We all love quilt panels. They're gorgeous and can either be used all as one piece in the center of the quilt, or cut up to showcase your favorite parts.
In today's video I give you three examples of how my daughter and I have used panels in quilts to give you some ideas on how to bring your favorites to life.
No matter which method you choose, you'll have a quilt top together in no time, since you can use the panel to take up some significant quilt real estate!

Thank you for the information I have a whole bunch of them I’ve yet to use. It was neat to see your daughter showing the quilt you’ll have memories of working with her on the quilt❤

I’m new to your channel. This was an incredibly helpful video and I appreciate all the tips! RE: Your quilt with the messed up quilting? Don’t pick it out. Just finish it and wash it. Then all those crinkles will hide the mistakes and as long as you don’t point them out to ppl, no one will ever notice. Picking out quilting stitches, especially tiny ones, is next to impossible and you will never want to do it! Might as well enjoy the quilt and be happy with the progress you have made since then. 🌷💚

Thanks for the great information on using up some different types of panels. I'm sure I am not the only person who loves them and stores them instead of using these beautiful fabrics.

Stephanie that red quilt is beautiful! So what the feathers aren’t perfect! I think you should finish it, don’t pick the stitches out just finish it! It will be a reminder of where you started and where you are in your quilting journey! It is a great testimony of improvement and I love it!

thanks so much for this tutorial. I agree with other voices: the panel with your struggles for feathers, is beautiful, just finish the binding, and donate it, or take it to womens shelter, salvation army, etc. unless you had pointed it out, I would not have know the feathers were bad or overlapped, and it still looks good--I could not tell. Love all your teaching videos, by the way.

What about when there is one bigger panel and 2 smaller. (Might be used for pillow - but you don't want to make into pillows) Ps- give yourself grace on those feathers. You wouldn't be good now if you weren't bad before. How many times did your children fall down when they were learning to walk?? Throw a binding on it and donate to a charity. Someone will love those snowmen.

You need to send that red and white to our quilting group we have professional unpickers even those tiny stitches. One lady made a tie quilt with out any help, it was a real disaster so, I told her to unpick it all and rework it using a stabiliser and when finish the second time was a beautiful quilt, we all still tell the story, don't think anyone else has had to totally unpick a whole quilt since, everyone is very comfortable in seeking help and helping with unpicking where needed. Thank you for your ideas for panels.❤

Love your video. Making it up as you go along… keeping your math in mind. Gal to know I am not the only one with ‘secret panels’

My thought is to trim off the border add a new one quilt it and be finished. I see other comments that are great too. Loved the video because I've made several quilts with panels. The math for making the panels and blocks fit together really makes them beautiful .

Thanks, I picked up some panel blocks on an outing and didn't even think to ask for the coordinating fabric. I just spent some time looking and found it's Dan Morris fabric. I can't wait to do this now

Great teaching video on panels. Just my old person opinion is for you to get that red quilt out of storage and USE IT. Life is not about perfection, it's about experiences, love, messes, family etc. Enjoy that beautiful quilt, flaws and all. ❤

you can also buy 6 or 7 panels and make a OBW ( one block wonder ) ( 6 panels req. ) with or without an inserted panel ( the 7th )

I often find that panels are not printed accurately. The motifs are crooked and the borders wonky. Many times I lose parts of the block getting it square. Love your idea of asymmetrical borders to achieve the measurements. On the quilting, I've learned echoing is your friend....don't unpick, exaggerate.

I had a thought on your Christmas quilt - why don’t you cut out that border to the point where you can just put on the binding and call it done without that white border. That way you can use it and not see the feathers. It reminded me of of a couple of my attempts to try something new. I now will sort of trace it out, and then I’ll make a little practice sandwich and practice before i put it in a quilt. Does it work all the time? Nope. I just go for it…lol.

You will never learn to do a quilting pattern well if you don't just keep doing it until you get good. In the end, nobody looks that closely at the quilting (well, we sewists might). People look at the design of the fabric. I give you tons of credit for attempting the FM feathers. Just keep practicing.

Finish the quilt. If it was for yourself and you absolutely cannot get past the 'mistakes' offer it to someone who would love it. No need to point out what you do not like about it. I can send you my address if you can't find anyone who would like this😀😀.

I must be really stupid as I didn’t understand anything once you started to talk measurements 🫣 I am going to watch it again and again until I “get” the maths!
