Toro Timemaster 30" Lawn Mower Review - There is a lot of hype on this mower and I wanted to see if the positive reviews were real & could this lawn mower mow and mulch as good as they say and really REDUCE MOWING TIME?
This mower has the optional side discharge option included. Sadly a camera problem prevented me from showing you this but side discharge is included as well.
Check me out on Instagram for great photos & project updates

Lightweight is good and what did I use it for it’s a lawnmower ru-vid.comUgkxTPN04aT-Qdjr_KS3ql7ng8wnU3wwsCqk also recommend Yes it is lightweight so hence not as robust as our old one. But if you take care it does the job really well.

@@joola27 absolutely, it’s still going strong! I’ve not had any problems with it, starts good. The pace setting function is great. My only complaint with it really is that the gas tank is too small. If I fill it completely, I can just barely mow my front and back yard without running out of gas. I don’t have that big of a yard, maybe 40 minutes. But other than that it’s been a great mower.

I have one and love it. I bought an old 190cc model with a worn out engine. Repowered the mower with a Kohler CV224 and it’s a beast now. Removed the front blade baffle and I run high lift Oregon G5’s with the chute open. Throws grass 10-15 feet and the engine just eats. Getting my lawn ready for winter and mowing around 2”. One pass discharging and one pass mulching and it looks great. Some blowout from under the deck but the mulches d grass is so fine a quick pass with the blower takes care of it. If someone is considering a Timemaster I highly suggest buying an old one on the cheap and doing the Kohler swap. With the spare money get a bunch of extra parts to have on hand. I have spare belts, blades, cables, spindle bearings, and pulleys and all in I’m $1300 including the cost of the mower, new engine, and parts. Love this thing.

One addition I’d like to add: if you use the provided shoot for side discharge, I’ve seen the grass clippings gather in a spots. But if you use a string to keep the side eject port open, the clippings fly further and spread out nicely

I used this thing for about two years in a company whenever we did yards where the bigger mowers didn’t fit in the back yard and I can honestly say this may not be the best option for anyone who plans to use it more than 3 days a week. Over time it began to have more and more problems and eventually it was replaced.

I've had mine 2 years now and love it! I have about a 10,000 sq ft lawn and it saves me 30-45 minutes over my old 21" mower. I learned about this Toro from The Lawn Care Nut and Ryan Knorr's channels. It's a bit pricey but well under the cheapest riding mower, and cheaper than having a landscaper do the mowing for you. It is kind of heavy but not that hard to maneuver. It would be nice to have a larger gas tank as my yard is just a bit too big to mow in one tank, but I usually double cut so have to refill it anyway. The cut quality is top notch, my yard looks like a green carpet!

I have a 2012 model with the 8.5 HP Briggs. It was a delight to use when it was new. I can't say much for its reliability. I have had some kind of issue every year that I have owned it, causing me at least 2 weeks of downtime each year. Hydrolocking, broken plastic, cables, springs, belts, pukleys, a gas cap that won't stay closed, and even though I regularly change the oil, the piston rings are obviously worn. I have heard that Toro fixed many of the issues, and I'm sure the 10 HP engine helps.

SC! I have desperately wanted this mower since you first reviewed it. Purchasing one brand new was cost-prohibitive for me, so I got mine as a "customer return" to our store and only paid about 1/3rd of the original price. I found out quickly that in tall, wet and thick grass, even with the discharge flap tied open, the deck belt failed. The replacement belt wasn't very expensive and replacing it was pretty easy. Because it was a customer return, it didn't come with a bagger and I want a striping kit to use, but overall, I have been VERY HAPPY to be the proud owner of the biggest, baddest GAS-POWERED lawnmower in my neighborhood! Since I live in a neighborhood of townhouses, I'm basicly bringing a Howitzer to a BB-gun fight, but for the larger yards I mow in my side-hustle, the Timemaster has made a WORLD of difference, allowing me the time to pick up a couple extra jobs and increase my income. Although you are right about the fuel tank, it's small size gives a mower this size VERY SHORT legs.

Good review, we use these commercially over the turfmaster mainly because the turfmaster hdx is so slow and the weight is a crew killer, they hold up well for 2 years mowing on average 15-20 yards a day. Over extended use the mower will pull left, but that being said the value and weight to cutting width ratio is the biggest plus. The biggest negative has to be the gas tank. We continue to buy these over the turfmasters.

I’ve had my Timemaster for two seasons and am very happy with it. The only minus is that it’s heavy and a bit hard to maneuver. Also, changing the oil is cumbersome. Unlike most mowers, there is no oil drain plug inside the deck. To solve that I bought a $20 siphoning oil change pump from Amazon. The height is also very easy to adjust since there are only two adjustment levers, one for the front wheels and the other for the rear wheels. Cleaning is made easy with a hose attachment that snaps onto the wash port on top of the deck. Just lower the deck to it’s lowest setting and with the water turned on and engine running, run the blades for a minute or so until the water exiting the deck is no longer green.

I love my TimeMaster mower. I would recommend one thing that will save your belt and your cable that engages the belt system. Remove the plastic cover that covers the belt and pulleys. It’s very easy to do, and clean out the grass clippings. Clippings can get caked up in there and harden over time which can cause problems with your belt,pulleys and engagement cable. I clean mine out at the end of each mowing season and I mow about 8 times a month for about 6 months.

Have one and LOVE it, I have no complaints about it’s cutting performance in any mode (including side discharge mode which you didn’t mention). It is a bit heavy and cumbersome but that’s a small trade off compared to its benefits. I also think a lot of people don’t understand how to use TORO’s great Personal Pace system, they don’t understand that you hold the handle and simply walk with it (as you said). Many users seem to think you’re supposed to push down on the handle to engage it which is wrong and will result in the machine doing wheelies and trying to run away from you.

I’m in the market for upgrading my mower. I:m considering this one, but what is holding me back from dropping a cool grand on a walk behind lawn mower, is I:ve seen several reviews about how it is not good in hilly terrian. Did you notice it being much different than a regular 21 inch mower? The reason for this feedback is the increased weight, the transmission is to weak to pull it up the hill, even with the personal pace. This is just about the perfect solution for me, but I:m going to wait another year before upgrading to see if toro will make this in battery form, if so, it probably wins. Although there is always the allure of a riding mower. At a half acre of grass, and 3,000 soft of garden beds... its a tough choice. Be nice to not wheel barrel around all that mulch etc.

I have owned mine for 2 years. Not one issue. Mine is electric start. I do not have an issue with fuel capacity, personal pace or blade engagement. The beauty of the 31" cut is that this mower goes through residential gates with little to no problem. Whether mulching or bagging it has plenty of power even when grass is damp with dew. I have only used the side discharge once on really tall grass, it worked well. I also have a Honda HRX-VYA which is a fantastic 21" cut for small yards. I prefer the personal pace feature better then the select drive but 200cc with the blade system really does a fine job. I am not a commercial pro. I do my daughter's yard, mine and a couple others on the side. This may sound odd to some folks and I'm sure the pro's may have comments, But I really like the fact that the Toro's cut height is on the ,25 and .75 of the inch instead of ,50 and 1. In other words with the Toro I usually cut at 3.25 or 2.75 instead of the Honda 3 or 2.5. It seems that that extra .25 at 3.25 makes the grass fuller and holds up better in this Texas heat.

Great Review. I have had my Toro Timemaster for just over 1 year. This mower is a master at striping a Lawn. We have St. Augustine Grass and fertilize it well w/ Scott's Bonus S 3-4 times a year. We have received many compliments on our Lawn. I have a half acre to cut and was cutting it previously well for 15 years w/ a Honda HRX 21 in. I bought this Toro Timemaster to save on cutting time, it does that well. One slight drawback with the Toro Timemaster is that it is borderline heavy. The Toro Timemaster is over 140lbs, while my Honda is less than 90lbs. I am in my 60s and use this yard work as exercise. If you have a flat lawn, you might not notice this much, there are very few spots in my lawn that are flat. We live at the base of the Texas hill country. Plus I bought a Model home that has a lot of plant beds and gardens. So being able to cut around tight corners is critical. This mower does this well, let the mower's engine do the work. I like mowers that can stripe well, both of these mower do a fantastic job at that. Would I buy it again, you bet!!!

It’s my belief that majority of the bad reviews come from people who call themselves Lawn Care Professionals... They buy an expensive homeowner lawn mower like the Timemaster, and then they go cut with it commercially and beat the thing into the ground... They try to squeak by and pay $1000 for a mower, when they should be spending much more for a commercial mower... Anything with plastic parts should not be used commercially!!! The Timemaster is an incredible mower for a homeowner/weekend warrior!!!

I bought one when they first came out. Not a trouble free experience. I replaced one of the spindle assemblies about three years ago. I replaced the transmission two years ago. There’s a throttle governor spring that was destroyed by a spruce tree branch so I had to replace it. It does a good job mowing and doesn’t leave those big fat turf tire tracks that zero turns do. Plus it cuts mowing time by 30% over a 21 inch mower. If it blows up tomorrow I would buy another without hesitation.

Have had one for two seasons now.Moved up from a 21" Toro.Riding mower takes up too much room in my shed and I don"t mind walking behind a self propelled.Saves me alot of time on my yard from the 21". Excellent mulching even of fall leaves as compared to my old 21" which I always thought did a good job,this one allows me to keep mulching down leaves farher into the fall season,I think this is due to the twin blade system.Eventually leaf cover becomes great enogh that I have to use my blower and leaf VAC.The deck height adjustment is awesome.I have always engaged the blade slowly so never had the stalling problem.Maneuverability is adequate.I always did think the gas tank was small but since I am moving through the yard quicker than with my 21 I am able to be done beore emptying the tank.Overall I would say I wish I had a few more thumbs on my hands to give this great mower.

We have this same mower purchased 2 years ago and I can't agree more that this mower is amazing for commercial use and is great for mulching and also can side discharge or bag which all leave a great cut. The 2 blade setup allows the mower to handle long grass which we use everytime for new sods first mow of its life before we put a Scag or Walker on it.... we used cub cadet before and this mower blows it away. I will agree that the gas tank is a bit too small other then that it's amazing....

Wonderfully thorough review, though I will take issue with a couple things. 1.) very uncomfortable seeing you reaching low on the mower while it's still running (around the 17-minute mark). And two, I wish you had commented a bit on some of the individual parts. Though the mower seems like a great deal for the price, a lot of parts (pulley, etc.) seem like really cheap plastic, and my guess is they'll need replacing often. What is the carriage made of? But overall, great review. Thank you.

three years ago i bought a lightly used one, a 2013 year model with the smaller engine. my yard is about 10k square feet and i mow it about 30-40 times a year only bagging at the beginning and end of the season. all the rest is mulching with the height set on A (the highest) and the only time i have problems is in the spring when the grass is very" rain drunk" and juicy, it will occasionally leave track of grass where the wheels run...not a big deal really. only other thing that i have had to do is replace both control cables and the drive belt...but all normal wear and tear, plenty of videos on those jobs on youtube...

I own 2 of these. 1 is electric start and the other is exactly the same as yours. Electric start is nice for the wife and kids but not really needed for men. We use them in my lawn care business for small lawns. I actually prefer using them on my own lawn even though I have Exmark zero turn mowers. I have the stripe kit for mine and love the clean strips it produces. I side discharge except in fall when leaves start dropping. I have a fescue/bluegrass mix and live in northern Michigan.

Silver, I love your channel and watch all of your videos. But honestly, you got this one wrong. I bought this mower (electric start) in April and overall am disappointed with it. Since I have followed all of yours tips on lawn care maybe my lawn is too thick and lush. This mower is very underpowered! I often times have to mow my front yard twice which is a waste of time. This mower leaves a lot of “loud and proud” blades meaning it misses a lot of blades. I sharpen my blades regularly and have brought it back to the authorized local retailer I bought it from. I do like the 30” cut. I hope you continue to use the mower and do a follow up with more feedback. I would rate the mower a 5/10 stars. If someone else made a highly rated 30” cut I would buy it. Again, love your videos but this one is wrong. Take it from a lawn nut like me who has owned this mower for 6 months.

I have had this mower for 3 yrs now and have had no problems with it what so ever, I even adjusted the power drive to go faster so it pulls me when I’m going up hill instead of me pushing it. I think the next one I’m going to get is the best size bigger then this the 32”. I use this commercially mowing 6 yards in the neighborhood maybe more soon but all within walking distance of my home. Also I’m old 58 in July so don’t think I can’t push this up hills which do when going to 2 homes I could start it & use the power drive but why?? Also I get 2 homes mowed on 1 tank of fuel both front & back yards it just depends how fast you have the drive going.

I would have mentioned the side discharge option also. Makes for a super clean mowing if passing over sidewalks, driveway etc and grass is slightly wet. The side discharge also acts a blower to blow clippings from driveway back onto the grass when you’re done. 😃

I have a 2021, new this summer: So far I like it, but only just. PROS: 1) Does cut nicely 2) With the side chute bungeed open, it really launches the grass clippings (Normal chute sucks though) 3) The "personal pace" thing is super easy to get used to. 4) It can move at a decent pace 5) Seems to have enough power to get up hills and cut *normal* tall grass. CONS: 1) The tank is TINY! Keep a can nearby. 2) My drive didn't work. I had to adjust the cable, was easy, like a bicycle brake cable. But still, odd right out of the box. 3) It doesn't mulch well for me, but I've never had a mower that has. Mulching in my area is only for dry/mid summer. 4) It doesn't stripe very well. I'm going to try the $200 roller that's available for it. 5) There's no throttle control. It's either full speed, or off. Overall I feel it's ok, but I feel like for $1,200 there should more to it. I'd really love throttle control so I can let it idle while I'm picking things up.

How to cut down time? Hire a team to do it for you. I have three guys cutting my 2 acres with trim and blow and they are done in 30 min. Then they move a few hundred feet down the street to the next home, repeat, then the next house down the street. I only pay them 50 every 2 weeks so to me it's worth the 3 hours we all would spend on it. If you are wondering, it's the Gold Coast section of CT.

I have had many issues with my 2016 Toro 30 in TimeMaster. It NEVER starts hot. There was a recall to change the crummy paper fuel filter, but i solved that design flaw, where the fuel feed is only 1/2 in drop from the tank outlet to Briggs 120000 series engine carb. I lashed on my Honda GCV190 Tank and a nice long hose, with a Disc filter and Shutoff valve from Home Depot. The Briggs recall is to install a metal HEAT SHIELD between the cyl head and float bowl, to fix hot restarting. I often do better than that, just get some silver foil faced R-MAX foam insulation, maybe cut 3x5in,, smash a recess to fit behind the float bowl with a small hammer, and shove it in place above the black plastic belt guard cover. surfaces, that worked for a few years,then needed to cool things down with Starting fluid or Gumout to restart hot. I then replaced the carbs several times with the inexpensive ones on Amazon. Worked a little better than Briggs OEM. FINALLY, I did replace the Magneto coil and shutoff switch, but yesterday PROVED THE NEW ONE IS INTERMITTENT. Got an adjustable Spark Tester, set for 10KV gap or larger - NO OUTPUT!!!!!!!!!!! Then I took the old one, sanded the pole pieces and TAPED the entire HV lead with 3M Electrical tape, and split the plastic insulator sleeve from my new Spark Tester, covering the CHAFED section where the muffler heatshield abradedi it. BINGO, it finally started! I then checked the Compression cold, but forgot to open the throttle plate - it read almost 30lbs. We also replaced the crummy HEAD GASKET again, with the 2nd gasket in the $42 Amazon kit, which HAS A NICE METAL fire ring, but is for the 223CC Upgraded engine all the Yard Service guys pay $500 new, to finally fix the underpowered temperamental 190. I found the old gasket BLEW OUT near the Exhaust side, a second time, vapor from all my Starting Fluid was coming out. Another telltale sign was the 4 head bolts were NOT TIGHT. I should have retourqued to the 125 in-lbs spec AGAIN after a month. Since 70lbs seems to be the spec for these 190CC motors, I WILL be buying a new Piston, Rings, and Wrist pin set, and the 2 different length Rod bolts to raise the crummy 30lbs that is causing stalling issues. And my friend set the VALVE clearances ay 0.006in, AFTER INSTALLING THE NEW thicker gasket. It starts if I put the choke rod in, but soon I fave to remove it, and flip the choke spring 180 degrees over, to the main governor spring post, r it will bog down too rich! When I get anther $500 saved up, I am going to Toro Menders in ATL to buy a replacement 223CC engine, and a new DECK for another $100. Final note, there is a Hi Lift Blade kit, including a new front V shaped shield that bolts in with the front wheels assy - critically IMPORTANT, IT USED TO just fill the chute with grass. ------------- for the past 8 years it will FILL the bag with even wet grass- My thoughts, nothing else is safe on my sloped back yard, and at 150lbs for me, I can easily handle this 135lb mower. Just skip the $200 more Electric Start option, because it will be clunkier to use there. Just my thoughts after 8 years of Time Master troubles. And I replaced many broken cables, worn bearings, and belts Fyi, Hilary in GA

I've never used a Timemaster but have had my eye on it for quite some time. The cost though around $1,200 or more was always a concern as I've been accustomed to free mowers that I find in the trash that need little work. Anyway 4 years ago I came across a 36" Craftsman ride on lawn tractor for $180 I think is what I paid. It was a GREAT mower in excellent condition for it's age. However I used it for maybe 1 season and then after that I hardly used it at all. The width was perfect for maneuvering in and out of my backyard and the smaller gates. The typical size for a ride on lawn tractor is 42" which wouldn't have fit in my gates which is why I was happy to find the 36" unit, being 6" wider than the Timemaster. But being a lawn tractor it was still too big and bulky to be practical on my ~1/4 acre lot. So it sat relatively unused. Anyway I sold it this year for $750, quite a decent profit for being exactly 20 years old! And instead I'll continue to use my 21" and 22" Toro Personal Pace mowers as I have two in reserve. My yard takes at least 2.5 hours to cut though with a mower of this size not including other tasks like edging, weed wacking, blowing clippings from sidewalks, driveway, and patio, etc. It's decent exercise though so that's a plus! Being a residential lot of approximately 1/4 acre there is just too much obstacles for a lawn tractor to be super handy which is one of the downfalls, whereas with a push mower you can generally move around obstacles effortlessly without having to make tight turns or back up as with a lawn tractor.

First let me just acknowledge the sacrifice you have made and say thank you. People have no idea what being a vet really means. I mow 29,000 sq ft so the Toro is tempting but i have read a lot of negative comments. The nail in the coffin for the Toro is only front/rear height adjustment. I like to lower one side of my Honda when mowing along the edge of flower beds. If the Toro can't do that I'll stick with my Honda.
@YOUTUBEISRANBYRETARDS
@YOUTUBEISRANBYRETARDS 2 года назад
That's the only drawback is that you cannot change the height adjustment individually on this toro. But it's not that big of deal especially when this product cuts time down. Weed trimming can fix that issue or use your Honda mower to finish off around areas that otherwise the Time Master can't cut.
