This is kind of off topic, but i'm new here and i was surprised by how you try to read and reply with even a few words to every comment you receive. That's so attentive and kind and i appreciate how much you make the effort to engage with your audience, despite how that must be time consuming for you, so thank you so much cindy! Have you ever read the his dark materials trilogy by philip pullman? These are the best fantasy books i've ever read and they also have a talking bear too if you're into furries, i mean 😂

Ooohh, now i'm interested in Elizabeth frankenstein! I've always been iching to read a story where the female character is like that in a story. More, historically accurate, I suppose? There've been a lot of stories that I've read where internally, I went, "I don't think this is accurate in 18th/19th century thinking, because this female is almost too...modern feminist. She can't survive in this society, 21st, yeah, but 19th? Nah". Also, i'm a sucker for character studies!! Also glad to hear that this is an audio book >o< I missed hearing stories, and now that I'm going to have a 30 minute commute *finger guns* I now know what to do UwU

That Beauty book sounds really interesting. It kinda reminds me of how the Japanese really value the concept and culture of kawaii- like how a lot of really frilly and cute things in Japan are simply just cute to the point that they're frivolous and maybe even inconvenient, BUT HONESTLY IF SOMETHING MAKES YOU HAPPY THEN I THINK THAT OBJECT HAS A PURPOSE AFTER ALL :((

thank you for the book recs!! and haaaa i love how well-spoken and eloquent you are. i dont know what kind of books i prefer bc when i write i love plot stuff, fluff, etc. but my fav things to read and write are dialogues and emotional descriptions so i think the last book you talked about would be for me (character driven). i love especially the fact that it explores less "pretty" sides of the female MC because i know some people hate on female MCs whenever theyre being cunning or angry or basically anything other than placating and nurturing, so a female MC who knows what she has to do to survive is so my shit. also that quote you read about the victor guy was so chilling. i can see how much i've grown bc when i was a teen i'd have found this romantic probably lol also you're super pretty and smart and funny as usual, i love your videos!!!!

Oh my god. I need to read that one about Elizabeth Frankenstein, that sounds amazing. Fun fact: there are actually a lot of slightly different versions of Frankenstein, and in most of them Elizabeth appears as his fiance, but in some of them she is also his cousin.

In the original she’s his cousin and later fiancé. Ive read it rather recently for high school and if I’m not misremembering I believe it was his father who pressed their marriage. Victor agreed happily though and Elizabeth seemed happy too.

I’m so happy to see a book about Elizabeth Frankenstein because I always thought she (aside from the monster) had the saddest fate. Elizabeth barely plays a part in the book because it’s about victor playing God and messing everything up like the college dropout dumbass he is, but I always felt so bad for her, her life was turning so bad up until she died and she still tried to be happy with victor when they married (and because of his idiocy she dies) I remember reading the book and wishing she and the monster became friends

I absolutely loved Dark Descent! Definitely one of my favorite books of last year. But I absolutely agree that the end went by much, much faster than the beginning. It's a very short book, so she definitely could have added some more depth to everything that's thrown at us in the end. Also hard same on audiobooks being a means of getting books read when depression starts kicking your ass. I pretty much only listen to audiobooks either in the car on long drives or when I can't manage to do literally anything else. I just love that kinda false sense that I actually accomplished something.

I actually read Frankenstein a few years ago, and it was a really solid read. But it never sat well with me that Elizabeth was just given to Victor like a consolation prize. And also she dies cause he was stupid and made life when he shouldn’t have if I remember correctly. I always wondered what the book would have been like if it was from Elizabeth’s perspective, so I’ll definitely be checking that book out.

I agree completely about Jacobson's essays, love Broad City so much, and really enjoyed the essays, but I wasn't sure how it could really reach a general audience beyond fans of the show. Do you remember that part about her going to her boss's house to fix his dvd player or something right after she tries to quit her job?? Amazing. I think you'll like My Year of Rest and Relaxation, I personally thought the story was a satire on how we appropriate mental health in the States by evolving into things like the concept of a "mental health day" that the narrator infinitely partakes in as enough of an initiative to quietly ignore the deeper problems of how we give narrative to mental health overall without really trying to fix anything lol. ANYWAY, I think you'll like Ottessa Moshfegh overall!

i agree, i don't think the book will reach a wide audience since there's no reason for non-broad city viewers to read it. i definitely see how a lot of her life matches her character on the show, especially with her new love interest in the last season, so it was nice to learn a bit more about the show's creator. i actually finished my year of rest and relaxation last night, coincidentally before 9/11 (totally not planned at all), and i was watching your review of the book this morning! i loved your analysis of the book and your interpretation of it because i was wondering what the point of it was and what the author was trying to achieve. i do wish there was more done with it beyond an exaggerated "mental health day" and i feel like the ending was abrupt and had a weird tonal shift. i'll talk more about it in next month's wrapup lol! thanks for commenting :)

i think come in with the expectation to just turn off ur brain and enjoy a book! its v predictable and not SUPER deep but i still liked it

OMG!!! FINALLY I CAN TAKE PART IN THE PAPERCUT BOOK CLUB!! I've been wanting to participate for like forever but usually the books you choose are not ones I have readily at hand, or ones that I haven't already read. But I'm reading Sorcery of Thorns this month (on chapter 2 right now) so catch me screaming like a banshee in absolute GLEE that I can finally stay up late WAAAAY past my bed time to watch the live show! Ggjhgjhgjhgjhg. :D. Gods! I gave A Curse So Dark and Lonely like 2.5 stars cuz I had quite a lot of problems with it but hearing your thoughts has me mentally bumping it up to like 3 stars. So thank you! I can't wait to hear your more indepth review of the book though cuz I HAVE THOUGHTS AND I WANT TO SEE IF YOU CAUGHT SOME OF THEM AS WELL!! BECAUSE OH BOY!!!! Thank you!!! That book could have been 350 PAGES!!!! I felt it was dragged for way too long as well!!! Goddamn. I can sooo feel Jordan's heartbreak with you not liking Goose Girl. Rofl!!! But I totally get what you mean about early YA and the fact that it sometimes reads pretty basic. Wow. The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein sounds like my kinda jam! Because GODDAMN!!! I want NEED this book in my life!!!

I loved The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein for all the same reasons. I listened to Teen Creeps podcast dissection of it as a followup and their comparison between it and the original story was illuminating.

You have definitely convinced me to finally read Sorcery of Thorns and The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. I'm reading Frankenstein this month for my Literary Theory class so it'll be interesting to follow it up with Elizabeth! Also Gray from A Curse So Dark and Lonely deserves better in the second book or I'm going to be LIVID.

So glad you loved The Dark Descent of Elizabeth Frankenstein. It was oneof my highly anticipated book releases last year and I really enjoyed it. I completely agree with your review. Its definitely a character study book. Im glad you were able to read a book that you could really sink your claws into. Also audiobooks are a lifesaver. I otherwise cant get through books. I listen when I drive or commuting and also when doing chores. It definitely helps when there are pacing/boring parts. You should read Now I Rise asapp since youve read And I Darken. ✌
