Hey we have some exciting news! We are partnering up with MEP Guy to launch the most effective REVIT courses for MEP designers and engineers! Check out the Electrical course preview and sign up here: www.mepguy.com/electrical As a special bonus, we're offering a free download of an Electrical Clearance family that anyone can use to designate a "no fly" zone or clearance zone that must be maintained in front of electrical equipment. Drop it anywhere you need folks to keep clear of zappy things!

This is great information if a bit antiquated anymore. With energy codes and the need for occupancy sensors, we have gone to power packs with low voltage switches. So much easier to design anymore. The power pack acts as a contactor and the occupancy sensors and low voltage switches within the space act to change the state of the contactor. But back in the day, I had to use the 3-way and 4-way switches and it was a pain trying to follow all the travelers and switch legs through the raceway system. Especially in, say an open office, where you wanted to switch a bunch of 3-lamp (T8 lamps) with dual ballast fixtures. You would have just a gob-load of wiring to deal with. As much of a pain the energy codes can be, designing lighitng systems now are so much easier.

Oh there is so much to unpack for lighting design! Indeed, low voltage controls have simplified (or complicate, depending on your point of view) lighting design in the last few years. You have your auto on to 50% in some cases, manual on auto off if you want 100%, dimming emergency fixtures with switch bypass, you got daylight harvesting with photocells and even 100/50/20% dimming for some areas that can’t go dark. Oh and don’t forget switched receptacles if room is unoccupied. Gotta tie that into lighting occupancy sensors too. All good topics to cover one day!

@@theelectricaldepartment I've gotten a taste of some of that. My primary focus is on industrial lately, so i'm sure my commercial chops aren't what they used to be. Anymore, I probably only spec the same 10 light fixtures on almost every job. I also don't live in one of the more complicated jurisdictions like California (ie: title 24). But, its a good video...and fundementals are nice since it doesn't seem like many younger designers get the same training I did due to a lot of automation built into systems.

How can you draw this in actual diagram? Wiring Like the actual set lets say you have a 2bulb and its is controlled in 3 different locations what is it look like in a actual wiring diagram
