impressive lift so far is 150kg dl (although I do think my max is closer to 160). Whats the reasonable total before u go to not make a fool out of myself?
@@hglenn2k I think it would be fun, but only if i wasnt completely out of my league. I am quite competitive, and while i have no illusions that i should be able to win whole thing after few months of training, i would at least like to compete with SOME people. And i am 25 y/o male, weighting over 110 kg, so i imagine i'm in literally hardest bracket lmao.
